Meanwhile, on the cold, cold Hot Stove . . .

It’s Hot Stove Season baby! You know what that means! Yep: time to watch some teams sign a few relievers to minor league deals and then wait everyone out until February while talking about the need to maintain financial flexibility! FEEL THE BURN.

In more specific news:

John Morosi of MLB Network reports that, based on his conversations with front office folks, either Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor or Kris Bryant are expected to be traded this winter.

We’ve talked a lot about Betts this winter already, and that seems like madness. Bryant’s career with the Cubs began with business-side acrimony, it’s still simmering, and there is no sense that either side is amenable to a long-term deal before he hits free agency. The Indians have been signaling for some time that they have no interest in keeping Lindor long term.

Open thread, for any thoughts concerning transactions.

1. I don't see how Bryant can be traded until his grievance is ruled on. I suspect we all agree it's very unlikely he'd be declared an FA a year early but it seems like the sort of thing another team needs guaranteed before trading for him.

2. I can understand Cleveland has no interest in paying Lindor anything like what he's worth but no interest in keeping him long-term? Madness.

I wonder if any owner will say \"#### it" and make an instant superteam by collecting these guys like Betts and Lindor that apparently nobody wants to pay.

The way this unfortunate scentence is written, it seems that only one of Betts, Bryant, and Lindor needs to be traded. So if the Cubs move Bryant, it means that Boston/Cleveland won't have to trade away Betts/Lindor.

I don't get this recent expectation that the offseason is supposed to entertain us with fireworks and turmoil. It's like there's some collective revisionism that past offseasons were a rollicking good time for fans, but have recently turned boring.

The Reds have a bunch of money to spend and seem keen on giving up future pieces for the present... Somehow trade for those 2 guys, sign Grandal...

Betts CF
Votto 1b
Eugenio 3b
Lindor SS
Grandal C
Winker LF
Senzel 2b
Aquino RF

That would be sweet

Owners have successfully convinced us that being good just isn't worth spending the money and payroll as a percentage of revenue has dropped.
