The Mets acquired Raley from the Rays on Wednesday in exchange for minor-league pitcher Keyshawn Askew, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Aside from All-Star closer Edwin Diaz, the Mets were lacking in reliable setup options last season, and the team’s relief depth became further tested earlier this winter when all of Seth Lugo, Trevor May, Joely Rodriguez and Adam Ottavino became free agents. The addition of Raley thus addresses a major need, as he’ll give the Mets a proven left-handed arm to slot in front of Diaz in the late innings. Raley covered 53.2 frames for Tampa Bay in 2022, collecting one win, six saves and 22 holds while pitching to a 2.68 ERA and 0.97 WHIP.

That's gonna go over Real Well in NYC!
This is America! I don't have to wear anything I don't wanna wear!
Mets also add David Robertson, 1 year, 10 million. Doesn’t seem like they’re sparing much expense here.
That's a really low AAV. They're paying for what, 16-18 WAR? For a guy with a 130+ wRC+. Even if he averages 400 PA per season over the contract, that seems very doable.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy here and don’t really think it’s unreasonable given the market. If he had a better track record with health, his AAV would be greater than 25 million. It’s just somewhat amazing to me that a guy entering his 30s, whose posted a WAR greater than 4 twice, is now worth 162 million.
We;;, for an injury risk, wouldn't you rather have more years and lower AAV. If a guy is on a short deal, and misses 2/3 of a season, the deal is in bad shape. With an 8 year deal, there's more of a chance the health will average out at OK.
