Mets expected to interview Red Sox’s Raquel Ferreira for top front-office opening

Multiple industry sources said that Raquel Ferreira, a Red Sox executive vice president and assistant general manager, will converse with top Mets officials in the coming days, with Boston’s blessing. Whether that conversation qualifies as an “interview” could be in the eye of the beholder. It’s believed that the talk will be more of a “Get to know you” session, in which both sides will determine whether they want to take this idea any further.

Ferreira, a Red Sox employee since 1999 and a Rhode Island native, is not a slam dunk to take the job if the Mets offered it to her, multiple sources said. She holds a substantive enough role with the Red Sox that when they fired their president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski in September 2019, Ferreira became part of a four-person group (which ironically also featured Zack Scott, whom the Mets just dismissed as their acting general manager) to run the club on an interim basis until the eventual hiring of Chaim Bloom. Ferreira has a hand in all areas of Boston’s baseball operations.

When Bloom came aboard, the Red Sox elevated Ferreira to an assistant GM position, making her the fourth woman to hold that title in baseball’s history. Since then, one of those four, Kim Ng (an assistant GM with the Yankees and Dodgers), became a trailblazer when the Marlins hired her as the first female general manager in any North American professional men’s sport. Appointing a woman to such a powerful position would carry additional weight for the Mets, who repeatedly drew heat over the past year regarding misbehaving male employees.

Mets plan to interview the security guard at #1 World Trade Center but he’s already said he loves his job and isn’t likely to move.

Can she hold her liquor? That’s a big issue for the Mets.

I am still available ... and likely would be no worse a PBO than Alfonso Soriano.

Nobody wants to work for the Mets. It's the 1972 Democratic VP nomination of baseball jobs.

Sargent Shriver had quite a good thing going before he was nominated.

You forgot Walt on interested in the job.

I heard that the Sydney Blue Sox denied permission.

I heard that Walt was under consideration, but it is taking the Mets quite a while to read through his BBTF posts. They are reportedly divided on whether they need to review the PETCO thread, or even whether BBTF participation is itself disqualifying. There is also some concern about the length of future staff meetings if he were to be selected. Still, his reported interest has apparently scared off much of the competition.

Is that right?
There are a number of front office candidates that the Mets were denied permission to interview, or reportedly backed off seeking permission to interview. Brewers VP of Baseball Operations Matt Kleine, Rays VP of Player Development Carlos Rodriguez & the Blue Jays President Mark Shapiro were reported to be in that category. The Mets were also reported to have been interested Dodgers Sr. VP of Baseball Operations Josh Byrnes, but not seeing a recent mention. Also, shouldn’t Dodgers GM Assistant GM Jeff Kingston be in the declined group, or was the earlier reporting wrong? MLB Trade Rumors has a lot of names dropped among the Mets rumors.

Shriver, by all accounts, had a good time energetically running for Vice President in what he knew to be a lost cause. I doubt whoever the Mets choose will be as fortunate.

Sorry, France denied Sargent Shriver the opportunity to interview for the position.

Walt, what did you tell them your 12 month plan was ? What would you do ?

At this rate, the Mets should jump on a commentator of Walt's stature. We're a couple of weeks away from Bearded Wizard and Mike Piazza.

tina is probably now at an age where she too could be considered for the role. First move: hire John Farrell. Second move: peace and chicken grease.

Who was the one who said, "im billy beane #####\"? They should hire that person.
