Mets trade targets: Five realistic players the banged-up NL East contenders could acquire

We covered why the surging Rays might become active traders last Friday, just hours before they shipped shortstop Willy Adames to the Brewers. It’s possible that Tampa Bay isn’t done yet, either, as a deal involving either Mike Brosseau or Kevin Padlo would make sense as a method for clearing a roster spot and playing time. For our purposes, we’re highlighting Brosseau. He’s off to a rough start (a 65 OPS+ in his first 108 plate appearances), but his exit velocity is in line with last season and despite a bloated strikeout rate he’s actually making contact more frequently this season (about eight fewer whiffs per 100 swings). Brosseau’s defensive versatility and cost certainty would make him an appealing long-term fit for the Mets.

What about Randall Grichuk? Would Mets' fans give up much for him?

I'd give up something for Grichuk on a rest-of-season loan, but want no part of the future years.

While I still don't understand why the Jays extended Grichuk when they did, I have to say I have warmed up to him over the last couple of seasons, particularly since Lourdes has yet to find any consistency.

Edit - Everytime I talk baseball with my 81 year-old father, he is sure to mention that Randal is a "hell of a ballplayer", so there's that too . . .

He was drafted ahead of Mike Trout

I can't believe they don't have someone in the minors that could match the production of any of those guys.

#5 I think they currently have 17 players on the DL. Their equivalent guys in the minors are probably starting in the majors now.

Too bad they didn't sign superstar Rob Refsnyder like the Twins did. I jest, but Jake Cave looks pretty expendable right now.

Their AAA CF is already hurt himself. They also have Brandon Drury and Jose Peraza on the team already.

We had a similar conversation when the Dodgers picked up Pujols where the Dodgers had already promoted their top 5-6 AAA players, a couple of whom had already gotten hurt. Of course the Dodgers had the advantage that all the healthy players had 130 OPS+'s.

So there is still a chance Pujols ends his career with the Mets
