Mid (To Late) 70’s Baseball Dudes

Radio City Matinee just had to go and give Jon Gnagy’s Beard a show.

image

As a kid I was into reading biographies of athletes that were before my time. I was too young to have seen them play, but pictures of giant fro’s and mangy beards caused me to build them up in my head as awesome, wild legends.

Mid (To Late) 70’s Baseball Dudes is an ongoing drawing project. It’ll probably be complete once I have enough to make a cool zine or when I can’t think of anymore dudes to draw.

Thanks to Peter Schilling.

May I suggest Dave Kingman and Reggie Jackson?
Jeff Leonard was a rookie in 1979 and Willie Mays retired in 1973, so I understand there is artistic license in the term "mid to late '70's"

I dunno if it's the colour schemes or the eyes, but these totally remind me of this creepy (but excellent) music video.

Elliot Maddux had a big fro too IIRC. Al Hrabsowsky and Mike Marshall also had big mustaches.

Dennis Leonard of KC had some decent facial hair

This is pretty awesome despite the lack of Warren Brusstar, Randy Lerch, Garry Maddox, or Bake McBride. No Phillies at all!

"Davey Lopes" is spelled wrong.

Didnt Luis Tiant have a fu manchu? I guess so did Marshall and Hrabowsky.
