Mike Rizzo wins Executive of the Year award, might be having the best five weeks ever

Nationals’ president of baseball operations and general manager Mike Rizzo was named Baseball America’s Executive of the Year on Tuesday, an exceptional accomplishment. It was the 57-year-old’s first time winning the award.

But compared to the past five weeks, this accomplishment seems to take a back seat.

Over the past month and some change, Rizzo’s Nationals won the World Series, had a championship parade and visited the White House just days after. Following the World Series, Rizzo got married in Jamaica.

When he spoke with reporters prior to the unveiling of the Nationals’ World Series documentary on Tuesday, he said: “I’ve been drunk for about a month.”

So, who’s been having the five worse weeks of their life lately?

So, who’s been having the five worst weeks of their life lately?

I'm gonna go with Brandon Taubman & Co.

Wonder if they're still so ####### glad about anything they did.

So this award is obviously voted on after the postseason. Because:

The Nationals were most people's favorite to win the division.

They started off deep in the hole, having to play like their hair was on fire to make the post season.

They actually had to win a play in game to even get to the postseason.

Without taking the postseason, a 3 week crapshoot, into account, don't see how he wins this.

Who and what are you talking about?

Taubman & the Astros. That's my guess, anyway.

#2 follows up on #1. It's a reference to the line that got Brandon Taubman fired from the Astros.

Bang the lid once for yes, twice for no.

Was this hard to follow? Or was it just not everyone remembers what Taubman said?

I'm guessing it must have been the latter, because I immediately got your reference.

OK, I understand, thanks.

I didn't mean to come off unkind, I was genuinely surprised. I figure if anyone remembers Taubman outside of what finance bro hole he crawls into, it'll be for that quote. (Unless he's actually whistleblowing the trashcan stuff alongside Fiers.)

They were?

I thought the general narrative was that the division was going to be a four-way battle with NY/WAS/PHI/ATL.

Funnily enough, I think that would reflect poorly on him, too! Get fired for being an ####### and then immediately sell out your former employer for behavior you were clearly comfortable with?

I mean, I don't think he's a guy with a lot of good qualities. So he'd just be more infamous.

I think that's called, Pulling a Canseco.

#1 and #2 are excellent comments. I suspect the "problem" is that many of us have consigned the Astros #######'s name to the dustbins of our memory since he's not worth the brain cells to remember and we're not likely to encounter his name again. I'll admit, since I don't follow the NFL, I sorta assumed Traubman was a flailing first-round QB pick and that the team had said something about how they were f'ing glad they had drafted him.

Better sober up and re-sign Rendon & Strasburg while there’s still time.

Hey, he didn't win this award by re-signing guys.
