An automated strike zone could be inching closer to becoming a reality in Major League Baseball.
In a recent appearance on MLB Network, commissioner Rob Manfred stated that the technology used for the automated strike zone was due for a large upgrade this winter and that further testing and preparation will take place during the 2020 season.
The goal? Get everyone as comfortable with the system as possible so that the MLB can comfortably implement an automated system when the “time is right.”
Mind you, Manfred being who he is, this could very well mean “never”.....

2-3 years implementation in the minors will be enough for them to make the leap.
We'll probably have NL DH by then too.
The reason I would like to see it is that my theory is that this would be an advantage to both the better hitters and the better pitchers, because they would be able to take advantage of a more consistent strike zone in a way that batters who don’t have a good sense of the strike zone, and pitchers who don’t have the control to put the ball where they want it, could not.
Boy, you want everything, dontcha? Manfred never said anything about the technology being ready for prime time. Curious, that.
