MLB: Rays release veteran Ensberg

All’s Well That Ensberg…problem play for Maddon.

Veteran infielder Morgan Ensberg was released by the Rays on Monday morning.

Ensberg said he was surprised because he thought he would have a spot at Triple-A Durham, but he said he was happy to have had the opportunity with the Rays.

“He had a very nice spring, he’d done a lot of nice things, thought he was playing a lot better,” Rays manager Joe Maddon said. “The problem was that there just wasn’t going to be any room at Triple-A, so we wanted to do that now.”

Maddon called Ensberg “a really classy guy.”

“Spoke really well with him at the end there,” Maddon said. “Just different. Just handles himself really, really well. It would have been nice to be able to keep him, but we just can’t.”

I had the pleasure of profiling Ensberg last year. He's someone to pull for. Hope he lands somewhere.

I was very pleased when the Yankees gave him a job out of ST last year. Unfortunately for Morgan, he just looked 100% cooked.

I would've liked to see him doing 1b/3b/dh hitting for Durham this year. Oh well.
Looks like hes at the end of the road, helped out by that shoulder issue. Too bad.

Nice career for a 9th round senior sign. Hell, nice career. Period.

I thought that he was younger. I guess that's what happens when a guy has his first full season in the NL at the age of 27.

You stay classy, guy.

When he was with the Astros during the 2007 season, the fun fact they used for him was that he used to deliver vegetables when he was a kid. I always thought that was weird for a kid who grew up in Southern California. He's also one of the few players who is Lutheran.

Yankees are the obvious team for him to wind up with now given the A-Rod injury. He can't jump with Cody Ransom, but does just about everything else on the ballfield better.

Or have the Yankees found a stopgap? As far as I know, it's Ransom.

He also has a name that sounds like a stock brokerage, law firm, or financial advisory firm.
