MLB’s 2022 All-Fun Team: Jazz Chisholm, Aaron Judge, José Ramírez among most enjoyable players to watch

Jazz Chisholm, Marlins - If there’s a team captain here, it’s Jazz. He’s taken over the mantle from the mightily struggling Javier Báez. Chisholm checks so many boxes. He’s an extra-base machine of all varieties (seven doubles, four triples, 13 homers). He’s a power-speed combo when you look at just the home runs and steals. He’ll make things happen on the bases other than steals, including how good he is at bunting for a hit. He’ll make exciting defensive plays. He’s always outwardly amped up and his home run trots are something to behold. The different colors in his hair are just a bonus. All hail our captain.

Jose Altuve, Astros - He’s forever negatively branded in many circles of baseball fans. For me, he’s still the 5-foot-6 dude who crushes baseballs and is a joy to watch.

Ozzie Albies, Braves - Same ballpark, but without the negative reactions from the masses. It’s a shame he’s out for a while now. I’ll miss him and I won’t be alone.

Christopher Morel, Cubs - Ever since he homered in his first career at-bat, it’s been evident he’s having the time of his life. In terms of stuffing the stat sheet, he’s similar to Chisholm, too.

if fun = "great players," sure, I guess. But if the list is supposed to be about "fun," and it lacks the Rays' Brett Phillips, it missed the point of the exercise.

There's a link to a spectacular Nolan Arenado defensive play in there. You wouldn't think there'd be much opportunity for a third baseman to be creative defensively, but Nolan often manages to find a way.

That's the closest thing to the Hernandez play I've seen.

So when I was a kid, one of my friends and I (actually, for the BBTF vets here, that friend was Eraser-X) used to find it very funny to go through our baseball cards and do Spoonerisms with the players' names (where you switch the first letters/sounds of the first and last names).

I think Rick Camp was one of the funnier ones at the time. But kids these days - and I'm sure there are many, many kids who sit around doing Spoonerisms with baseball players' names - have Cole Hamels and Jazz Chisholm. Spoiled brats.

Do you still stay in touch with him?

No, haven't seen him since our 20-year high school reunion, which was...ouch. Eight years ago now.

More than a spoonerism, it's Jazz's porn name.

That is a good little game. The 12-year old me would have had a lot of fun with his beloved Blue Jays -- Fony Ternandez, Beorge Gell, Besse Jarfield, et al.

As does F*ck Chinley.
I specifically remember the set being 1986 Topps. Finley's rookie card was in '87.

The 2022 Cubs even suck at this game:

Mistopher Chrorel
Cillson Wontreras
Hian App
Watrick Pisdom (some potential)
Schwank Frindel (still a 1920s player)
Afael Rortega
Hason Jeyward
Hico Noerner
Sandrelton Immons
Gan Yomes
Mick Nadrigal (Man, his spoonerism is less entertaining than his real name)
Seiya Suzuki
Hyle Kendricks
Strarcus Moman
Made Wiley (finally)
Smew Dryly (that sounds uncomfortable)
Bitty Shullpen
Ravid Doss

Bitty Shullpen

It's not a huge stretch to rearrange a letter to two and, for the Cubs, get the appropriate Sh*tty Bullpen.

Just reading along like it's no big deal, and suddenly I'm trying not to laugh so loud that I alarm my co-workers. Nicely done.

Great name for a guy bringing a giant club to the plate to hit massive bombs or strike out trying.

I can't tell you how much this thread has made me smile. I used to do the same thing with my cards.

What's not to love about Brett, right? And I do. But this last time he was mic'd up on ESPN, it was the first time he ever came across to me as having workshopped material and being kinda hammy and forced. Again...love...I just don't want him to jump the shark. I don't want him to be Jay Johnstone, acting like it's his job to provide "antics."
