Moving Image of the Day: RBI Baseball

Today is Nintendo’s 121st birthday (seriously), so to honor this, RBI Baseball commercial. Oh, 1980s commercials…

I played 3 games of RBI last night with a friend (on an real NES, not via emulator). Reggie Jackson went 5-5 with 2HR, a triple, and even stole a base!

I preferred RBI Baseball 2. Corsi and Hneyct were an unbeatable relief tandem and with Hndrsn, Lansfd and Parker in the lineup, that team was unbeatable.

(note: "Lansfd" might have been "Lnsfrd", I don't quite remember)

Parker was the slowest guy in RBI 2...

Who cares if it takes you 60 seconds to circle the bases if you hit a 3-run homer every time up!

How ironic -- celebrating Nintendo's birthday by showing a commercial for an NES cartridge not licensed by Nintendo.

I've got a licensed (gray) version of RBI Baseball somewhere. It's not really a collector's item, but it sure feels pretty cool to own.

I fondly remember the days of my youth, playing RBI / RBI 3 until I got sick of winning by 10 runs after one inning. No wonder I wound up liking APBA so much -- a little bit of realism really makes a difference, even when there are no graphics.

I never owned RBI 2, unfortunately. When I started to become interested in emulation (around 1997 or 1998 -- I remember the release of NESticle 0.43, FWIW), I went straight for the FamiSta series, completely ignoring the U.S. RBIs 2 and 3.

Baseball Stars is the better NES game, though I don't think I've ever seen a TV commercial for it.

Somebody preferring RBI 2 to original RBI Baseball is the most horrific thing I have ever heard. RBI Baseball and Super Tecmo Bowl are NES sports games that have never been surpassed.

This is the case.
