Murray Chass on Baseball: Pitching Is Easier Than Being Traded

The latest subtle non-blogging cheap shots from Murray “I would take Jack Morris over Rickey Henderson on my HOF ballot” Chass.

There is a belief in some baseball circles that DePodesta, former general manager of the Dodgers, has to approve all trades, but Alderson said that isn’t true.

“He helps round out our front office,” Alderson said. “He reports to me in part because he didn’t want to be perceived as an assistant general manager. He works very closely with Kevin. I talk to him from time to time. He doesn’t approve trades. Ultimately I’m the only one who has to approve what Kevin wants to do.”

DePodesta, a Harvard graduate with a degree in economics, was among the first young general managers who were hired for their belief in the statistical analysis method of selecting players. But he lasted only two seasons and now is an assistant whatever you want to call him.

It should come as no surprise that a statistics-oriented guy has a blog. Those pursuits seem to go together these days. But a club executive writing a blog?

But DePo is actually being paid for his writings, even if its not directly related to his responsibilities as a Asst. GM with the Padres. Can Chase say the same with his inane writings?

Rage, rage against the dying of the light, Murray. You have no idea the chuckles you bring to we happy few with your rages.

I usually ignore Chass stuff so I'm probably going somewhere many men have gone before me, but have you read the "About" on that guy's page?

Sorry prick, you have a blog.

I'm convinced that Murray Chass sold the rights to his name to a 4chan troll, who now torments intelligent baseball fans for lulz.

You're not suppose to name the site that must not be named.

Also, if he sold it to a 4chan troll, there would an indiscriminate use of homosexual slurs with every other verb.

It walks like a dog and barks like a dog, eh? He can call it whatever he wants; that doesn't change what it is.

And, like Plachske, M talks about DePo being a Harvard guy but doesn't mention he was a varsity baseball player. Of course the thought of one of those "statistic-oriented guys" could actually throw or hit a baseball would probably make M's head explode.

Good God. That About page is the most bombastic, self-important, indulgent piece of #### I have ever seen. Rickey would be too humble to write that.

Whither go Jake Peavy now?

I'm no English major, but that sure looks like a subject-verb agreement trainwreck.

Jeff K, only Rickey is allowed to begin a sentence with "Rickey" as the first word. The correct sentence would be:

"Jeff K. thinks that Rickey would be too humble to write that."
   11. Jeff K. Posted: December 17, 2008 at 12:52 PM (#3031489)
Actually, I didn't use Rickey's full and proper name, so I'm in the clear. After Rickey saw the success of Ichiro! in 2001 and in the same year, the only one of Rickey's stocks that did not tank was Yahoo!, Rickey decided to "get in on the punctuation Rickey style." He debuted with Rickey(interrobang), but did not like the fact that it made Rickey sound like Rickey was asking Rickey a question every time Rickey spoke. "Rickey doesn't do incredulous interrogatories", Rickey said. Next Rickey tried Rickey(the symbol for Boron), but one of Rickey's Palz and Kidz (Rickey's name for Rickey teammates) said it made it sound like Rickey was boring. Finally, Rickey settled on something. Rickey became RickƩ. Rickey had a particularly good gyro the afternoon Rickey came up with that one. And before you ask Rickey, yes, the copyright symbol is part of the name.

Baseball for the Retarded Fan.

Does Chass really not understand how contracts and baseball work (yes, that's rhetorical)? He hasn't the foggiest clue why teams pay part of the contract they're shedding, if his childlike wonder why the Padres aren't offering to "help" with his $11 million salary is any indication.

Hey now. Do you want Szym to have flashbacks to 6th grade PE?

All it needs in a postscript telling kids to get off his lawn.

Seriously though, that would be a brilliant piece of parody--it's a shame he is being serious.

Best Regards

It's kind of funny (not funny haha) how often that word used to get thrown around. When I was young in the early-mid 80s, that was the creme de la creme of insults, whether or not we knew what it meant. I know I said it before I knew what it meant. I would imagine they don't say such things anymore. I wonder what they call "Smear the Q***r" these days, "Let's Resolve Our Differences And Establish Hierarchies Through Aggressive (But Not Overly So) Play"?

Halfway through my playing career in that sport it was changed to Kill the Pill. I retired in protest.

Lucky for Nieporent that he's not a Diego fan....

"Kill the Pill"?

Who the hell uses the word "pill" to describe a person besides cantankerous old fogeys like Andy?

As they progress through right-wing bogeymen, I think "Bust the Union" is next. That, or "Deport the Brown Guy".

I would totally be into playing a game called "Bust The Union."

Unless it was some sort of Southern Irredentist thing.
