Nathan Eovaldi, Rangers agree to deal

Right-hander Nathan Eovaldi has agreed to a two-year, $34 million contract with the Rangers, pending a physical, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The club has not confirmed the deal, which includes a third-year vesting player option along with performance bonuses.

Would not have minded that deal for the Angels.

Yep, seems like a really reasonable deal at two years. Are the Rangers....good? I'm still pretty dubious.

This seems like the sort of deal the Red Sox *could* have done, were they interested in doing so... so I'm assuming they were *not* interested in doing so...

Although it also may seem to Eovaldi that the Rangers are closer to contention in 2023/2024 than the Red Sox will be.

Guess the Red Sox gonna just hope the kids work out in 2023 at the back end of the rotation (and that Sale actually can, you know, pitch). *Not* spending $ on Eovaldi and Hill in 2023/2024 is a good bit of $ towards the mythical Devers extension, should they choose to spend it. (I don't think they will.)

Nathan, we'll always have G3 of the 2018 WS. Though I was delirious with exhaustion at the end of the game, I was sure I had just witnessed one of the Top 5 guttiest Red Sox pitching performances I had ever watched live--right up there with Pedro in the G5 of the 1999 ALDS and Lowe in G7 of the 2004 ALCS.

Given what RP have been getting, this is a cheap deal for Eovaldi. Boston seriously wasn't willing to give 2 years at 17M each to keep him? How deep is their rebuild going to go? Sale to LAA next, perhaps finally seeing Adell leave LA?

Is there any other Red Sox pitching performance in a loss that comes close to being as beloved as that one?

#5--Probably not, at least in the post-1975 era. Though Wakefield coming in and saving the bullpen for the rest of the series in G3 of the 2004 ALCS probably comes close, as does Pedro in G7 of the 2003 ALCS (the loss there has always been blamed on Grady and not on Pedro, though I'm not sure I'd call it "beloved"). Though I may well be forgetting something.

Funnily enough, I also thought of Game 7 and Embree/Timlin, but they only got 4 outs.
