Nationals’ Stephen Strasburg ejected from stands in social distancing oddity

Stephen Strasburg was forced to do some extra social distancing.

The Washington Nationals pitcher, taking in Thursday’s tilt with the Mets from the empty stands, was ejected by umpire Carlos Torres in the bottom of the third inning.

Upset with a pair of borderline pitch calls from teammate Austin Voth to Mets slugger Pete Alonso, Strasburg let Torres have it from his seat in the 121 section at Citi Field. The umpire, not happy with the feedback, sent the injured righty … elsewhere.

Strasburg was wearing a mask & seated well above the visitors dugout. Rabbit ears?

Derek Holland got ejected from a Pirates - Cardinals game the first weekend of the season in the same manner. He was yelling at the ump while sitting in the stands further down from the dugout. Thus making him one of the few (I assume) players in major league history to get thrown out of a game with a team before appearing his first game for them.

So as it the usual old school insults like "get some glasses" or "your mother drives a pickle wagon" type of thing or something laced with the usual profanities so common in today's crude use of language?

1 - In an empty ballpark I gotta think it’s pretty easy to hear what is being said.

Re 2: It's widely believed that Bill Sharman (later a Basketball Hall of Famer with the Celtics) is the only player ever to be thrown out of a MLB game without actually appearing in one. Actually, that isn't the case (per Wiki):

From 1950 to 1955 Sharman played professional baseball in the Brooklyn Dodgers minor league system. He was called up to the Dodgers late in the 1951 season but did not appear in a game. He was part of a September 27 game in which the entire Brooklyn bench was cleared from the dugout for arguing with the home plate umpire over a ruling at the plate. This has led to the legend that Sharman holds the distinction of being the only player in baseball history to have ever been ejected from a major league game without ever appearing in one. However, although Sharman was among the Dodger bench players that had to go to the clubhouse, none of them were actually barred from playing in the game. In fact, in the top of the ninth, one of the other dismissed players, Wayne Terwilliger, was used as a pinch-hitter in the game.

The ball-strike calling was questionable in that game, but according to the Nats' broadcast team, the only unfair calls went in favor of the Mets. When Nats pitchers appeared to miss the box on your TV screen, it caught the corner.

Every day they go out their and earn their 29th or 30th place ranking among broadcast booths. What a couple of homers.

Even Hernandez and Darling who *were famous Mets* are capable of being neutral.

Keith spent a lot of time complaining that said pitch should have been strike 3 called against Alonso.

Indeed. And I don't need to hear them going on about how Adam Eaton is the second coming of Tony Gwynn or how Juan Soto is better than Albert Pujols was. (the former didn't happen (the latter did), but they gush about all these guys, no matter how ordinary).
