It took less than three years from Jose Quintana to go from solid big league pitcher to total garbage. He's only 32. Total garbage. Maybe he can resurrect himself as a bullpen lefty, but as far as a rotation guy, he's total garbage.

If he were a true MVP, Ohtani would tell the Angels to just give him the damn ball every day, Old Hoss style... :-)

As I predicted, judge drops the restraining order against Bauer. Next shoe to drop will be police dropping the case and then finally, a slap on the wrist from MLB for embarrassing the league. Her texts clearly show this was likely a badly executed extortion plot. He should be back by sept 1.

Orioles drop their 15th in a row, 7-2. They've been outscored 138-42 during the streak. The closest loss has been a 6-4 game in which they trailed 6-2 before tacking on a couple late runs.

When the 1988 Orioles lost 21 straight to start the season, at the end of the 21st game their run difference was 129-44. They had four one-run losses, including three in a row. One was in extra innings, another a walkoff. Five more losses were by two runs.

The Tigers had a 10-2 lead over the Angels at one point. It's 10-9 now.
   107. Hombre Brotani Posted: August 19, 2021 at 04:45 PM (#6035190)
Aaaaaaand the Angels take the lead, 11-10! The Tigers have blown an 8-run lead!
   108. Hombre Brotani Posted: August 19, 2021 at 04:58 PM (#6035192)
And now it's 13-10.
   109. Hombre Brotani Posted: August 19, 2021 at 05:18 PM (#6035199)
What a fantastic 24 hours for the Angels after that totally crappy Jack Morris thing. First, the Ohtani showcase last night, then an historic 8-run comeback this afternoon to nose back over .500.

Too bad the O's can't play the Cubs (winners of 2 in a row!!) ... I have to admit, a 96 run differential over 15 games and averaging over 9 RA puts the Cubs to shame. So while the current Cubs might be the worst team I've ever seen, they apparently aren't even thw worst team of the moment. I may have to tune into an O's game.
   111. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: August 19, 2021 at 07:09 PM (#6035216)
I have to admit, a 96 run differential over 15 games and averaging over 9 RA puts the Cubs to shame.

If it's any consolation to the O's, the 1899 Cleveland Spiders lost their last nine games by a total of 111 to 22.

And what about the 2000 Yankees? They were outscored by 84 runs in their last 18 games, including by 37 runs in their last 4 games. And then 25 days later they wrapped up their 3rd straight World Series with an 11-5 postseason run.

Dropping 3 in a row to the DBacks moves the Phils firmly from contender to pretender status.
   113. The Yankee Clapper Posted: August 19, 2021 at 07:26 PM (#6035219)
Yankees going with their ‘heavy package’ tonight: Voit at DH, Rizzo on 1st, and Gallo, Judge & Stanton in the outfield.
   114. cardsfanboy Posted: August 19, 2021 at 08:07 PM (#6035223)
A 1-0 first inning lead, at least they didn't let last nights disappointment carry over to this game.
   115. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: August 19, 2021 at 08:19 PM (#6035224)
Velazquez triple, Higashioka double, Wade walk, leadoff hitter Voit double, Voit goes to third on a bad throw, sacrifice fly by Rizzo, and all of a sudden it's 4-0 Yankees. The Twins starter didn't even make it into the 4th, and who says Voit and Rizzo can't co-exist?

And then in the 4th, a Velazquez single, a Velazquez SB and a Higashioka homer makes it 6-0. But will the Rays ever lose?
   116. cardsfanboy Posted: August 19, 2021 at 09:08 PM (#6035227)
4-1 Brewers.....
   117. Don August(us) Cesar Geronimo Berroa Posted: August 19, 2021 at 09:11 PM (#6035228)
Moved back to the cleanup spot Joey Votto, naturally, hit a 3 run hr.
   118. The Duke Posted: August 19, 2021 at 09:36 PM (#6035231)
Another night to learn the lesson that the cardinals can’t compete with good teams. They’ll turn around and win a bunch after this and get my hopes up again only to be ruined by another good team.
   119. cardsfanboy Posted: August 19, 2021 at 09:41 PM (#6035233)
At least Arenado hasn't given up on the season, 4-2 Brewers.
   120. cardsfanboy Posted: August 19, 2021 at 09:43 PM (#6035234)
Cardinals announcers and fans have been pushing Arenado as an Mvp candidate, when O'Neill has more war.... simply because of Nolan's more recent play when they did have a winning streak.

Let me state, there is currently no Cardinal on track to win or compete for a major award.
   121. cardsfanboy Posted: August 19, 2021 at 09:45 PM (#6035236)
Speaking of O'neill, 3 run homerun to make it 5-4, Cardinals.
   122. cardsfanboy Posted: August 19, 2021 at 09:47 PM (#6035237)
Lars goes back to back to make it 6-4 Cardinals. At least I'll get 60 cent drinks tomorrow even after the Cardinals blow this game.
   123. The Duke Posted: August 19, 2021 at 09:50 PM (#6035239)
A little fight in the cardinals. With Cincinnati winning this wound help out WC chances
   124. cardsfanboy Posted: August 19, 2021 at 10:04 PM (#6035242)
With Cincinnati winning this wound help out WC chances

How does that work?
   125. cardsfanboy Posted: August 19, 2021 at 10:05 PM (#6035243)
Obviously if the Cardinals win, that helps their chances, but with Cincy being a team directly ahead of them, and the Marlins not, how does cincy winning help the Cardinals?
   126. cardsfanboy Posted: August 19, 2021 at 10:10 PM (#6035244)
In my opinion today, Edman had the third base coach turn a triple into a double and an inside the park homerun turned into a triple. Okay, the double is called a double and an error, but he probably still scores.
   127. The Duke Posted: August 19, 2021 at 10:33 PM (#6035250)
I meant coming back to win keeps them from losing a game to cincy
   128. cardsfanboy Posted: August 19, 2021 at 10:37 PM (#6035251)
I have a funny feeling this pitcher is going to throw a wild pitch with the bases loaded.
   129. cardsfanboy Posted: August 19, 2021 at 10:39 PM (#6035252)
Or he might pull a Cardinal and walk in a run with the bases loaded.
   130. cardsfanboy Posted: August 19, 2021 at 10:40 PM (#6035254)
8-4 after the walk. Finally they pull the pitcher who just walked three consecutive batters.
   131. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: August 19, 2021 at 10:41 PM (#6035255)
The Yankees seem to be working on three bedrock principles these days: (1) win; (2) never win by more than 2 runs; and (3) give their fans a fright in the 8th and 9th.

Tonight they got ahead 6-0 early, Taillon let the Twins get back 3 in the 6th, Britton coughed up a run in the 8th, and Green gave up a moon shot in the 9th before hanging on for a 7-5 win. Ain't nothing coming easy, but a win's a win.
   132. The Duke Posted: August 19, 2021 at 11:04 PM (#6035259)
It’s interesting how everything you think you know at the ASB can change in a few short weeks. Yanks have risen from the dead. Giants keep winning even though everyone keeps calling the Dodgers the eventual division winner. Everyone just thought the Mets would keep winning with mirrors and the Braves didn’t have the pitching to make a run. Braves are now running away with it and the Mets owner is having a meltdown. Blue jays keep doing all the right things but keep treading water. White Sox get all their players back but have been having a bumpy time of it
   133. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: August 19, 2021 at 11:16 PM (#6035263)
That's baseball, Suzyn-----I mean, Duke.
   134. The Duke Posted: August 19, 2021 at 11:31 PM (#6035266)
On fangraphs WAR leaders, the Dodgers have 6 of the top 16 in the NL. And yet, they
Can’t win their division
   135. Don August(us) Cesar Geronimo Berroa Posted: August 20, 2021 at 08:19 AM (#6035282)
1. Season isn't over yet.
2. There's one word that describes baseball, that word is "youneverknow".

Giants record is 3 games ahead of pythag, Dodgers is 6 behind. Dodgers trail the Giants by 2.5 games. I would much rather the Giants win, because, well, screw the Dodgers. But, I wouldn't bet on it, even with the 2.5 game lead and only a quarter of the season left.
   136. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: August 20, 2021 at 09:05 AM (#6035286)
Both of those teams have a glorious history of blowing pennants to the other, although the Dodgers have probably blown more.
