No new Hall electees for first time since 1960

For the first time since 1960—and just the seventh time since the first election in 1936—the National Baseball Hall of Fame will not have a new group of electees in 2021. Yet because the Class of 2020’s induction was pushed back a year by the coronavirus pandemic, there will still be entrants welcomed into the hallowed Hall this summer.

The Baseball Writers’ Association of America announced Tuesday night on MLB Network that none of the 25 players on the 2021 ballot received at least 75 percent of votes—the threshold required for entry. Starting pitcher Curt Schilling came closest at 71.1 percent.

This is the first time since 2013 that the BBWAA did not elect anyone. With the Era Committee elections having been postponed until next winter because of the pandemic, 2021 has pitched a shutout.

#600 I still have the keys. I very intentionally don't use them for anything more than fixing pages borked by code tags.

1960 = Actual recency, TomH. You're not paying attention. Or, actually, #2-4 suggest that you don't understand the terms of discussion.

I'm out.

Much appreciated. The ignore function is always available for those who want to avoid particular comments, and nobody's pointing a gun to anyone's head to force them to click on the thread.

I don't know how complex things are on the back end, but I do wish key holders would move submissions to the front page. I've had a number of submissions never show up. No big loss, but I've decided to stop bothering if submissions aren't getting green-lighted.

For your enjoyment, here's One America News shivving Newsmax for "censoring" MyPillow's Mike Lindell: "Newsmax touts itself as real news for real people. But is this yet another case of a so-called fair and unbiased network being swept up by leftist censorship?"

#604 I'd probably approve more if I could just remember how. I left the site for several years and just forgot that process.

No worries, Ron J. Thank you.

The word that comes to mind here is "catfight".

I have keys.

#604 Don't give up. Most often, if a thread doesn't get published it's because a similar one already got published. I don't check for "pending" threads very often but that's usually the reason they don't get published. It looks like the one you submitted last week was eventually published, but the catch is that they show up in the newsfeed based on submit date, not publish date, so it's buried behind a week of other threads that were submitted and published since then. I've commented in it to bump it to Hot Topics. (Link is here.)

#600 I usually approach this per Jim's stated intentions years ago: off-topic discussion of politics should be taken to the forums. With that, I would normally set up a thread in the forums, link to it in the thread here, close commenting here, and set a link to here from the forum thread so people can easily go from the closed thread on the main site to the continued one in the forums. Looks like discussion from prior pages has somewhat resolved, and steagles and nick are trying to start new political discussion, so I'll point this to the forums shortly.

Link to continuation in the forums. Enjoy!
