Oakland A’s set to come to Portland on a baseball fact-finding mission

The A’s contingent will also make an official visit Portland next month. An MLB source confirmed that Fisher along with team president Dave Kaval, vice president Billy Beane and executive Sandy Dean are planning to come to Oregon to do some fact finding.

The Portland Diamond Project confirmed it all on Monday. Founder Craig Cheek and managing partner Mike Barrett issued a statement to The Oregonian/OregonLive that said, “PDP can confirm that we have engaged in talks with the Athletics, and plans for a visit by team officials are underway.

“PDP will have no further comment at this time.”

Who are we kidding? Vegas prints money and it's not like baseball can still pretend to be above selling out to the upstanding folks who run the gambling industry.

I am surprised to see Portland hasn't had affiliated baseball since 2010. That year the Beavers were last in the PCL with 294,332 fans.

FACT: Portland is in Oregon.

FACT: Leading exports of Oregon are wheat, integrated circuits, and beards

FACT: Oregon is the birthplace of Ty Burrell, Danny Ainge, and Mel Blanc

After what happened in Vegas, Billy Beane wants to take no chances and books the group into a bed and breakfast on an organic farm 30 miles outside of the city. However, Dave Kaval again drugs his friends, and they wake up in a quirky, offbeat indie hostel in a neighborhood that's just starting to gentrify. Beane has a Jason Giambi tattoo on his face and Dean is nowhere to be found - but they do have his severed finger. Hilarity ensues.

I think they should stay downtown and see the sights

Portland civic leaders could save a lot of coin by simply faxing a one-page document to a A's front office with the dollar amount they're willing to go in for. That's the only fact the A's need to find.

I look forward to the Kelly Green kilts and mandatory man buns.

If I'm the Portland city council, I don't accept the As for anything less than $500 million.

The Portland Antifas. They could keep the capital A on the uniform

Beane has a Jason Giambi tattoo on his face

Jeremy Giambi would have been funnier.

The PortlandiA's?

I don't think Portland would embrace the A's unless they sold themselves to a collective/community organization ala The Green Bay Packers. I am sure Fisher et. al. are chomping at the bit to agree to that.

They could make a play for the PNW rural vote and just prefix a 2 to the logo.

I've been surprised no one has mentioned the Portland Mavericks, owned by Bing Russell, father of Kurt Russell, who worked for the team in his youth. MLB had to pay Russell to split town so they could re-claim Portland for the PCL. A documentary was made about them a few years ago:

The Battered Bastards of Baseball
