Ohtani up for 2 ESPYs, including Best Athlete, Men’s Sports

Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani, Orioles first baseman Trey Mancini and the World Series champion Atlanta Braves are among the 2022 ESPY Award nominees, which were released Tuesday.

Ohtani is nominated in two categories: Best MLB Player and Best Athlete, Men’s Sports. Ohtani won the former award last year and is up against reigning NL MVP Bryce Harper, Yankees slugger Aaron Judge and 2021 World Series MVP Jorge Soler this year.

Wait, what?

<em>Jorge Soler?<em>

If you asked me to guess the four nominees for this extremely prestigious and important award, it would have taken me at least 100 tries before I came up with Jorge Soler.

Jorge Soler?

By MLB's calendar, the World Series MVP is more NOW than anyone.

I'm just surprised to find the ESPY's are still a thing, although I guess they'll be with us as long as ESPN can use them as a vehicle for self-promotion.
