deGrom (shoulder) saw one doctor today, who saw no issues. Mets are sending the NL MVP favorite for a second opinion as they understand the significance. But so far it’s a big relief!
Still no MRI?

"DeGrom (shoulder) underwent an MRI on Thursday that revealed no structural damage, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports"

2-run losses aren't close?

Total bollocks. The Red Sox were behind in both games late, taking the lead in the first game with a 3 run shot in the 7th and taking the lead in the 2nd game with a salami in the 8th. Of course the Sox pen leaked a run in the bottom half of the 9th to make it really fun for Red Sox fans everywhere!

The Red Sox staff has now shown it's true form. Which is it wasn't very good to begin with, but hey they are still winning so no complaints here.

What I'm most amazed by is how the D-backs, Orioles and Pirates continue to lose everyday. It's astounding.

second opinion for deGrom is "nothing to see here" and he is on pace to make his next turn in the rotation.

I hope MLB Network is showing the potentially historic DBacks game where they trail the Giants in the 7th, 6-2, in a bid for the longest road losing streak ever - this will be, AND IT WILL BE, 23rd straight since late April.

I'm more focused on my (yawn alert) golf pool where I hold a slim lead as the US Open first round continues

23 straight road losses. A .090 win% over their last 33 games.
   8. Walt Davis Posted: June 17, 2021 at 07:06 PM (#6024847)
Further on #5:

The DBacks have their second 13-game losing streak of the season. When's the last time that happened? (and it's virtually back-to-back ... they will be 2-28 after today)

As Hugh suggests, the DBacks are about to lose their 14th straight and the Pirates have lost 10 straight, has that ever happened before?

Some last 30 games records:

DBacks 2-28 (how is that possible?)
O's 6-24
Rangers 7-23
Pirates 8-22

   9. Howie Menckel Posted: June 17, 2021 at 07:25 PM (#6024849)
O's lost their 19th straight on the road today.

don't rest on those laurels, DBacks!

AZ only SV since May 10 is one of those 3-inning mopup efforts in blowout wins.

and this since MLB has begun embracing "anti-bullying" campaigns.

sport, heal thyself!

DBacks 2-28 (how is that possible?)

It's extraordinary. You can run all the analytics you want, but a MLB baseball team should really be able to win 8-10 games out of every 30 even if they are far and away the worst team in the league. What are the odds of something like that happening?
   11. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 17, 2021 at 07:29 PM (#6024851)
Blue Jays TOOTBLANNED themselves into a triple play against the Yankees. They are now hoping video review will spare them the last out.

EDIT: Video review provides no relief for Blue Jays. Triple play stands.

EDIT II: Runners were on 2nd & 3rd, batter hits tapper to pitcher who checks runner on 3rd, throws to 1st (1 out), the runner on 2nd had headed toward 3rd, causing that runner to head for home but get caught in a rundown (2nd out) and the runner on 2nd renewed his quest for 3rd, after having previously retreated, only to be tagged out sliding into the bag (3rd out).

Rebecca Lobo (basketball Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist): The whole thing was just weird. [Olympic swimmer] Gary Hall Jr. was having these philosophical debates with John Rocker about immigration and the strains it puts on hospitals. It was weird, surreal moments like that.

Papadakis: I was sitting there with Darryl Strawberry one night—Darryl ####### Strawberry—sitting there smoking. And I remember Darryl Strawberry being like, “How old are you, P?” And I was like, “26.” And he’s like, “Damn, you’ve been living hard, huh?” And I was like, “Fuck, Darryl Strawberry told me I’ve been living hard.” That’s a rough one. That’s a slap in the face.

In the bottom of the 6th, Aaron Judge leaps high above the outfield wall to rob the Buffalo Blue Jays of a 2-run HR; and in the top of the 7th, Giancarlo Stanton’s 2-run HR allows the Yankees to retake the lead, 5-4. It’s good to be big.

CB Bucknor had a great night behind the plate last night.
[/sarcasm]
Tonight he's at third, and they had to call Manhattan to get an overrule on him calling a foul ball a HR in the 9th.
Poor Gio Urshela had to run the bases, then pick up his bat and return to the plate. Exhausted, he struck out swinging.
(Also exhausted, from having to jog and endure yet another review of his play calling, Bucknor still picks up his same paycheck.)

I don't blame them.
   55. Snowboy Posted: June 17, 2021 at 11:11 PM (#6024917)
Yankees' Judge's leap over the wall (bott 6?) to rob a HR was quietly spectacular.
Call them "Buffalo Blue Jays" if you want (that's the product of political decisions made over a declared public health crisis) and maybe if they're playing in a major league stadium, Stanton's flat-footed one-handed swing isn't a HR, but Judge had that thing tracked. If the stadium is 10 feet bigger, or the wind is blowing another way, I still think he makes a catch. But his timing, and leap, and 6'8" height, make it truly remarkable to see.
   56. Howie Menckel Posted: June 17, 2021 at 11:38 PM (#6024919)
06.17... Craig Kimbrel struck out two in a perfect ninth for a save Thursday against the Mets.
Spin: Kimbrel hasn't allowed a hit in 6 1/3 scoreless innings this month, and he's tied for the major league lead with his 19 saves. On a grander scale, the save was the 367th of his career, moving him into a tie with Jeff Reardon for 10th place on the all-time list. He'll tie Jonathan Papelbon for ninth with his next save, and he could finish the year seventh ahead of Dennis Eckersley with 24 more saves.

Per NYY mgr Aaron Boone, Gleyber Torres’ back issue “doesn’t look like it’s anything too serious.’’
Felt a twinge in his lower back making a defensive play, received “a lot of treatment during the game. We’ll see where we’re at with him tomorrow.’’
   57. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 18, 2021 at 12:03 AM (#6024922)
Lots of excitement as San Diego Padres cough up a 2-0 lead in the top of the 9th to trail the Reds 4-2, only to come back with two HRs in bottom of the 9th to win 5-4. Full house, too.
