Seems like a starter who goes 5 innings and allows 2 or fewer runs in one of those 7-inning games should get credit for a quality start: they're leaving only 6 outs (28.6% of the total) on the table for the bullpen to get for the victory, whereas the standard 6-inning quality starter is leaving 9 outs (33.3%).

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2021 Boston Red Sox! Getting it done in every way possible.

I missed something here?

I missed something here?

Doubleheader games are only 7 innings each instead of 9.

Still? I missed that memo. Not a fan of that obviously. (and that is what I thought you were referring too, but I hadn't known for sure that it was still current this season.)

As far as stats go, I agree with you then, mind you, I will continue to argue that once you have qualified for a quality start, you cannot lose it either (so you pitched 6 innings allowed 3 runs... you go into the seventh inning and allow a leadoff homerun, that quality start shouldn't disappear...you already reached the qualifications, everything after that is after that)

Of course, I'm an actual fan of the quality start, I think that in this day and age, it's a much better indication of a starter than wins or losses, (of course average innings per start is also a much better indication than wins and losses to be honest)

I tried to submit this article the other day but it hasn't been posted yet, so I figured I would link it here:

Pitcher Hope Trautwein Throws A Perfect Game Of All Strikeouts

It's a rare feat in baseball or softball to pitch a "perfect game." That happens when no opponent reaches base — not by a hit, or a fielding error, or a walk.

But pitcher Hope Trautwein of the University of North Texas made history on Sunday by pitching a game more than perfect. Through all seven innings, she struck out every single one of the 21 batters she faced from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

First time it's ever been done in NCAA softball. I don't really follow the sport but I saw the article and thought it was pretty cool.

Patrick Corbin has given up 10 runs for the Nationals in an inning and a third. No one up in the bullpen yet.

EDIT: The Nationals did finally get a reliever going, but Corbin got the last 2 outs.

Wow, entering today ... the Rox have scored 44 in 7 games at home and 6 in 5 games on the road. Their home OPS isn't anything special (757) while the road one is appropriately terrible (501).

I realize that no one is reading this, but I'll shout into the wind anyway. The announcers on the DET/OAK game are seriously blaming game times on breaking balls. The answer is SO OBVIOUS, and they're blaming breaking balls.

Those hundredths of seconds add up.

[8] Well, the Rockies broke out for 5 runs today. A good show of hitting, but it wasn't enough since they gave up 7.
