Angels lost to the Padres tonight 10-3, but potentially more troubling, Mike Trout left the game with an apparent hand or wrist injury:
All-Star Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels left Monday night’s game against San Diego with an apparent injury to his left hand or wrist. Trout fouled off an 0-1 pitch from Nick Martinez leading off the eighth and immediately shook his left arm. Manager Phil Nevin and a trainer came out to check on him and he left the game.
Hand injuries can be tough on hitters. Ouch.

As there's no "TV" team that can match Gary/Keith/Ronnie, I've been "listening" to radio teams on MLB.TV as alternative. I'd recommend it to anyone with two caveats:
1. The audio doesn't always sync well with the video
2. The teams

So far, and this morning is a good example, the Slowes/Jageler Nationals' broadcast is in sync and enjoyable. Not quite as good as the A's Cast, but the Reds are a bit better than the A's. Meanwhile, I'm stuck with three days w/o GKR due to blackouts (living NM, blacked out for both Rockies and D'Backs...kinda sucks as a Mets fan), but listening to Howie, when he's up to it, is good, of course, but not GKR.

The Nathan's hot dog eating contest has been cancelled due to inclement weather. Baseball will have to carry the day. It's only a matter of time before they push for a retractable roof on coney island.

And apparently the hot dog contest is back on. Two hours delayed so everyone should be hungry.

Were they trying to use BBTF servers to heat the wieners?

It’s a hamate fracture for Trout. Missing 6 to 8 weeks wouldn’t be unusual, but Trout could be back for the tail end of the season, and the playoffs if the Angels make it.

I just read 10 days. Was expecting 60?

Cardinals keep running Wainwright out there even as his ERA approaches 10. What a way to go. Hopefully he'll get an ingrown toenail and need a 60 day rest

Oof! 77 hits in 48 innings for Wainwright. I didn't realize it had gotten that bad. K-rate is down to 11%. Weirdly avg EV and HH% given up are still league average. Maybe this is what every pitcher would look like these days if K-rates were magically cut in half.

Factoid of the day: Claude Passeau (1946) is the only Cub pitcher to ever start an AS game.

My q&d estimate is that if the K% was around 10% and nothing else changed, the average pitcher would be giving up a line around 310/380/510. Wainwright is at a staggering 358/403/581.

WAINWRIGHT HUMANELY PUT DOWN

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said after Tuesday's loss to the Marlins that Wainwright will be placed on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation, Ben Frederickson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Wainwright 2023 - 7.66 ERA
Gibson 1975 - 5.04 ERA
Carlton 1988 - 16.88 ERA (in 10 IP for the Twins, and a 5.74 ERA in 1987 for Indians and Twins, and a 5.10 ERA in 1986 for the Phillies, Giants, and White Sox)
Jesse Haines - 4.52 ERA in 1937
Bob Forsch - 5.32 ERA in 1989
Dizzy Dean 5.40 ERA in 1940 (had 5 more IP left in his career)

So who had the Marlins with 50 wins before the all star break? Anyone, anyone...I'm hearing crickets....

The Florida World Series dream lives on!

would any of the Marlins-Rays World Series games sell out?

Braves--Guardians features the thrid time today that I've seen the ghostie thrown out at home in extras. Guardians hoping to end it in b10.

(Cubs threw out the potential winning run in the 10th and the potential tying run in the 11th in their 7-6 win vs Brewers.)
   919. Walt Davis Posted: July 04, 2023 at 10:14 PM (#6136010)
The Marlins are ... amazing? They have a -21 run differential (well, -8 after today's shellacking of the Cards) but are an incredible 20-5 in 1-run games. But y'know, they all count and, unless they go 15 games under in 1-run games in the 2nd half, they're virtually guaranteed to be at least 500 and a very likely playoff team.

Guardians win.
