The Orioles broadcast ran a promo for Adley Rutschman leading into tonight’s game against the Yankees, urging folks to buy tickets to see their recently-promoted top prospect. However, he’s @ DH tonight, as he was Sunday, after making his debut as a catcher Saturday. Perhaps he’s now too valuable to risk playing in the field?

Aaron Judge get the Yankees off to a good start with a 1st-inning HR (#16) to left-center (418 feet).

good article in The Athletic on Starling Marte, just off the bereavement list.

his mom died when he was 9 years old, was raised by his grandmother.

homered on the first pitch he saw in the big leagues a decade ago. his first call was to grandma.

two years ago, his wife and mother of their 3 kids died suddenly - heart attack.

last week, grandma died, too.

back from his leave over the weekend, he swung at the first pitch he saw - and homered again.

Tucker Davidson just had a 42 pitch second inning for the Braves. That’s a sh*tload.

Davidson gets 2 outs in 4 pitches in the 3rd, walks Schwarber on 9 pitches, then gives up a triple to Realmuto and his night was over

Just kidding, unless you like group efforts - it's the Dodgers, so Tyler Anderson's 5 perfect innings where he has thrown only 49 pitches (!) with all but 10 for strikes probably only gets him through the 6th with a 6-0 lead, before Dave Roberts has rando relievers take over.

Aaron Judge’s 2-run HR (#17) to LF (405 feet) ties the game 4-4. That’s career HR #175 for Judge, which ties Bobby Murcer for 22nd on the Yankees Career HR Leaderboard.

Here's a statcast stat I've never looked at before ... % hard-hit (95+) per swing. %hard-hit per BBE (batted ball event) is pretty much the same boring list as avg EV, barrels, etc. which are also per BBE. But per swing gives us some idea of power and discipline.

Yordan Alvarez leads the league at just over 25%. Yikes, he's a large unit and one out of 4 times he swings, he's hammering the ball. Still, he's a slugger that appears in those other lists too.

But #2 is Brantley followed by Machado. #7 is Ke'Bryan Hayes, #8 is Mookie, #9 is Yandy Dian, #10 is Verdugo. Trea Turner, Contreras, Devers, Chapman are 11-14. On a per-swing basis, Lourdes Gurriel hits it hard as often as Vlad and Stanton. And there's good ol' Wander Franco at #20. Down at #30 is BBTF bete noire Eric Hosmer. Torres, Tim Anderson, LeMaieu, Edman are other guys that should be celebrated by the anti-TTO contingent (although I'm sure some of them K plenty).

I don't know that it's actually meaningful but I think it's an interesting group of guys.

double into the LF-CF gap ends the perfect game after 5 1/3 IP. was Anderson's 57th pitch.

this is the main MLB Network game tonight, and announcer Dan Plesac (1,065 games pitched, 7th all-time) said he noticed Anderson wiggling his fingers during the 5th inning and then gripping his flexor tendon in the dugout as the Dodgers added 3 more runs to make it 9-0.

maybe Roberts didn't notice. and there's a 1-out single for the hapless Nats in the rain.

Local police in the DC area presumably have an ABP out on Dave Roberts - do they have "Amber Alerts" there?

Anderson, after seemingly being uncomfortable with his arm in the 5th, allows 2 hits in the 6th and 3 more in the 7th. but with the bags loaded and 2 outs, giant first sacker Freddie Freeman does his freaky 'praying mantis thing' and chases down a soft fly that had gone over his head to save the shutout. I think he's only around 82 pitches, but it's 10-0, Dave, and you have the discomfort thing to boot.

..... and here comes Anderson on in the 8th. Ks the leadoff man on his 93rd pitch.
Plesac is ... confused, even after noting the Dodgers had a 'bullpen game' on Saturday.
and a second K on Pitch 97. Plesac is loving it, how Anderson - a fellow southpaw - is varying his pitches, and using each to set up the next one.

Cubs have some roster decisions coming up soon with Hoerner, Madrigal and Bote coming off the IL soon. They also have Villar, Simmons, Morel and Wisdom already on the roster. Bit challenging to carry 7 IF these days. :-) They've already DFA's Vargas. Contreras is nursing an owie but if he's ready to go then Higgins gets DFA'd/demoted (surely no options left) and Schwindel is probably out the door again.

Morel has played much too well to go down but he might have to go down for a bit since he has options. Simmons' bat has been terrible but they're paying almost real money. Madrigal also hasn't hit, he might have an option left. Ortega could be gone with one of Hoerner/Morel taking a shot in CF. And maybe the occasional not-good OF of Wisdom, Happ, Suzuki. What I think I'd like to see is Wisdom to 1B at least in a semi-platoon with Rivas (with Wisdom back at 3B/DH when Rivas plays). Are teams being forced back to 13 pitchers in June?

C -- Contreras, Gomes
1B -- Rivas
IF -- Madrigal, Bote, Wisdom, Simmons, Hoerner, Villar
OF -- Suzuki, Happ, Morel

I guess that's still 12 so we can squeeze in Ortega until Heyward comes off the IL. Clint Frazier I think is also supposed to be back soon

Pitch 101 for Anderson produces another K and now 8 scoreless innings and Dodgers still up 10 runs.
8 K, 0 BB, 5 H.

this is fun

just spotted Roberts in the dugout for the first time (DC traffic in the rain? just kidding) and sure enough Anderson's night is now done. a 10-1 final.

two infield hits for the Mets load the bases with 2 outs and trailing 2-0.

Lindor hits a fly ball down the left field line. 35-year-old Darin Ruf, pretending to be a LF, finds that the piano on his back provides too much momentum, as he barely overruns the ball which barely stays fair for a ground-rule double.

Behemoth Alonso then pounds a 3-run HR, further punishing the Giants for their defensive lineup impudence and it's 5-2 and Alex Cobb is not at all amused

Goldschmidt with the walkoff for win against Toronto. First time I've seen Berrios live. That guy has electric stuff. Wish we had him

I don't follow the Cardinals much, but Lars Nootbaar is either a MLB player or a guy who was a recently discovered Scandinavian porn star.
