In his professional career, Victor Robles has now been hit by a pitch 108 times in 508 games. That is just absolutely insane.
Move over Anthony Rizzo!
And Suarez is a machine.
Perhaps if you have an ad blocker like uMatrix that might have something to do with it?
I remember last year each time they'd go to a commercial break between innings it would get hung up and I'd have to restart the stream each time. I think that was their way of penalizing us for using an ad blocker, because that's what would've played otherwise.
Flashbacks to the 1924 World's Series???
Flashbacks to the 1924 World's Series???
Yes, but more recently, Bill Virdon's DP grounder in the 8th inning of game 7 of 1960. No pebble**, no Mazeroski walkoff.
** Although in this case it was a clump of hard dirt from the concrete-like Forbes Field infield

Mike Yastrzemski’s walkup song is When the Levee Breaks. Good sign, imo.
Trevor Story struck out 5 times today.
Is the juiced ball hampering clean fielding of the batted ball???
jehosophat.
jordan hicks has come on in the ninth with a 3-0 lead and promptly gives up a double, single, walk, single.
the tying run is on 3rd with no outs.
this team is the absolute most ridiculous cardinal team ever.
now hicks is being pulled. just great.
Freeman leads off. why not bring in Miller for one AB, and then go to Hicks?
Freeman is a tremendous hitter - .917 career OPS vs RH, .801 vs LH - but why not improve your odds?
what I hope it's not: if Miller takes out Freeman, then Hicks can't enter the game and get a SV.
and we have all learned that it's not whether you win or lose - it's whether your closer gets credit for a SV.
Freeman doubles, Donaldson singles, Markakis - down 0-2 - works out a walk, Riley doubles.
now it's 3-2, 2nd and 3rd, no one out - and it's Miller time (in more ways than one).
Miller punches out McCann, goes 11 pitches with a feisty Albies, who finally lunges one the opposite way that drops in for a game-tying single. a nice piece of hitting that gets undone when - like a Little Leaguer - he starts running towards second when the RF throw comes in.
who knew there would be what I believe is called a "cutoff man?" Albies a dead duck, so instead of 1st and 3rd one out, it's man on 3rd, 2 out. (a potential game-changing gaffe, but that's for another thread.)
back on topic, here comes Brebbia.
oh, that will be chalked up as a "blown SV" for Miller, which is hilarious.
if you come into a 6-1 game with 2 outs and the bases loaded, you can give up a 500-foot grand slam and a couple of line singles and even a walk - followed by a bullet caught at the warning track. collect your save!
but if Miller can't escape with no one scoring in this scenario - YOU BLEW IT!
(God, what a dopey stat)
walk to Culberson, but then Yadier frames a just-missed 2-strike pitch into a Acuna caught-looking K and we remain tied.
1-2-3 inning.
now with 1 out in the 10th, on comes STL LHP Webb to pitch to Freeman, who apparently forgot how to hit lefties between innings or something. well, this is a much weaker hit, an infield variety off the shift.
now a walk and here comes Markakis, who didn't merit a LHP in the 9th but does now.
fly out, then walk to Riley to load the bases because the LH/RH difference only started mattering not even an hour ago. your lesser lefty Webb then walks McCann to give the Braves the lead.
and Luke Jackson shuts the door on a 4-3 Braves win.
but it's all good because the Closer Preservation Act was honored.

Pedroia says surgery not an option right now. Asked if he thinks he will play again, he said, "I'm not sure."
1:48 PM - 27 May 2019
I am glad he had several moments of redemption (the ovations at Fenway, and an episode on "Curb Your Enthusiasm").
Lose weight? Bartolo Colon? Why would he need to do that? Here, have some of Bartolo’s Birthday Cake.
The ass, it is so red!
Now I picture him closing it in the door of the bullpen cart, like Ty Webb before the big match with Judge Smails.
Don't worry. It's good luck.
well god bless america is a garbage song, completely undeserving of any respect anyway, it makes every boy band song or girl band song appear to be Beethoven combined with Bohemian Rhapsody in comparison(or whatever you consider great vs crap).
But as 164 points out, military people don't take their cover off when "outside".
We are now at the 1/3 milepost of the 162-game season. In order to win 90 games they'd have to play at a 68-40 (0.630) pace the rest of the way. I don't see it.
Shame on me all the way !
Made up for it with the Ohtani caught stealing. All good.
That's very douchy.
Red Sox back to their winning ways after dropping 2 of 3 at Houston in a very tough series there. Time for another 8-2 run to at least make the East interesting, though it would seem that those battlers from the Bronx have cornered the market on the magic pixie dust this year. Their fans are going to be really disappointed though when all their "star" players return and actually play a little worse then the current crop of no-names; so that will be kind of fun to watch.
That's probably true, at least at first, but damn if they aren't going to have one of the deepest rosters in recent memory if and when those stars come back.

That's 26 players, one too many until September, but it's not the worst position to be in. Cashman's certainly earned his pay this time around.
autopsy being performed on the Mets is halted as they score 2 in the 8th to make it 8-5 and load the bases with one out. in comes Jansen for a 5-out SV - which even if he gets is a moral victory for the Mets, and more importantly they can enjoy some more Dodgers pen underbelly tomorrow night if that game is competitive.
JD Davis hits a sac fly to RF in an 8-5 game where the Mets already have had two guys thrown out at the plate. wait, wait, idiot Gomez tries to get to 3rd with 2 outs because - did I mention that he's stupid? - and Bellinger throws him out.
the runner at 3rd does not score before the out. so instead of 1st and 3rd, 2 out in an 8-6 game, the inning is over and it's 8-5.
bonus points for helping Kenley Jansen's pitch count down for the rest of the series.
DFA time? the Mets are very familiar with this process of late.
Update: Mets got an Alonso triple in the 9th and coaxed 17 pitches out of Jansen, who needed only 2 pitches to get 2 outs in the 8th thanks to Gomez's boner. that could loom large in the rest of the series.
