Fernando Tatis Jr. has been suspended 80 games for use of a banned substance, per mlb.com.
   202. cardsfanboy Posted: August 12, 2022 at 07:27 PM (#6091408)
Tatis suspended 80 games... ouch.
   203. Banta Posted: August 12, 2022 at 07:27 PM (#6091409)
Yeah, this game is all off. Max gives up three hits, Apple is broadcasting, and the Mets only see eight pitches in the first. I don’t like it at all.
   204. The Yankee Clapper Posted: August 12, 2022 at 07:31 PM (#6091410)
With 1 out, Judge BB & Rizzo double gives the Yankees a 1-0 lead @ Boston, but after a Donaldson single that only advances Rizzo to 3rd, Torres GIDP ended what might have been a more significant inning.
   205. salvomania Posted: August 12, 2022 at 07:35 PM (#6091411)
F*ckin Tatis.

What an unbelievable screw up. First the motorcycle riding leading to a broken wrist. Now this.

He was poised to be the King of Baseball, the face of the game, for next decade.
   206. Banta Posted: August 12, 2022 at 07:40 PM (#6091412)
Oh boy, not feeling this Mets game tonight. Escobar has failed to field two balls he usually would, Scherzer has hit a guy with two strikes, and now the Phillies have the bases loaded

The upside is that if this gets out of hand, I won’t feel compelled to listen to this broadcast.

But as I type that, the inning is over with no further damage.
   207. Banta Posted: August 12, 2022 at 07:59 PM (#6091414)
Mets tie it and more interestingly, pinch hit Escobar. Pretty harsh, as he probably should have made the plays but seems sort of harsh to pull him.

Now McNeil is also out?? And Canha is at third? I’m confused. What is going on, a mutiny?

Twitter speculates that McNeil is hurt, Apple TV has no idea what’s going on. What a game for the Mets team not to broadcast.
   208. The Yankee Clapper Posted: August 12, 2022 at 08:06 PM (#6091415)
Aaron Judge delivers the verdict, gaveling a HR (#46) out of Fenway (429 feet) to make it 2-0 Yankees. With that HR, Judge passes Roger Maris, and ties Robinson Cano (204) for 15th on the Yankees Career HR Leaderboard. That may not be the last time Judge passes Maris this season.

That was also Judge’s 100th RBI. He’s now at a gaudy .306/.399/.689 for the season.
   209. Mayor Blomberg Posted: August 12, 2022 at 08:08 PM (#6091416)
Tatis statement:

"I have been informed by Major League Baseball that a test sample I submitted returned a positive result for Clostebol, a banned substance. It turns out that I inadvertently took a medication to treat ringworm that contained Closteblol. I should have used the resources available to me in order to ensure that no banned substances were in what I took. I failed to do so.
“I want to apologize to [Padres chairman] Peter [Seidler], [general manager] A.J. [Preller], the entire Padres organization, my teammates, Major League Baseball, and fans everywhere for my mistake. I have no excuse for my error, and I would never do anything to cheat or disrespect this game I love.
“I have taken countless drug tests throughout my professional career, including on March 29, 2022, all of which have returned negative results until this test.
"I am completely devastated. There is nowhere else in the world I would rather be than on the field competing with my teammates. After initially appealing the suspension, I have realized that my mistake was the cause of this result, and for that reason I have decided to start serving my suspension immediately. I look forward to rejoining my teammates on the field in 2023.”

Clostebol acetate has dermatological uses as an ointment.
   210. Banta Posted: August 12, 2022 at 08:10 PM (#6091417)
Oh, the old ringworm excuse! What a dog!

Buck now claiming that Escobar is hurt or something. Had a little something that they wanted to stop before it became something major. I’m not sure I buy it. He also says McNeil hurt his finger.
   211. Tom Goes to the Ballpark Posted: August 12, 2022 at 08:10 PM (#6091418)
He was poised to be the King of Baseball, the face of the game, for next decade.
In retrospect, he may not be a good candidate for a 14 year contract.
   212. Banta Posted: August 12, 2022 at 08:18 PM (#6091419)
Scherzer bending but not breaking, 7 hits for the Phillies through four but only one run.
   213. Banta Posted: August 12, 2022 at 08:38 PM (#6091420)
Canha makes a nice routine play at third and gets almost as large of a cheer as Lindor’s beautiful play the play before. That’s how it goes for Frankie.

Apple TV broadcast mentions Lindor as a dark horse candidate for MVP, and they’re probably right, but don’t tell most Mets fans that. They chant MVP for Pete and Pete alone… even though Lindor leads the team in WAR. You just can’t be the fan favorite when you make a a quarter billion.

Apple TV also tells me that Nido’s reach base percentage on an 0-2 count is 24%. I do not believe that for even a fraction of a second and makes me think their stats are complete trash.
   214. Banta Posted: August 12, 2022 at 08:56 PM (#6091421)
Holy moly, it took me this long to realize that one of the announcers is Cliff Floyd. I love Cliff Floyd! This is obviously a great broadcast.
   215. Banta Posted: August 12, 2022 at 09:16 PM (#6091423)
More fun with reach base percentage, Ruf had 33% on an 0-2 count. I’m not sure what that number is even supposed to be.
   216. The Mighty Quintana Posted: August 12, 2022 at 09:24 PM (#6091424)
Jeez, and quite a statement by Preller alluding to a pattern of immaturity with Tatis. Rarely see that kind of public displeasure stated so directly.
   217. The Mighty Quintana Posted: August 12, 2022 at 09:24 PM (#6091425)
Padres general manager A.J. Preller called the suspension "very disappointing" and said the team was hoping to see more maturity out of their young star.

"He's somebody that from the organization's standpoint we've invested time and money into. When he's on the field, he's a difference maker. You have to learn from the situations," Preller told reporters, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "We were hoping that from the offseason to now that there would be some maturity, and obviously with the news today, it's more of a pattern and it's something that we've got to dig a bit more into. ... I'm sure he's very disappointed. But at the end of the day, it's one thing to say it. You've got to start showing by your actions."
   218. Banta Posted: August 12, 2022 at 09:26 PM (#6091426)
Maybe they should trade Tatis to the Nationals!

Another day, another two Ks from Diaz. Mets have a good chance to win it here in the bottom of the ninth with Marte, Lindor, and Alonso.
   219. Snowboy Posted: August 12, 2022 at 09:46 PM (#6091427)
In still covid related news, CLE placed RHP James Karinchak on the restricted list for being unvaccinated, and unable to travel into Canada to play weekend series @TOR, and selected the contract of RHP Peyton Battenfield from Columbus Clippers.

Also TOR had recently acquired Whit Merrifield starting tonight at 2B. Merrifield was placed on the restricted list July 14-17 by the Royals for not being vaccinated and unable to enter Canada, but apparently he is now able to satisfy the regulations.

Note that proof of vaccination is no longer required for domestic Canadian flights, but is still required for international arrivals, or a plan for quarantine must be presented. If travelers don’t submit travel information and proof of vaccination using ArriveCAN app they could be fined $5,000. Even fully vaccinated international travelers may be subject to random orders that they must submit a test. Upon your entry to Canada by air or at a land border crossing, you may be randomly selected for a mandatory arrival test. You must complete your arrival test with an approved test provider. Your test provider is based on where you entered the country.

All passengers must wear a mask throughout their entire journey within Canada, or to and from the country, in areas that are regulated by Transport Canada. This includes passing through the security points, in the boarding lounges, and on the plane or train. Baggage claim for international arrivals happens before clearing a second Canada Customs point, so masks are still to be worn there, but since domestic baggage claim is technically outside of the area regulated by Transport Canada the mask requirement is less stringently enforced there.

Eh, Mets waste the lead off double as Vogelbach can’t quite get the sac fly deep enough and Marte is thrown out at the plate. In real time, I yell it’s not deep enough, but I guess I can’t fault sending him too much. Onto extras.

And now Nido misses another ball from the outfield, robbing Marte a chance to return the favor at throwing a runner out at home. Blargh. He misses a lot of those, it seems. Phillies up 2-1 on the phantom runner.
   221. Banta Posted: August 12, 2022 at 10:07 PM (#6091432)
Phillies manage to slow the Mets train. Didn’t seem like their night all game, lots of little things. That’s what it takes to beat them lately.

Oh well, deGrom tomorrow!
   222. cardsfanboy Posted: August 12, 2022 at 10:32 PM (#6091433)
Not the best solution, but changing the date on my computer allows me to post without having to deal with the certificate issue. I can always change it back later.

The updated Aaron Judge HR Pace Tracker:
Most HR in a season - with totals through 113 team games:

2001 Barry Bonds: 73 -- 48
1998 Mark McGwire: 70 -- 45
2022 Aaron Judge: 66 (current pace) -- 46
1998 Sammy Sosa: 66 -- 42
1999 Mark McGwire: 65 -- 44
2001 Sammy Sosa: 64 -- 40
1999 Sammy Sosa: 63 -- 43
1961 Roger Maris: 61 -- 41
1927 Babe Ruth: 60 -- 36
Judge might be only the 2nd Hall of Famer in that group.
   224. Bret Sabermatrician Posted: August 12, 2022 at 11:39 PM (#6091435)
Bonds and McGwire each hitting 25 HRs in their team's last 49 games is insane.
   225. shoelesjoe Posted: August 13, 2022 at 12:02 AM (#6091436)
Third Wild Card in the AL now belongs to the ……Baltimore Orioles, after they blew out the Rays tonight in Tampa. Maybe even bigger news for O’s fans is that they’re apparently promoting DL Hall to start Saturday against Shane McClanahan. Hall was dominant at AAA earlier in the season, but has been inconsistent over the last month.

Went to the Astros-As game last night. My god the As are terrible. Not only do they have only one regular who’s above average, most of the other guys don’t even have a hope of being above average - it’s not like the team got old on them fast or they were crushed by injuries. They’re just a team that would probably - but not certainly - finish first in the PCL, except Beane hired them to play a big league schedule. What an embarrassment.
   227. Walt Davis Posted: August 13, 2022 at 03:50 PM (#6091484)
I think if you melded Cleveland SP Triston McKenzie and Nats RP Carl Edwards, Jr into one person, you're still below one Vogelbach. McKenzie looks almost unhealthy -- listed at 6-5, 165.
   228. Walt Davis Posted: August 13, 2022 at 06:43 PM (#6091495)
Not so much a trivia question as a community research task: Watched a bit of the Jays-Guardians and there was a little chrono that Josh Naylor is the 15th Canadian-born player to homer in the Skydome. I don't know who the other 14 are but surely we can track this down. I assume the Jays have had their share of Canadians but my Jays trivia knowledge is slim.

I'll start with two obvious ones -- Larry Walker (2) and Joey Votto (4).
   229. Snowboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 07:05 PM (#6091497)
Vladdy Jr.
Matt (In Case of Emergency, Use) Stairs
Rob Butler
Rob Ducey
Brett Lawrie
Corey Koskie
Justin Morneau
Russell Martin
Michael Saunders
Tyler O'Neill ?
Dalton Pompey
George Kottaras ?
Jason Bay
Would love to say Stubby Clapp (just because that's a fun name to say) but he never hit a homer anywhere in the majors.
   230. Snowboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 07:16 PM (#6091500)
Like Walker and Votto (and Naylor,) Morneau, O'Neill, Kottaras, and Bay would have to have done it as visiting players.
   231. The Yankee Clapper Posted: August 13, 2022 at 07:23 PM (#6091501)
In 20 games since the All-Star Game, Aaron Judge has hit .403/.547/1.014, for a 1.561 OPS, with 13 HRs, 30 RBI, and 29 runs. Perhaps wisely, the Red Sox walk him in the 1st inning tonight.
   232. cardsfanboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 07:28 PM (#6091502)
I clicked on Walker, clicked Canada, sorted by most homeruns.

Matt Stairs is Canadian.
   233. cardsfanboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 07:31 PM (#6091503)
Going into this series with the Brewers, the Cardinals had half a game lead, best they could do was 3.5 worst they could do was 2.5 back, so although the series is important, no matter what happened for either team, it's not even close to the end of the season and both teams would still control their own destiny as they have another four games against each other.
   234. Snowboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 07:31 PM (#6091504)
Whoops, I missed on Rob Butler. Like Clapp, he also never homered in the majors.
And I missed with Kottaras, who hit 32 homers but never at SkyDome.
   235. Snowboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 07:37 PM (#6091505)
The ? beside Tyler O'Neill was correct, my guess was not. Not yet.
I failed to guess Aaron Guiel, who is from somewhere in British Columbia, and played 5 of 6 seasons for KC, 35 career HR, 1 @TOR on May 3, 2004.
   236. Snowboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 07:47 PM (#6091506)
I shouldn't have second-guessed myself on Dalton Pompey.
He only had 3 career HR, so I dropped him to guess some with more power.
But he actually did hit 2 of his 3 HRs at SkyDome.
   237. The Duke Posted: August 13, 2022 at 07:48 PM (#6091507)
This guy who hit the HR cycle the other night. What are the odds to have a chance to even come up in the those four situations much less hit four home runs.

It's only been done twice EVER.

Does Vegas have odds in this ? Lotto odds?
   238. Snowboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 07:54 PM (#6091508)
Abraham Toro of SEA homered off Ross Stripling this May at SkyDome.
He also hit his 2nd ever HR there, as an Astro, off Ken Giles. (Remember the TOR Ken Giles era? Neither does anyone else.)
He's from Longueuil, Quebec. I've been there, went to visit a cute little French girl.
   239. Banta Posted: August 13, 2022 at 07:55 PM (#6091509)
Now that the Mets have snapped their streak of scoring five runs a game, I can safely resume my whining about their catchers. Can someone explain why Nido is seemingly playing more than McCann? Neither are great but McCann has a better career hitting wise. And Nido is still on my crap list for missing another throw from the outfield last night.
   240. Snowboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 07:58 PM (#6091510)
Josh Naylor
Larry Walker
Joey Votto
Vladdy Jr.
Matt (In Case of Emergency, Use) Stairs
Rob Ducey
Brett Lawrie
Corey Koskie
Justin Morneau
Russell Martin
Michael Saunders
Dalton Pompey
Jason Bay
Aaron Guiel
Abraham Toro

Thanks Walt!
   241. Walt Davis Posted: August 13, 2022 at 08:10 PM (#6091511)
So how about Canadian-born players to HR in Montreal? Walker of course. (1969-2004 to save you the trouble.) Interleague play began in 1997 so the list of players to do both will be fairly short.

Did MLB ever do anything like play a regular season game in Vancouver or something?
   242. Walt Davis Posted: August 13, 2022 at 08:15 PM (#6091512)
Snowboy ... looks like no for Rob Ducey in Toronto; he does have one in Montreal.

Ahh ... my baddish ... he had one at Exhibition Stadium. My fault, the actual factoid on the broadcast said "Rogers Centre" which I assume incl Skydome but not Exhibition. I'd forgotten all about Exhibition, oops.
   243. Walt Davis Posted: August 13, 2022 at 08:23 PM (#6091513)
Back to the present ... it's just a handful of games but since coming back off the IL, Nick Madrigal has finally shown us some Nick Madrigal -- 9 for 22 plus 3 BB, 4 K in 25 PA.

Also Franmil Reyes is a generously proportioned human being.

Dodgers already up 8-2. Making the Royals actually play the Dodgers seems cruel.
   244. Snowboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 08:34 PM (#6091514)
Not in Vancouver that I can think of, although minor league teams there over the years.
Expos did play home games in Puerto Rico though, wonder how many Puerto Ricans homered at home?

Dave McKay homered a few times at old Exhibition Stadium, but Walt's inkling is correct, without inter-league play, the list of CDNs to homer at Jarry Park or Le Stade Olympique would be short.

Terry Puhl of Melville, Saskatchewan played his whole 15 season career for HOU, hitting 62 HR, 5 of them @MON.
   245. Snowboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 08:39 PM (#6091515)
Gosh Walt, I just caught my error with Rob Ducey too!
I just assumed...and then when you prompted looking at HR@MTL I deep-dived some guys, and noticed Ducey homered for Expos at Olympic Stadium, and for Jays at home, but in The Ex. (And Exhibition Stadium still stands, converted to a soccer/football stadium, and is in a different location than SkyDome, so that wouldn't count.)
   246. cardsfanboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 08:41 PM (#6091516)
Pitchers duel going on in St Louis, Burnes vs Waino going into the bottom of the sixth.
   247. Banta Posted: August 13, 2022 at 08:45 PM (#6091517)
deGrom is at 75 pitches through six. He best be pitching another inning, as he’s at basically the pitch count and innings he was last game. If they pull him here, that’s what I call stagnation. I guess there’s still time to ramp him up before the post season, but these games are important too. If they miss out on the first round bye, that’s tough. It would be nice if they Mets decided to score more than one run every time Jake is pitching.

And they are pulling deGrom. No progress this game. Very frustrating. Do they realize that pitchers don’t hit anymore and you can pull your starter midinning?

He also gave up a hit in the sixth but struck the last guy out on three pitches. Unlike the Braves game, he didn’t look to be tiring and actually threw less pitches this game than the one prior. I admit I am probably overreacting, but I am hoping it isn’t several more starts before we can even see 90 pitches.
   248. cardsfanboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 08:55 PM (#6091518)
McCutchen (of course) breaks up the no-hitter with two outs in the 7th. McCutchen has more hits against Wainwright(25) than any other player.
   249. Sleepy was just looking for porta potties Posted: August 13, 2022 at 09:17 PM (#6091519)
Jim Edmonds just had one of the great “baseball guy” moments in broadcast history, calling Nolan Gorman’s rbi double off of burnes.

(Paraphrased)

“Last time he faced him, in Milwaukee, he struck out three times. I talked to him for a minute after the game and told him you have to give up something; just don’t even look for the inside cutter, you aren’t going to hit that. give that up and wait for the fastball outside and drive it. Maybe he’ll make a mistake.

Pause, as Gorman takes a cutter for a strike.

“Ok, this will be the pitch to hit right here…”

Gorman smashes an outside fastball into the Lcf gap for the first run of the game.
   250. Banta Posted: August 13, 2022 at 09:21 PM (#6091520)
And now Nido failed at the sac bunt, his only offensive skill, bouncing into a DP. Mets still up 1-0 with Diaz looming. Their offense has either been scorching or ice cold for the last month.
   251. JJ1986 Posted: August 13, 2022 at 09:31 PM (#6091521)
I had become accustomed to the invincible Edwin Diaz.
   252. cardsfanboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 09:34 PM (#6091522)
O'Neil about to have his 15th consecutive strikeout (not really, but man he just can't make contact any more)
   253. Walt Davis Posted: August 13, 2022 at 09:34 PM (#6091523)
To save some time, Stairs never HR'd in Montreal. Morneau never played there. Koskie played there but never HR'd. Weirdly, Jason Bay had 4 HR in Estadio Hiram Bithorn but never played in Montreal. I was really hoping Fergie had one in Montreal but no luck. (none for Fergie in Tor obviously.) So I think it's just Walker in the Big O and Skydome; Ducey also for the Tor-Mtl double. I suppose we shouldn't rule out Vladito getting one in Mtl before his career is over.

Fergie does have 36th place all to himself on the all-time Canadian-born HR list with 13.

I wonder who has the record for most stadia played (or homered) in. Somebody who played in both leagues but also somebody who played during an era with lots of stadia cross-overs. I'll nominate Mike Morgan with 42 (at least that many listed at b-r, not entirely sure how they handle name changes and remodels) -- 2 in each of Atlanta, Balt, CHW, Cle, Colo, (oops: NOT Fla/Mia), Hou, Minn, Milw, Pitt, SFG, Tex and Tor.
   254. JJ1986 Posted: August 13, 2022 at 09:37 PM (#6091525)
Omar Vizquel has to have a huge amount of stadiums.
   255. Banta Posted: August 13, 2022 at 09:38 PM (#6091526)
Phew! Diaz walks two and looks pretty rough, but Ks to record the final out. I was very worried because he hasn’t even had a one run lead to save in a long time, so it would have figured if he would have faltered here. I’m also sort of hating that they show his full intro every time he comes in now, they’re just looking to hex him!

His success is totally dependent on his slider control. Today he struggled but threw enough quality ones to sneak the Mets away 1-0.
   256. cardsfanboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 09:44 PM (#6091527)
Bottom of the ninth 1-1 game, Waino just threw his 109th pitch... If you are a Cardinal fan, you have exactly who you hope to have coming up. Goldy/Arenado/Gormon/
   257. Walt Davis Posted: August 13, 2022 at 09:51 PM (#6091529)
Indeed, I think Vizquel is at 47. He even played at Exhibition!
   258. cardsfanboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 09:54 PM (#6091530)
That is another one that is too close to overturn.
   259. Walt Davis Posted: August 13, 2022 at 10:02 PM (#6091531)
So they run these poll things on Marquee. Today's question is "if you were starting a team, what would you draft first" with choices "elite starting pitcher", "5-tool OF", "5-tool IF", "lights-out reliever" and "GG Catcher." Almost half took the elite SP, GG C was next with 11%. Will people ever learn? The greatest #1 overall SP is David Price -- a fine pitcher but hardly a franchise cornerstone. Gerrit Cole has a good shot at passing him and it's early enough he has a shot at the HoF.

HoFers (in the non-roid universe) are ARod, Chipper, Griffey, probably Mauer, probably Harper, good shot Correa, longer shot Cole, miracle Strasburg. And Harold Baines of course. So of course the real lesson is that nothing is guaranteed in the draft.

Granted the phrasing of the options probably influenced things a bit. "Elite" suggests "would you draft Scherzer?"; "5-tool OF" could be Corey Patterson; and there's even more daylight between "5-tool IF" and ARod.

I hope one of those folks who drafted Mike Matheny #1 overall are put in charge of the Cardinals.
   260. cardsfanboy Posted: August 13, 2022 at 10:02 PM (#6091532)
Well that went to s--t quickly. 3-1 in the 10th, Brewers, triple with the man on second to start the inning.
   261. Walt Davis Posted: August 13, 2022 at 10:04 PM (#6091533)
Cubs win! Cubs win! We're practically the Dodgers these days.
   262. TomH Posted: August 13, 2022 at 10:35 PM (#6091537)
As of 10:30 ET on Aug 13, the LA Dodgers

- have scored 56 more runs than the next most prolific NL offense
- have allowed 60 fewer runs than the next best NL team

Which puts them clearly on pace to lead the NL in both

scoring
and
run prevention

...for the FIFTH YEAR IN A ROW

which is unprecedented in MLB.

No other team has done this more than TWO years in a row in over 80 yeasrs.

Waino with two CG losses this year. CG are super - rare and he's lost both of them.

tremendous atmosphere at the Mets game last night!

now that the Edwin Diaz trumpet intro has gone viral, it was an 'extended play' version last night. I almost expected it to continue during the half-inning, lol.

'perfect storm' in terms of trying to drive out, alas:

- gorgeous weather
- division rival
- 1-0 game
- everyone stays to hear the Diaz trumpets in the 9th

so instead of a 10:15 game time ending and escape the parking lot at 10:30, it was 9:40 game time ending - and escape the parking lot at 10:30.

still worth it - and a free Ron Darling bobblehead doll to boot !

Brandon Marsh looks like he spends his free time running drills in case he ever needs to kidnap his governor.

Renfroe hits a dinger will Carlson almost catching the ball. Incredible effort.

Hunter now with 7 homers and 17 rbi since the ASB

Pujols gets a fastball about waist high down the middle and even at 52 Pujols can handle that pitch from a lefty. 2-1 Brewers. Dinger 688

The Brewers TV team has a regular promo for a casino called Potawatomi. My oldest thinks that name is hilarious so instead of giving an actual response to something he will just say Potawatomi.

Goldschmidt against lefties coming into this game--.443/.532/.835 1.367

The Phillies defense is never not hilarious.

Renfroe almost hits another but caught on the track.
   272. Banta Posted: August 14, 2022 at 03:12 PM (#6091590)
Mets are back on track to their “lucky” scoring ways, scoring 4 against Wheeler with two outs in the fourth to go up 5-0. Guillorme pulled up lame though and looks like it could be a hamstring issue (just guessing). That’s pretty bad news, Escobar is banged up already and even with him, Guillorme is an important piece that gives them a lot of versatility. I don’t even know who replaces him from the minors if he’s down for awhile.

Escobar is well enough to come in and play third. So no Canha encore today.
   273. JJ1986 Posted: August 14, 2022 at 03:17 PM (#6091591)
Gosuke Katoh was the guy they had ready to call up, but it looks like he doesn't play SS at all so maybe they'd go with JT Riddle who is also at Syracuse. These are not the most inspiring options.

Yelich not getting any favors on two pitches high by mlb app but ump called both strikes.

Feliciano in his first career start catching in bigs. Drops his glove as target when pitcher is about to release ball which I would find distracting if I was about to throw. But Ashby being really efficient today so whatever works

But then makes a terrible pitch which gets hit out so it's tied

WOW. Urias snags a SMASH by Goldschmidt and throws him out
   278. Tom and Shivs couples counselor Posted: August 14, 2022 at 03:45 PM (#6091599)
Brewers as a team take a lot of pitches but still see guys swinging at bad pitches out of zone even up in the count. So weird
   279. The Duke Posted: August 14, 2022 at 03:46 PM (#6091600)
Rasmussen perfect through 7 with a whopping 63 pitches
   280. Banta Posted: August 14, 2022 at 03:48 PM (#6091601)
Gosuke Katoh was the guy they had ready to call up, but it looks like he doesn't play SS at all

That’s probably okay, barring injury, Lindor is gonna play every day. That’s also assuming that Guillorme is only out for a couple weeks. If he’s out for the year then I don’t know what they’d want to do.
   281. Tom and Shivs couples counselor Posted: August 14, 2022 at 03:49 PM (#6091602)
Goldschmidt returns the favor against Wong. Nice play
   282. Tom and Shivs couples counselor Posted: August 14, 2022 at 03:52 PM (#6091603)
Ashby out. One of his better starts. Two crap pitches and Cards nailed both. Otherwise, good work
   283. The Duke Posted: August 14, 2022 at 03:55 PM (#6091605)
Rasmussen through 8 and still perfect. Oder with 8 pitch at bat in 8th. Rasmussen at 79
Pitches
   284. salvomania Posted: August 14, 2022 at 03:57 PM (#6091606)
Drew Rasmussen is throwing a pretty nice game for TB so far vs. the O's.

Through 8 innings, he's only thrown 79 pitches, and only 23 balls to the 24 batters he's faced.
   285. Tom and Shivs couples counselor Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:05 PM (#6091607)
Will be interesting to see the umpire auditor twitter assessment of this game. Mikolas has had his share of strikes that per the mlb app are out of the zone.
   286. Banta Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:06 PM (#6091608)
Not to hex him, but Rasmussen is facing OBPs of .278, .301, and ..219 to try and finish this game.
   287. The Duke Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:07 PM (#6091609)
And just like that the no hitter is gone
   288. Tom and Shivs couples counselor Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:08 PM (#6091610)
No idea what Caratini was waiting for as he took two pitches thigh high down the middle and struck out
   289. The Duke Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:10 PM (#6091612)
Shut out gone
   290. Banta Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:12 PM (#6091613)
So I did hex him!

Dodgers finally losing decisively. Let's see if Royals can hold on
   292. Tom and Shivs couples counselor Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:13 PM (#6091615)
Rogers hangs a breaking pitch and Carlson gets it out. 3-2 Cards and with this Brewers offense that should do it
   293. Banta Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:13 PM (#6091616)
I like that “losing decisively” for the Dodgers means 3-0 in the 7th.
   294. Tom and Shivs couples counselor Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:14 PM (#6091617)
Urias bad version makes terrible throw on a tough play so now runner at second.
   295. Walt Davis Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:17 PM (#6091618)
Whose brilliant idea was it to try Patrick Widsom at 1B? :-) Anyway, hopefully getting next spring to work on it will do wonders.

Reds 8-5 over the Cubs in the 7th.
   296. Tom and Shivs couples counselor Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:21 PM (#6091619)
Goldschmidt 35 and having his best season. Figure he wins MVP and now he's just got to not crater to have a legit HOF case
   297. salvomania Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:22 PM (#6091620)
Albert with his 2nd homer of the game, No. 10 on the season, a three-run shot that puts the cardinals up 6-2 over the Brewers in the bottom of the 8th---an inning that began tied at 2-2.
   298. Tom and Shivs couples counselor Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:23 PM (#6091621)
Apparently it's let's make Albert look young again day for Crew as Rogers puts a fastball in middle of zone and Pujols crushes it. 6-2 and that's definitely all she wrote. Rogers not impressing so far. Throws so many pitches in heart of zone with not much movement
   299. Banta Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:24 PM (#6091622)
Guillorme is groin tightness according to Cohen. That’s more promising to me than a hamstring, so maybe he’ll avoid the DL. Imaging tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Win it all or not, I just really want the Mets to be healthy in the postseason. That’s what killed me about the ‘06 season which was so much fun and they were really good until near the end when they lost almost all their starters. Makes for a great story if you manage through it but just really unfortunate to lose without all your guns. I know this isn’t exactly a hot take.
   300. Tom and Shivs couples counselor Posted: August 14, 2022 at 04:25 PM (#6091623)
Brewers are a run prevention first team so that means starters, bullpen and defense all have to be good to have a chance. Pen has been awful for several weeks and no sign that things get better. So that sucks
