1. Hombre BrotaniWhat that says to me is that Trevor Bauer had to work really hard to keep that lead against the Giants lineup.
Yasmani Grandal has 11 hits in 2021.
But he has scored 20 runs, and driven in 17.
If he keeps up this pace, he will score 75 runs... while hitting .133!
Hilariously, he got the first batter on one pitch.
For the record, it was 26 batters and the run was unearned. He needed 35 pitches to get through the 4th (no runs). He threw 13 pitches to the two batters in the 6th. He went 3-2 on "just" 8 batters.

Welp that was a fun 4 innings for Mikolas. He's done for the year.
jesus christmas crooked christ on a crispy crap cracker what a bad call.
whew!
cards win.
good night and good luck.
Don’t look now but the Dodgers haven’t lost (5-0) since Albert showed up. They really needed to right the ship and keep things close until the big guns get back. If Albert does nothing the rest of the year he may have helped save their season this week. They stuck him In the 4-hole and he’s had a hand in helping them score almost every game.
It’s nice to see. It’s not three gargantuan home runs for the Boston Braves but it’s a nice finish.
Edit: 130 pitches. He threw 200 or so innings in 91 and 93 and 221 over the other 6 years of his career, mostly as a starter.
Can they move?
Rays 29-19
Red Sox 29-19
Yankees 28-19
Set up a zoom call with a friend who has the Nats game playing in the background. Then have your father tell his friend to shut up and move his head......
His son pays for the cable. :-)
In other news, howzabout Lefty with the miracle for the ages.
oldest player ever to win a major was old Tom Morris in 1867 - until Julius Boros broke the record at age 48 a mere 101 years later.
we wait another 53 years and Phil, who turns 51 shortly, shatters another gray ceiling.
he pretty much escaped a mosh pit as he, and most of the population of South Carolina, advanced to the 18th green en masse.
well whatever happens today, i don't think i will be upset. much.
just got back from meeting with a patron who bought a couple of my paintings, righting the ship for the month.
so i see the game is scoreless in the 4th but the Chic manager and bench coach have been ejected? what happened.
oh jeez, now bader wastes a leadoff double with a TOOTBLAN into a double play ...
with his speed, he didn't need to have a giant lead to score if the ball got over the infield.
instead, the 2B makes a great grab of a liner, and fires to second catching bader trying to get back.
and now we follow with a double and a walk, and wainwright batting.
well he's gonna swing away, he hit a ball pretty hard earlier, so maybe something can happen.
i ... am speechless. the cubs aren't going to challenge that call? wow.
did they forget the force was on? the guy caught the ball with his foot on the bag, anybody could see it.
oh well ... it looks like we're going to blow this anyway ... jesus.
cubs getting help from the umps now.
this has been a very frustrating inning.
so we get a gift call with runners on 1st and 2nd, wainwright batting. he bunts to the pitcher, who throws to third. the throw pulls the 3B off the bag, he goes to tag the runner and the ump calls the runner safe.
the 3B not only had his foot on the base when he caught the ball, but when he did a sweep tag he caught the runner on the toe sliding in. the replay was really easy to call. but the cubs did not challenge. bases loaded, nobody out.
so the cardinals promptly follow with a grounder right to the 2B who throws out the runner at home on the force, then goldschmidt pops up.
arenado batting.
arenado strikes out ... holy cr@p what a wasted opportunity.
Then when the bunt does get down, he must have gotten a horrible break because with his speed (a young SS, he's gotta be fast, right?) he should have made third easily and was only safe due to an umpire's gift.
Then on the GB to second---not hard hit, a couple bounces---again he was out at home by a healthy margin when you'd think he'd be getting a good secondary lean and would be blazing home on contact.
Don't know much about him, maybe he's one of those lithe, slender guys who looks fast but isn't.
(he has 37 steals in 500 games in the minors with 23 caught stealing... I'm thinking he's not that fast--although he does have 22 triples in that time frame which is nothing to sneeze at)
this is so effed up.
8 innings of one-hit ball from wainwright wasted. effing wasted.
(they instead bring in Knizner)
And that's understating it, since they're 6-4 against Baltimore and 5-10 against the Rays and Jays. They've yet to play the Red Sox.
The next two weeks will be a tester, with 3 games at the Stadium with the Jays, 4 with the Rays and 3 with the Red Sox, sandwiched around a 3 day road trip to Comerica next weekend. After all that, they'll have only 9 more games remaining with Toronto, only 6 more against Tampa Bay, but 16 more against Boston.
