Light snow for Red Sox @ Twins.

The Cubs* just added yet another player to the COVID list. For those not keeping track, their 1b coach tested positive over the weekend. The team then said everyone else tested negative, everything is good. Yesterday, the bullpen coach** tested positive and the team put 3 guys on the COVID list (it isn't entirely clear whether or not any of them tested positive or just were consider close contacts). Once again, everyone is fine, nothing to see here. Just now, they added Matt Duffy to the COVID list. Maybe I'm taking crazy pills, but I kinda think MLB should seriously think about postponing some Cubs games while this spreads through the team (and not just so I don't have to watch them). There's lots of rumors that there is a significant number of players opposed to the vaccine, so I'm not exactly optimistic that this problem is going to continue getting worse before it gets better.

*who are ####### terrible (for anyone too lazy to click on that, the offense is really bad)

Source indicates Cubs bullpen coach, Chris Young, who tested positive for COVID-19, had gotten vaccine & was only recently two weeks removed from second shot. Belief is he contracted the virus prior to being fully vaccinated. He's showing no symptoms & was diligent w mask-wearing

Where is Howie Rose?

Good lord ... I shudder to think what the Cubs would look like with 10 of their 26-man roster taken up by their AAA dreck. Of course we'll find out in Aug/Sept or sooner anyway.

I sense a long wander through some very bad years.

I am as anti-bunt as anybody, but bottom of the 7th (DH), tie game, first and second no outs, seems like you should bunt.

How does Trevor May have good strikeout numbers? He can't put anyone away.

I kind of support the idea that Nimmo could get to base without intentionally giving himself up. However, it did not work out that way. So, with Diaz having thrown 10 pitches, is he out of commission for the night cap?

And now Hendricks scratched "out of an abundance of caution" because he's not feeling well ... a late-arriving abundance it would seem.

Cubs are 1-12 so far today. It's getting harder and harder to get the team BA (164 entering today) lower but our boys are sure trying.

Some of you might love today's game. Alec Mills is through 4 with 0 BB, 0 K, 0 swinging strikes and only 2 runs. Stop the presses, a leadoff single by Heyward.

Cardinals offense at least is showing up for Flaherty. It's nice to see the ace of the staff get support (especially against another ace like Strasburg)

carpenter getting a curtain call for his homer.

that's nice of the fans, but i hope it doesn't motivate the nats or anything ...

Giolito v. Bieber is going about as you would expect. Scoreless in the top of the 7th.

The Giants' casters are so bad, I want to kill myself !
How can you have been a professional and talk such crap !?

Cards lucked out and faced a Strausburg who could barely crack 90 mph tonight. I’ll take it but it was like batting practice tonight.

Fangraphs had an article indicating that the entire Cubs starting lineup is endanger of falling below the Mendoza line in aggregate. That’s quite impressive

Vax up. idiots !

No wonder Giants' casters don't remember anything... old ##### !

Thank God, Buster doesn't need his balls anymore, he has adopted twins !

Well, ####. Down 3-2 to the Royals in the 9th, the Angels loaded the bases with two outs. Greg Holland throws a 2-strike pitch in the dirt. It skips off Salvy Perez and rolls away, and David Fletcher tying run comes in to score ... except the ball hits the Angel batter, bounces right back to Perez, and Fletcher is out trying to get back to third. What a way to lose the game.

How will the Dodgers lose tonight ?

Strasburg also looked rather uncomfortable on the mound. Might be an injury, but since they left him for 4+ innings, it could have been a reaction to the Covid vaccine reportedly recently received by many of the Nationals.

At this point I think Aristides Aquino is on pace for a career of about 120 home runs in 700 plate appearances.
