Not sure why it took so many tries before it posted, but here you go, you filthy apes.

And the Oakland Anonymouses (Anonymice?) win 5-3 over Detroit.

Watched a good bit of the Orioles - Cards series. Orioles looked poised to make a move soon. Their arms were great. Mateo seems like a great player. If they were in the NL central they might compete for a title.

Second the thought about the Orioles' young arms. Unfortunately they're stuck in a killer division.
   5. Walt Davis Posted: May 12, 2022 at 06:06 PM (#6076489)
Not exactly "young" arms. Lyles 31, Zimmermann 27, Watkins 29, Wells 27, Bradish 25, Means 29, Ellis 29 have all of their starts so far. Late-blooming pitchers probably have a better shelf life than similar hitters but it doesn't look like a rotation you build around. The good-performing anonymous relievers are all 27-29 too.

On Mateo -- he's the sort of hitter I thought you hated. Ks a ton, doesn't walk, hits nothing but FBs despite not having the power to hit HRs (even last year). Seriously, that's one of the lowest G/F ratios you'll see anywhere, even worse than Gallo so far this year. He does steal bases which is fun ... yet still has 0 Rbaser in his brief career; also appears to be solid defensively. An average or better glove at SS with speed is always a useful player but he really needs to hit the ball on the ground more and make better contact (or shift some Ks to BBs). He's also 27 so what we see is probably what we get.

I'll agree that so far this year, they've looked pretty solid and might indeed be in contention in a weaker division. But there's also pretty much nobody on the roster with upside so it's hard to see them moving into real contention unless the farm produces a lot of talent over the next two years. (Obviously some guys are currently under-performing and will play better the rest of the year but I mean has real growth potential.) The big positive is Mullins repeating so far; Austin Hays looks increasingly like a guy who will give them solid production for the next 2-3 years. Add Mountcastle, Mateo, Rutschmann (obviously) and maybe Mancini and the O's might have as many as 6 position players that would start on other teams.

Mets today got their 54th infield hit this year - second-best in MLB is 38. Weird, because most of the bats are either in the on-deck for Oldtimer's Day or lummoxes.

they also lead in HBP - 25, I think they said on the radio.

and the streak continues - they have yet to sweep a series, and have yet to lose a series, all season.

Padres nearing deal with Cano. Of course they are.
   8. The Yankee Clapper Posted: May 12, 2022 at 08:21 PM (#6076498)
LeMahieu 2B & Stanton HR in 1st gives the Yankees a 2-0 lead against White Sox.
   9. The Yankee Clapper Posted: May 12, 2022 at 09:13 PM (#6076500)
Judge BB, Rizzo 3B & Stanton HR (#9) allow Yankees to retake the lead - now 5-3 heading into bottom of 3rd. Chicago right-handed Dylan Cease has struck out 8, but he’s already at 68 pitches.

Is it just me or is bbtf "insecure" for everybody?

Anyway, a bad time for me to get distracted by that issue and finishing the setup of my new cheap laptop. The White Sox did something to move ahead 3-2 that I missed. But I did get to see some Uecker knuckleball defense in RF by the White Sox let the Yanks tie it and Rizzo end up at third (the run woulda scored anyway) followed by Stanton skying a "nice try Manfred but here's some launch angle for ya" HR into the RF corner. So 5-3 Yanks in t3.

Higashioka 1B & LeMahieu 2B produces another Yankee run, with HiGas running well for a catcher to score from 1st, possibly assisted by the left-fielder not throwing in the vicinity of the cut-off men. 6-3, heading into bottom of 4th. Cease at 90 pitches, 11K.

I'm getting it too. Just started for me tonight.
   13. The Yankee Clapper Posted: May 12, 2022 at 10:47 PM (#6076511)
Aaron Judge HR (#11) to LF; a respectable 456 feet. 7-4 in 7th.
   14. The Yankee Clapper Posted: May 12, 2022 at 11:28 PM (#6076515)
Aaron Judge’s bases-loaded infield single scores two to restore the Yankees lead. 9-7. White Sox 1st baseman was more concerned with the call at 1st than throwing home.

EDIT: LaRussa now bringing in a lefty (Banks) to pitch to Giancarlo Stanton. Might be a subject of discussion at the post-game press briefing.

EDIT 2: On an 0-2 count, Stanton singles to CF, giving him 6 RBI for the game. 11-7.

EDIT 3: Donaldson HRs to LF. 14-7. Banks still in there for Chi Sox, and gets out of inning.
   15. The Yankee Clapper Posted: May 13, 2022 at 12:01 AM (#6076517)
Judge SF makes it 15-7. The 7 BB by ChiSox pitchers certainly helped run up the score.
   16. The Yankee Clapper Posted: May 13, 2022 at 01:03 AM (#6076520)
Phillies had a 7-1 lead at one point, and still lead 7-3 in bottom of 8th, but allowed the Dodgers to score 4 to tie it up. Must sting a bit.

Yes, BBTF's security certificate has expired, and if you have any safety settings in Chrome, it is throwing up a warning page for EVERY page it loads.
It makes the site pretty much unusable until that certificate gets updated.

I had the warning from last night until now, and I use Firefox.

Same here. I got the first warning just as I was about to gloat over Joe Kelly's meltdown. I only wish Tyler Austin could've still been around to deliver the knockout blow.
