1. Hombre BrotaniOn Mateo -- he's the sort of hitter I thought you hated. Ks a ton, doesn't walk, hits nothing but FBs despite not having the power to hit HRs (even last year). Seriously, that's one of the lowest G/F ratios you'll see anywhere, even worse than Gallo so far this year. He does steal bases which is fun ... yet still has 0 Rbaser in his brief career; also appears to be solid defensively. An average or better glove at SS with speed is always a useful player but he really needs to hit the ball on the ground more and make better contact (or shift some Ks to BBs). He's also 27 so what we see is probably what we get.
I'll agree that so far this year, they've looked pretty solid and might indeed be in contention in a weaker division. But there's also pretty much nobody on the roster with upside so it's hard to see them moving into real contention unless the farm produces a lot of talent over the next two years. (Obviously some guys are currently under-performing and will play better the rest of the year but I mean has real growth potential.) The big positive is Mullins repeating so far; Austin Hays looks increasingly like a guy who will give them solid production for the next 2-3 years. Add Mountcastle, Mateo, Rutschmann (obviously) and maybe Mancini and the O's might have as many as 6 position players that would start on other teams.
they also lead in HBP - 25, I think they said on the radio.
and the streak continues - they have yet to sweep a series, and have yet to lose a series, all season.
Anyway, a bad time for me to get distracted by that issue and finishing the setup of my new cheap laptop. The White Sox did something to move ahead 3-2 that I missed. But I did get to see some Uecker knuckleball defense in RF by the White Sox let the Yanks tie it and Rizzo end up at third (the run woulda scored anyway) followed by Stanton skying a "nice try Manfred but here's some launch angle for ya" HR into the RF corner. So 5-3 Yanks in t3.
I'm getting it too. Just started for me tonight.
EDIT: LaRussa now bringing in a lefty (Banks) to pitch to Giancarlo Stanton. Might be a subject of discussion at the post-game press briefing.
EDIT 2: On an 0-2 count, Stanton singles to CF, giving him 6 RBI for the game. 11-7.
EDIT 3: Donaldson HRs to LF. 14-7. Banks still in there for Chi Sox, and gets out of inning.
It makes the site pretty much unusable until that certificate gets updated.
Same here. I got the first warning just as I was about to gloat over Joe Kelly's meltdown. I only wish Tyler Austin could've still been around to deliver the knockout blow.
