My son is in Binghamton tonight with some friends to see Max Scherzer pitch. Jealous by obligations kept me home tonight

Cub starter Matt Swarmer to date: 97 batters faced, 12 HR. If you prefer, he's given up 20 H, 12 have been a HR. He's only given up 17 R, 14 ER so it's impressive in its way. He wishes he was pitching with April's ball.

EDIT: He turns every batter he faces into Matt Carpenter

Morel Cruzes into second with a double.

If current trends continue, by 2035 every player will be named Contreras. Today's Contreras v Contreras matchup sees Willson 0-2 so far.

For crying out loud, is nobody else watching baseball?

Anyway, in 1980, Nardi Contreras was the first. He didn't make it to 1981.

Jose Contreras arrived in 2003 and represented through 2013.

Carlos Contrera arrived in 2014 and bravely held the line in 2015, gracefully stepping aside with Willson's arrival.

Willson was joined by brother William in 2020, then today's Pirate starter Roansy in 2021 and now Mark Contreras has grabbed 7 PAs (0-6 with a sac fly) for the Twins in 2022.

Cruz Morels an RBI single through the shift, 4-0 Pirates. Juggernaut there in Pitt.

EDIT: Cruz then steals second, throw gets away far enough (roughly 2 miles) that Vogelbach scores from third.

I know that Heyward and Simmons both provide defensive value, and I also know that since they're both on the roster, they'll end up playing in the same game from time to time. But hitting them back-to-back in the lineup sure seems like not scoring on purpose.

Notwithstanding Heyward's 2 hits tonight, of course.

I'm here, watching the Red Sox take on the "only 5 players with an OPS below .600 Tigers(though one is at .607, so could be 6!)" in a nail biting 4-3 game. Story with a 3 run homer and in the top 0f the 7th he just snared at ball for the 3rd out that he had no business catching. He really is a much better fielder than Xander.

Vazquez solo shot in the 7th makes it 5-3 Sox
   9. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: June 21, 2022 at 09:34 PM (#6083178)
Dylan Cease with 5 no-hit innings…but 82 pitches.

Paredes with 3 homers in the Rays game, then got beaned his 4th time up. If that was intentional, that's pretty low brow by NY(I haven't seen the beaning....)

Sox pen keeping it interesting, give up a solo shot to Schoop in the 9th, Sox still up 5-4, Tigers with 3 outs left to make it even more exciting for Sox fans...

Sox get Grossman looking on what was clearly a ball. Lucky call for the Sox

Rangers go to 4 man OF vs Schwarber as well as playing a severe IF shift with the 2B in short RF.

Nolan Gorman with a 2 homerun night. There is a reason he's considered to be probably the best power hitter on the Cardinals.
   15. cardsfanboy Posted: June 21, 2022 at 10:52 PM (#6083191)
Cardinal announcers trying to predict a 3 hr game for him.... If I had a bet, he'll strike out.
   16. cardsfanboy Posted: June 21, 2022 at 10:53 PM (#6083192)
Okay, 4 for 4 day with an opposite field single. I have to love that.
   17. cardsfanboy Posted: June 21, 2022 at 11:28 PM (#6083196)
Final score, Cardinals win 6- 2 Cardinals.
   18. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: June 22, 2022 at 12:34 AM (#6083199)
“He threw 24 pitches two days ago, so he’s probably not available” is not something I would have heard from a broadcaster in my youth.

Ohtani’s 8 RBI effort wasted in Angels 12-11 loss to Royals. I wonder what the record is for most RBI in a losing game?

Jose Contreras arrived in 2003 and represented through 2013.
Contreras was probably MLB-ready by 1995 (his age-23 season), when he made his Intercontinental Cup debut. He struck out 12 men in five scoreless innings of relief.

Rolando Arrojo is another fun one from the Cuban blockade era. He was the best pitcher in Cuba from 1992-1995, defected in 1996, sat out 1997, and surfaced in 1998 (his age-32 season) as an All-Star for the expansion Devil Rays.

It's 8. Ohtani ties Jason Bay (2003/09/19), Mike Epstein (1970/06/19), Lee Thomas (1961/09/05) and Lou Gehrig (1932/09/09). Yay, a silver lining in the dark cloud that is Angels baseball.

Yesterday was the first of nine games in a row for Houston against the Mets and Yankees. My sports pessimist brain expects about 2-7, but they did start out with a nice 8-2 win last night.
Weird to see these single games (Yankees visit Houston for one game on June 30) due to making up games lost at beginning of season.
