Keegan Thompson, 3 HRA in 45 IP, has given up no-doubt HRs to the first two O's batters. That's not what we had in mind.

LeMahieu scorches the first pitch for a single, and then Judge follows with a blast way over the CF fence. Two batters, 2-0 Yankees.

ALL RISE! Aaron Judge HR (#22) to CF (431 feet) follow a LeMahieu leadoff single to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead @ Twins.

EDIT: Stanton solo shot (#12) to LF (445 feet) makes it 3-0.

impossible to believe, but the Twins are 5-22 vs Yankees since 2017.

that's right, the Twins snuck in FIVE WINS in those 6 years - and who remembers any of them?
   5. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 07, 2022 at 08:56 PM (#6080529)
Judge RBI single makes it 4-2 Yankees in 4th.
   6. Howie Menckel Posted: June 07, 2022 at 09:28 PM (#6080537)
it took a long, long time, but Votto has climbed to the .200 AVG mark.

"Reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated," a jubilant Votto proclaimed.

all he needed was a few weeks off with COVID, then a triumphant return to Canada for a series with the Blue Jays to get his HOF mojo back.

One-out single, BB, BB & BB produces another Yankee run. Now 5-3.

Just effing great, the "Phil Nevin effect" has the Angels up 2-0(on a Trout 2 run shot) and it's still in the first. Red Sox fans wish they'd waited another 2 games to fire Maddon....

I'm not sure the Yankees are actually going to lose more then 50 games this season, it's crazy how good they are right now. Thankfully the season is long, with many twists and turns ahead.

Pete Alonso hit in the hand by Darvish, who hit three of the first five Mets, and is taken out of the game. I need Howie to talk me off the self-immolation cliff because I’m feeling like I’m being punished for expressing confidence in the Mets season last night.

Marte also may be hurt after coming up lame after a slide. So this is sort of getting ridiculous.
   11. Howie Menckel Posted: June 07, 2022 at 10:15 PM (#6080546)
heh, thought of self-immolation after just tuning in late and hearing the news. let's wait for the injury reports.
   12. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 07, 2022 at 10:18 PM (#6080547)
"Phil Nevin effect" has not yet extended to the pitching staff, Sox get 3 in the 2nd(and that's including Devers hitting into a DP with a runner on 3rd), now up 3-2
   13. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: June 07, 2022 at 10:39 PM (#6080550)
Just when I noticed the Yanks had left 16 on base with 2 outs in the 7th, Rizzo came through with a 3 run shot to expand the margin from 5-4 to 8-4.

great to see Kevin Mitchell in the stands in SD for Mets game. he did a full half-inning interview, apparently he's getting back to health but he said he hopes to be on the golf course in a few weeks and at the Mets' revival of Old-Timer's Day this summer.

he kept the Mets alive in that desperate 9th inning of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series - then got traded after the season for Kevin McReynolds #facepalm and to the Giants in mid-1987 and was the 1989 NL MVP for the Giants.

there had been vibes that Mitchell was supposedly a bad influence on Gooden and Strawberry - hey, he's black, so?
meanwhile I never heard any evidence of that (people also assumed that Gooden and Strawberry must have gotten hooked on drugs together, which also was false iirc).

but for all of that, Mitchell tonight said he'll "always be a Met" and he raved about how much he learned from Keith Hernandez (who was in the TV booth listening in). heartwarming interview

Keith said Mitchell was that lefty-crushing bat that the Mets had to have - and it was loss. Keith grew up in northern California, and he said that Mitchell at the plate reminded him of another 3B-OF guy, Jim Ray Hart.

he added that he didn't know exactly what he did for Mitchell, but he still hears from him regularly and gets reminded of stuff that Keith had forgotten. interesting dynamic for any workplace - try to help out the new guy and maybe you don't think it's a big deal - until someone talks to that "new guy."

Mike Trout with a homer and a double and... they pull him. He was flexing his left leg after the double, and they yanked him out of the game. His calf injury from last year was his right calf, so hopefully not the same injury. You could hear the stadium go dead quiet when the trainer went out to get him. Hopefully, it's not serious, or this is all the worst possible everything for the Angels.

Trout’s injury reported as left groin tightness. Not sure if there is any benefit to spreading one’s injuries around rather being repeatedly impaired in the same area. Maybe someone should do a study?

He'll be fine as long as he doesn't run out of his Vicks Vap-o-Rub. It makes him feel like a champion!

Cardinals best two relievers are rarely used - on a night when two innings from either or both of them would likely have led to a win, we run another scrap heap reliever out there and piss the game away to the Rays. We had a day off yesterday and neither of them pitched the day before. It's been a common theme all year that our worst relievers are carrying a heavy load and our best relievers pitch once a week and throw very few pitches.

13 in a row.
   20. The Duke Posted: June 08, 2022 at 01:36 AM (#6080580)
The streak stays intact ! Red Sox find a way in 10 innings
   21. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 08, 2022 at 01:41 AM (#6080581)
The "Phil Nevin effect" does not hold fast. Red Sox continue Angels losing streak, Sox in 10, 6-5.
   22. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: June 08, 2022 at 01:45 AM (#6080582)
Now that 13 in a row may seem rare, however the Sox winning in extras is even more rare, I think their record is like 2-8 or something..and that includes this win.
   23. Hombre Brotani Posted: June 08, 2022 at 05:01 AM (#6080586)
Well, that 13 in a row is the longest in Angels franchise history, so, you know, middle fingers everywhere.
   24. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: June 08, 2022 at 09:02 AM (#6080591)
Three more losses, and the Angels' losing streak will amount to more losses than the Yankees have had so far in the entire season.
