Zach Davies got hit hard by a line drive up the middle by Witt Jr. I assume the wife has a contract out on him now.

The clip last night of Freddie freeman talking non-stop to Juan Soto is comedy gold. Juan's just like " huh?"

Gleyber Torres gets his first HR against the Orioles since his epic 13-HR 2019 season. Yankees up 3-0, all runs on solo HRs, with Rizzo & Trevino also contributing. Might want to add some scoring diversity before too long.

Trevor Story another homer, this one a 3-run job, Red Sox up 4-0 five batters into the first inning.

What the hell were the Reds doing there? Cubs up 6-2, runners on 1st and 2nd nobody out in the 5th. Backup backup C PJ Higgins up, Cubs decide to sac bunt. He squares around early, takes the pitch. Squares around early on the next pitch, puts down a perfectly adequate sac bunt, almost right to Votto. Except the 2B was shifted over towards 2B and was breaking to 2B so Votto has nobody to throw to and Higgins beats him to the bag. A single and run-scoring out later, Cubs up 9-2 with a man on and one out.

Trevor Story another homer, this one a 3-run job, Red Sox up 4-0 five batters into the first inning.
With 6 runs in 2 innings, they have already outscored themselves from the 28 innings of the prior series against the White Sox.

just remembered that octogenarian NYY radio guy John Sterling yesterday was raving about how newcomer Marwin Gonzalez was "an accomplished hitter."

really?
now, I did forget his career year of 2017, with a 146 OPS+ in 515 PA.

but since then, what he's "accomplished" is getting consistently worse - OPS+s of 101, 94, 69, 55, and now 47. and at age 33, he may soon accomplish himself out of MLB even with his defensive versatility.

I can't think of another NY/NJ TV or radio booth person in any sport who is that much of a homer. I realize it may play in some markets, but I just hope nobody in the region drove off the road hearing that bit of 'wisdom.'

;)

Looking at the Red Sox box score and I notice this is first time I can remember this year in which no one is sitting below the Mendoza line(now that Enrique has 2 hits and is at .204!)

Mookie with 2 homers already, will get a chance to set the record for most 3 homer games in a career next time up.
   10. The Yankee Clapper Posted: May 24, 2022 at 09:20 PM (#6078351)
Estevan Florial pinch hits for DH Giancarlo Stanton in 7th, with the Yankees trailing 5-3. Must be an injury, although nothing noted during game, or a Covid test result coming in. Yankees are having a bout of that lately.

Gleyber Torres hits his 2nd HR of the game, another solo shot, to bring the Yanks within a run.

Cardinals proving again tonight that they desperately needed another starter this winter. Another game given away simply by having lousy 4th and 5th starters.

With Matz down for the count and Flaherty a month away I'm expecting to see Jon Lester and JA Happ soon

Devers with the oppo homer, Sox going for that score in every inning thing.

If Kike and Story continue to go well, this team will score a lot of runs in the next 120 games.
   13. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 24, 2022 at 10:07 PM (#6078357)
Sox working on more runs in the 5th, still going for that score runs in every inning game. I think that's super rare, but not sure....
   14. Howie Menckel Posted: May 24, 2022 at 10:58 PM (#6078365)
Nats boxscore tonight says Nelson Cruz picked up his 6th steal in his last 6 seasons - blown hit-and-run or something?

he did steal 37 bases in 2009-10 combined, but well that is a while ago - he'll turn 42 in not quite 6 weeks....
   15. The Yankee Clapper Posted: May 24, 2022 at 11:07 PM (#6078366)
After a scoreless 10th, and the Orioles zombie runner scoring via two outs in the 11th, the Yankees rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. Backup catcher Jose Trevino drove in the game winning run, while going 3-for-4, including a HR, with a BB, in what may have been the best game of his career. A win is a win.
   16. Howie Menckel Posted: May 24, 2022 at 11:11 PM (#6078368)
Yankees-Orioles Game 13 of 2022 is tomorrow and it's not even Memorial Day yet, so remember - they only meet 39 more times all season !
   17. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: May 24, 2022 at 11:25 PM (#6078371)
By the end of the game tonight, the Yankees had eight players on the IL** who were all on the roster just a few days ago. And after seeing King over the past few games, apparently their only remaining lockdown reliever is Holmes. Thank God they've built up a small cushion, because that lineup they have now isn't scaring anyone.

** Or in Stanton's case, likely headed towards it.
   18. Howie Menckel Posted: May 25, 2022 at 12:42 AM (#6078376)
Mets trailed 8-2 in the 7th in SF and 8-4 in the 8th, but it's amazing what 6 singles (several of them flukes) and a bases-clearing triple by Lindor can do.

now 10-8 Mets and they are still batting

11-8 as the half-inning of carnage ends after 2 more singles and then a fly out.

   19. The Duke Posted: May 25, 2022 at 01:02 AM (#6078377)
What it is, is exactly clear. It's joc Pederson !
   20. Howie Menckel Posted: May 25, 2022 at 01:18 AM (#6078378)
have never seen that before - one team gets multiple cheap singles in the top of an inning, then the other team gets the same as well.

11-11 as we go to the 9th, as 21 total batters go to the plate in the 8th.

Pederson has 3 HR, 7 RBI, overcoming the 6 RBI by Lindor (so far)
   21. The Duke Posted: May 25, 2022 at 01:33 AM (#6078379)
Down to Diaz/Pederson for the denouement
   22. The Duke Posted: May 25, 2022 at 01:35 AM (#6078380)
Pederson having a day like that preacher in Caddyshack
   23. The Duke Posted: May 25, 2022 at 01:36 AM (#6078381)
Holy #### ! The giants win the Pennant! The giants win the pennant !
   24. Howie Menckel Posted: May 25, 2022 at 01:40 AM (#6078382)
Giants 13, Mets 12 final

it was a crazy game. a little surprised at the Giants indeed celebrating like they just won the WS - but other than Belt and Crawford (and Pederson), not sure anyone else on this team has, so why not.
   25. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: May 25, 2022 at 08:59 AM (#6078389)
Just watched the highlights. Great game if you're not a Mets fan, but what's with those godawful Giants uniforms? Are there really that many idiots who'll shell out for every last replica jersey, no matter how ugly?
