Eloy Jimenez back in the lineup for the White Sox for the first time since April 23.

Jimenez hits a 2-run homer off the Twins' Joe Ryan in his second AB to tie the game 3-3 in the fourth.

The guy hit 31 homers in 468 AB as a 22-year-old rookie in 2019 and hasn't had more than 213 AB in a season since.

While technically true - and also correct about Eloy being fragile - it's still really misleading. In 2020, only 29 players had more than 213 AB because of the shortened season; this year is only around halfway over. So really you're just saying he missed most of 2021.

Cubs won 2 of 3 in MIL, including hanging the L on Hader today (non-save situation).

Eloy added an RBI single, and the Sox and Twins are in the ninth in a wild one, tied 8-8.

another of baseball's hallowed records has (half) fallen, with Brandon Nimmo getting hit by a pitch to lead off the game.
that's Nimmo's 50th career HBP, tied for most in Mets history along with beloved star Michael Conforto (now in the federal government's Witness Protection Program - I'm assuming).
weird part is the Mets in the early/mid-1960s had a solid second baseman named Ron Hunt. later in his career with the Expos, Hunt broke a record for HBP in one season. how many? you guessed it - 50.

Shohei Ohtani's through 6 IP, 2 hits, 1 run (unearned), 8 Ks.
Also, a bases-loaded 2-rbi single.
He's never not amazing.

Ohtani's done for the night as a pitcher. 7 IP, 1 unearned run. In his last 5 starts:
33.2 IP, 16 hits, 7 walks, 46 Ks, 1 earned run, 0.27 ERA.
IF the Angels win, he'll be 5-0 over that stretch. In non-Shohei starts during that stretch, the Angels are 5-14.

Hunt broke in with the 1959 McCook Braves. He was a baseball magnet from the start- 13 HBP in 62 games. One of his teammates was still around in the 80s - Phil Niekro. And another pitched his final professional game in 1997 - Pat Jordan. Though Jordan was working on about 13000 days of rest.

LeMahieu’s 2-run single, and solo HRs by Donaldson, Gallo & Higashioka have the Yankees up 5-0 in Pittsburgh, now in 7th.
EDIT: Worth noting that Matt Carpenter is getting a start in RF tonight.

the royals are giving the astros a much tougher time than either the yankees or mets did. christian javier no hits the yanks, 1 hits the mets, then the royals hit THREE homahs offn him - five runs over only 5 IP. the royals starters have outpitched the astros starters all 3 games. it is the royals bullpen that has let em down. that MJ melendez guy is gonna wally pip salvy perez
Aaron Judge gavels a Grand Slam to LF (419 feet), HR # 30, to extend the Yankees lead to 9-0. He also has a single, double, BB & SB tonight, for a pretty good day’s work. That HR also gives Judge the AL lead in RBI!
EDIT: Donaldson SF makes it 10-0, causing Pirates broadcasters to muse about possible unwritten rule violation.
Position Player Pitching Alert: Pirates 2nd baseman Josh Vanmeter now on mound, his 3rd pitching performance of the season, causing some lamentations from Pirates broadcasters that this was being done in a home game.
EDIT: Hicks Grand Slam & Stanton solo shot make it 15-0, and produce “THIS IS A JOKE” response from Pirates broadcaster.

Those Pirates announcers were also complaining all night about bad calls by the HP umpire against the Pirates' pitchers, almost none of which were actually in the strike zone, but when they got gift strikes they just seemed to accept it as their due. They're low key and inoffensive but I haven't heard TV announcers like that since the days of Hawk Harrelson, kind of like a mild mannered version of the late Celtics announcer Johnny Most.

Dodger swingman Mitch White has a no-hitter through six, but Jose Urenas, making his first start as a Rockie, has almost matched him with a two-hit shutout through six.
Check that: The game is entering the sixth, not through six.

Seriously ... I know you can't sub everybody but why is Stanton still hitting against a position player? At least bat lefty. Throwing batting practice to Stanton without a screen is genuinely dangerous.
Let's update the unfortunate Pirates blowout board:
0-21 Cubs
0-16 Yanks (Pirates still batting, hope I've jinxed the Yanks into a 17-run inning)
2-19 Brewers
4-18 Cards
5-14 Cubs
1-11 Dodgers
0-9 Cubs
0-9 Cards
1-9 Cards
16 is only the 2nd most runs they've given up in July. 57 RA in their last 7 games, 30 scored ... naturally they are 4-3. At least the Cubs are a half-game ahead now.

After a Bryant walk, Brendan Rodgers singles to center and that great Dodger defense ends up throwing the ball into the stands. No-hitter over, shutout over, Rockies lead 1-0.

I will reprise my observation that all the scolds who couldn't watch another pitcher at-bat - including a Colon or deGrom HR, zero pleasure in that - really should double down on this rampant batters pitching abomination.
this is obviously much more of a joke/travesty.

I agree. There has been way too much pitching by position players this year. Really, managers, you need to protect your 13-man pitching staff (not to mention the extra 5 hurlers you have on a shuttle from AAA—you know, the guys who only throw 94.)

current MLB leaders in HR
Aa Judge 30
Schwarber 27
Judge bats 2nd in the NYY lineup, while Schwarber mostly leads off. I suspect if these guys wind up pacing each league in HR, that a pair of 1-2 batters has accomplished that before.

In the past I thought hitters at least tried to throw on the mound. I remember guys like Paul O’Neill and Chili Davis throwing 90 or st least close to it. A guy like Mark Grace throwing 65 was the exception. Now it seems like they all come in to throw ephus pitches. Even a guy like Brett Phillips, who is capable of throwing 90, establishes the fastball and then lives by the ephus.
