Yankees leading the Blue Jays 5-2 after 7, with Gleyber Torres driving in all the runs, including 3 on his 361-foot HR to RF. That may, or may not, satisfy the distance-scolds, although it appears that any such objections are never reflected on the scoreboard.
   2. Tom Nawrocki Posted: May 11, 2022 at 02:59 PM (#6076296)
I'm seeing various reports that Torres' ball would have been a home run in either six or seven major league ballparks. In either case, he is, as Joe DiMaggio put it, "lucky to be a Yankee."

Aroldis Chapman gives up a run in 9th, but gets the save as the Yankees win 5-3, making them 22-8 on the season. That’s a .733 wining percentage, good for ~ 119 wins if maintained over the full season.

Guardians @ White Sox postponed due to multiple positive Covid tests in Cleveland traveling party, including Terry Francona & other coaches. Seems like some were tested because of symptoms, and they now need to test everyone to figure out who can play.

Reds get six in the bottom of the 8th to grab a 14-5 lead on the Brewers.

top of the 9th begins:
HR
1B
HR
3B
1B, pitcher is yanked
2B, to complete a cycle
K (!)
2B to make it 14-11

fasten those chin straps, Reds fans !

UPDATE: The Reds win 14-11
   6. Walt Davis Posted: May 11, 2022 at 04:47 PM (#6076315)
Who got the cycle?

Luke Voit with his first HR of the year (59th PA) gives Padres a 2-1 lead over Cubs. Cubs run came on a Contreras HR, price going up by the day!!

Tuned in to see Logan Gilbert dominate. Grand slam. Figures.
   8. salvomania Posted: May 11, 2022 at 05:13 PM (#6076324)
Who got the cycle?

I think he meant a cycle for the half inning.
   9. AndrewJ Posted: May 11, 2022 at 06:17 PM (#6076341)
Phillies starting pitcher today was Bailey Falter. Belongs on an all-time Phils rotation with Randy Lerch, Bob Walk...
   10. Tom Nawrocki Posted: May 11, 2022 at 06:27 PM (#6076342)
The Brewers' triple in the ninth completed a cycle for Christian Yelich.
   11. Rob_Wood Posted: May 11, 2022 at 06:55 PM (#6076344)
I was hoping it was Willie Falter.

Trevor Story with his first of many home runs for the Boston Red Sox, Sox up 2-0.

Boy, you are really clinging to this one like an angry, old dog with a bone.

No one suggested the homers don't count, only that the RF porch in Yankee stadium is a bit short. Good idea for NY to build a team and encourage their players to utilise that, I think it's great and smart management.
   14. Howie Menckel Posted: May 11, 2022 at 08:05 PM (#6076357)
Mets' Tylor Megill REALLY doesn't have it tonight.

allows a 5-run first inning, then serves up a batting practice pitch to the rotting corpse of Nelson Cruz - who wallops it 436 feet for a 3-run tater. 8-3 Nats but this one is by no means over.
   15. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 11, 2022 at 08:10 PM (#6076360)
Eovaldi, who was cruising, gives up a single up the middle, then next pitch just grooves one and now Sox up 3-2.
   16. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 11, 2022 at 08:17 PM (#6076361)
Olsen with another double(leads league), drives in Swanson, now 3-3. Eovaldi wheels have definitely fallen off. He was beguiling for 2 innings, but now not fooling anyone.

13--it's a schtick, we all have them one way or another; you, for example, name yourself after an exceptionally witty play on words involving the membrum virile...
   18. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 11, 2022 at 08:26 PM (#6076364)
ump in the Sox game has called like 5 pitches clearly off the plate as strikes already, it's a big zone
   19. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 11, 2022 at 08:35 PM (#6076365)
Xander boots one, which they call a hit. No way, ever is that a hit; it was clearly an error.

No matter to the result, the runner left stranded.
   20. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 11, 2022 at 09:17 PM (#6076373)
bases loaded, 2 outs, 3-2 count and the ump rings up Plawecki on strike 3 on a ball that was at least 3 inches low, at least. A really, really bad call in a really critical part of a 3-3 game.
   21. The Duke Posted: May 11, 2022 at 09:29 PM (#6076375)
Question. Given that the NL had 1/9 of their order being unable to hit for 50 years, were there more no hitters/perfect games in the NL during that period ?
   22. Hombre Brotani Posted: May 11, 2022 at 09:36 PM (#6076377)
Taylor Ward pinched a 2-run homer 8th, and it’s a whole new ballgame in Anaheim.
   23. The Duke Posted: May 11, 2022 at 09:53 PM (#6076388)
Cardinals are beginning to substitute offense for defense knot their lineup with Donovan and yepez getting regular turns. DRS can only take you so far.
   24. Rally Posted: May 11, 2022 at 09:55 PM (#6076390)
Taylor Ward drives in Tyler Wade.

Say it 3 times fast
   25. Snowboy Posted: May 11, 2022 at 10:26 PM (#6076391)
It's easy!
Taylor Ward drives in Tyler Wade!
Taylor Wade drives in Tyler Ward!
Tyler Wade drives in Tyler Ward!
See, I did it!

8-3 Nats but this one is by no means over.
I was there, and can attest that it ended 8-3 Nats.
   27. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 11, 2022 at 10:42 PM (#6076394)
Red Sox lose another game in the 9th inning or later. I think that's 8 so far this season. The team needs better fungible relievers. I'm really starting to see the merits of having a good closer...

Quite the opposite. There have been 14 perfect games since the introduction of the DH, and 9 of them were in the AL. In the 72 years before that, there were only 8 total, including Larsen's in the World Series.
