The Pirates offense over the last 3 games (26 innings): 1 run on 8 hits ... and of course the run scored in a game with no hits.

Take it back over 6 games and it's 6 runs on 24 hits. To their pitchers' credit, they did win 2 of those games. (To their pitchers non-credit, they gave up 7+ runs in 3 of those games). Over those 6 games, they're hitting 140/214/205 although the K-rate is just 26% (not good but not horrific). Looks like a 200 BABIP. And it's not like they've been facing the mid-90s Braves rotation, they've been shut down by Connor Overton, Tyler Mahle, Hunter Greene, Wade Miley and Keegan Thoompson.

Red Sox getting a decent start out of Pivetta, they cannot afford to waste these rare and most precious events. Up 3-1 in the 4th. Devers and Xander doing their thing, the rest...not so much.

Dalbec miraculously gets a SF. Why anyone throws him anything other then offspeed is beyond me. He has no chance of ever hitting any decent offspeed stuff

Sox with a bloop single, then another single, get 2 more, up 5-1 in the 4th.

Another BS "review" where the obvious wrong call is not overruled by the umps after reviewing the video evidence.

With two on and one out, an inside pitch from Jordan Hicks hits the knob of Pete Alonso's bat, and the HP ump calls HBP. Cards challenge, and I'm watching the Mets feed as their announcers see the ball obviously strike the knob and not Alonso and say "that's a foul ball, strike one."

But no, the umps say the call stands, and now it's bases loaded. Huge swing.

bugger, bases load and JD grounds into the DP. Little bit of a wasted chance to pile on there...

smart tactic by the Cardinals: Scherzer hits one of their batters with a changeup, then Hicks drills Canha in the midsection.

that leads to a warning from both benches, so Cards take the freebie and that's that. well played, I guess.

Red Sox with new groundbreaking tactics; if SP looks good, leave him in for 7-8 innings!
Pivetta goes 8ip, 1ER, 102 pitches. Fungible relievers are boring!

Wow, Pivetta goes the full 9, complete game. Sox avoiding using the pen; good, maybe they'll win some more games.

Uh oh, mid-at-bat to Pujols in the 6th inning, Scherzer throws a pitch and immediately signals he's done, and takes himself out of the game.

if someone told you that MLB had banned bunting, you might say, "That's not true - is it?"

:)

well, the Mets' Guillorme goes all 1970s with a "safety squeeze" bunt down the first base line with 1st and 3rd and 1 out. all the Cardinals could go was get the out at first.

I may save my Scherzer comment for the "self-immolation thread."

Scherzer throws a pitch and immediately signals he's done, and takes himself out of the game.

I haven't seen it, but that's not good. A guy like Max would really know his own body and limitations and if he thinks there's an issue...then there is. Hopefully nothing severe.

Cardinals induced Mets into two infield flies in a row. That has to be rare.

With bases loaded in bottom of 9th, and 1 out, Marlins Jazz Chisholm hits SF to right to tie the game 4-4. But hold on, Nationals appeal that Jesus Sanchez left 3rd early, and the ump agrees. Double play, game over. Hold on again, Marlins appeal, and call is overturned after 4-minute review. The initial MASN view seemed to show he left early, but it may be that they didn’t sync up quite right. On to extra innings.

Mets led 6-4 in bottom 8 and planned to use Diaz in the 9th, so he wouldn't be available for the Thursday matinee, alas
except Mets get 5 in the 8th, so now red-hot Diaz will be available to deck the Cards in less than 24 hours.

Just watched this SF play in Nats-Marlins, so hard to tell. Can't believe they could overturn call on field

After today's game, the Cubs and Pirates have played 9 times this year. The Cubs have outscored the Pirates 51-22... and are 4-5 in the series.

Another brilliant C. B. Bucknor game. I've lost count of the bad ball/strike calls.
   19. Hombre Brotani Posted: May 18, 2022 at 11:33 PM (#6077441)
My god. What a brutal road sweep for the Angels. The last two games were easily the worst losses of the season.

05.18... Max Scherzer told reporters after Wednesday's game that "I don't think it's a major strain" when asked about the severity of his injury.
Spin: The star right-hander was removed from his start in the middle of an at-bat in the sixth inning after summoning the training staff to the mound. He was diagnosed with left side discomfort and is set to undergo additional testing including an MRI on Thursday. While it's encouraging that Scherzer doesn't believe the injury to be serious, let's wait and see what the imaging has to say before jumping to any conclusions.
