A week with multiple teams off on Labor Day, a routine holiday doubleheader for most BITD, now has multiple teams off on Wednesday, where midweek series normally reside. 2020 is different.

Multiple teams have been off for holidays for a few years now. Basically part of the CBA. Players want time with their families too. There were only 12 games on Labor Day last year; 14 on Memorial Day. Only 12 on July 4, only 13 on July 5.

Yu Darvish looking uncharacteristically shitty so far.

OF Travis Demerrite handled 9th inning duty for the Tigers today, allowing 4 runs in a 19-0 loss.

he retired both Yelich and Braun while allowing 2 bombs.

White Sox announcers, who are among the best, going apeshit over the umpire not allowing Gio Gonzalez to use a gray glove, and they even quote the rule disallowing it. Their rationale is "It's 8-0, who cares?" Jeeze. What is the minimum run differential to allow the defense to violate the rules?

Braves 16, Marlins 8 after 4 innings.

all three two-point conversion attempts have been successful.

and now the Braves have added a field goal in the 5th to make it a "two-score game."

Marlins reliever Yamomoto has allowed 12 runs in 2.2 IP - but to be fair, only 10 are earned runs.

Think about what Roberto Clemente was doing... didn't he die ?

Please focus on the game and not on people who did stuff in the past and then died. Thank you.

Braves added another FG in the 5th for a 22-8 lead.

Yamomoto final line: 2.2 IP, 13 R, 11 ER, 11 H, 2 BB, 3 K

Tony Kemp is a hobbit, his hitting a ball off the wall is probably the furthest hit ever.

I am all good with bad calls versus the cheating Arsetros.

Yamomoto final line: 2.2 IP, 13 R, 11 ER, 11 H, 2 BB, 3 K

Hey, the Red Sox could use some pitching and it sounds like Yamomoto will fit right in!

Mets had one foot in the grave tonight, down 5-1 to BAL, but rally for a 7-6 win.

EDiaz - who was 2 for 6 in SV tries in spite of more than 2 K per IP - closes the door.

also, another FG for the Braves in the 6th as they now lead the Marlins by three scores at 25-8.

Acuna has 6 RBI in his last two AB

Adam Duvall now has 8 homers in the past 8 games (including two 3-homer games), and 9 in the past 10 games.
   16. flournoy Posted: September 09, 2020 at 11:31 PM (#5975515)
Duvall tied Tony Cloninger for the team record for RBIs in a game!
   17. Howie Menckel Posted: September 09, 2020 at 11:41 PM (#5975517)
Duvall with his 2nd three-HR game in about a week, now has 13. also drove home 9 runs tonight

29-9 final

COKES for my failure to post what I had written in timely fashion
   18. Walt Davis Posted: September 09, 2020 at 11:45 PM (#5975518)
Surely at least a dozen unwritten rules were violated in that Braves-Marlins game. Braves made only one positional substitution -- somebody's never been so insulted!
   19. flournoy Posted: September 09, 2020 at 11:51 PM (#5975519)
No conflict whatsoever during the game. Due to disgusting modern-day roster construction, the Braves only have a three-man bench, anyway. Not much substituting to be had.

29-9 final

There were five MLB games in which the losing team scored at least nine runs, yet lost by 20 or more: all of them in the National Association. The biggest margin was 25, when Baltimore beat Brooklyn, 39-14, on October 5, 1872.

(Previous) largest margin since 1876: 18, in an American Association game in 1887 (Louisville 27, Brooklyn 9) and in a Players' League game in 1890 (Philadelphia 30, Buffalo 12).

(Previous) NL record: 16 (Pittsburgh 27, Boston 11) in 1894.

(Previous) post-1900 record: 15 (NY Giants 24, Pittsburgh 9) in 1925.

AL record: 14 (Toronto 24, Baltimore 10) in 1978.

Coming into 2020, there have been (including the NA) 4,079 MLB games in which the losing team scored at least nine runs (including 44 tie games, and seven games in which the losing team actually scored more runs, but forfeited!)
   21. Where have you gone Brady Anderson? Posted: September 10, 2020 at 08:36 AM (#5975532)
So, which is more impressive, winning 29-9 or winning 19-0?
   22. AndrewJ Posted: September 10, 2020 at 08:47 AM (#5975533)
The Braves' #5, 6 and 7 hitters went a combined 8-for-12... with 15 runs scored. You don't see that everyday.
