HOW WILL THE ANGELS WIN TODAY?!

That's right, I said it.

HOW WILL HALF OF THE TEAMS WIN AND THE OTHER HALF OF THE TEAMS LOSE TODAY?!
   5. TomH Posted: June 25, 2019 at 03:37 PM (#5855780)
stat of the day:

As of yesterday morning (when I pulled the stats), the best team ranked by WPCT were

1 Dodgers .684
2 Twins.. .649
3 Yankees .636
4 Astros .620
5 Braves .590
6 Rays... .577
7 Cubs... .545

But if we rank the teams by a simple {OPS of offense} minus {OPS allowed}, we get this:
1 Dodgers 173
(gap)
2 Astros. 141
3 Twins.. 127
4 Rays... 109
(gap)
5-8 very close: Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Braves

The Rays have played a much harder schedule than the Twins to date, so it looks like the bestteams are Dodgers #1, Astros #2, virtual tie for 3rd Twins/Rays. Obviously if the Yankees get fully healthy their ##s would be better

HOW WILL THE NATIONALS DREDGE UP YET ANOTHER PITCHING RETREAD TODAY?!

By calling up Jonny Venters and Fernando Rodney. Yes, it's 2011* again!!

*or earlier, even.

Fun fact: Fernando Rodney is the last (only) active player to have been born in the 1970s.

What is the preferred method of nabbing a single ticket for cheap to a Marlins game these days? Is StubHub still A Thing or have they become just another outlet for MLB/TicketMaster/whomever? TNX.

The Marlins web site is still charging Good Team prices to watch a sh|tty team.
   9. Nasty Nate Posted: June 25, 2019 at 04:14 PM (#5855794)
I assume StubHub will be less than face, especially on day of the game. Only would take a few clicks to check a listing...
   10. Bote Man Posted: June 25, 2019 at 04:49 PM (#5855808)
Yeah, the Marlins want $80 for dugout seats that are asking $60 on StubHub. I was mainly asking if there have arisen better alternatives. I was hoping for a deeper discount.
   11. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 25, 2019 at 05:00 PM (#5855819)
Chad “Iron Man” Green will start for the Yankees tonight, despite throwing 16 pitches yesterday in emergency relief of the since-optioned Jonathan Holder.

I'd guess that so few people buy tickets in the first place that the secondary market is not great for buyers because of the lack of supply.

E.G., there's probably not pros or wannabe-pros who buy a bunch of Marlins tickets with the intent of selling for a profit later.
   13. Bote Man Posted: June 25, 2019 at 05:26 PM (#5855829)
Interesting, if obvious: the Marlins seating map shows 4 seats unavailable for sale by them which exactly match 4 seats in that row for sale on StubHub. I thought MLB was using StubHub as a clearinghouse to sell at least *some* seats that would otherwise go unsold, so they'd appear on both sites, but I guess that would be logistically unworkable for teams actually in demand.

DJ LeMahieu , ordinary night again.

Oh my.

Clayton Richard - Not so good.

LOL, what a retarded inning after the 2 HRs.
   19. rconn23 Posted: June 25, 2019 at 07:40 PM (#5855858)
Gleyber Torres will be the Yankees best player by the end of the season. He's on pace for almost 40 HRs at age 22.

Max Scherzer station-to-stations his way around the bases and finally comes in to score on a Juan Soto single to RF along with Eaton. 2-0 Nats T3.

Black eye update: it is fading, but still noticeable.

Are you like totally dumb ? Yes.

The Bombers need better baserunning coaches. ASAP.
   27. Bote Man Posted: June 25, 2019 at 08:10 PM (#5855867)
Miguel Rojas had just stepped back in the box and brought his bat up to his stance when Max quick-pitched him, he swung at it, then the HP ump Estabrook immediately jumped out waving his arms for time-out. Max complained because he easily snared the come-backer, but I guess umpires can call time-out even AFTER a guy swings these days.

Ronald Acuña Jr. has led off 108 times in his career.

In 108 plate appearances leading off games: .304/.343/.716, 12 HR

Ronald Acuña Jr. now has 12 leadoff home runs in his career. Already tied for 73rd in MLB history. He's only 21!

It's funny watching how fsmw has changed their tune as the season has moved along... in the early season, it was very clear that there was a mandate from the powers that be, that the announcers were supposed to minimize Ozuna's positives, and accentuate his negatives (he's a free agent to be...and struggled last season) since his game has returned, it's hilarious how the announcers are now praising him to all levels.. in an effort to get the fans to support him so that they will cheer more for him, and try to get a hometown discount.... it's blatantly obvious what they are doing, and it's sad that they are using the announcers to do it.

Nice job, Cubs - a rare Double TOOTBLAN on a bunt attempt to go from second and third, one out to inning over, pitcher leading off the next inning. Bravo.

sorry, but people don't change their opinions that drastically without someone directing them to.. They spent the first 8 weeks of the season bad mouthing Ozuna, talking about his lack of effort, talking about his lack of power etc... and now they talk about how he's the first guy in the stadium, working his ass off etc.. .seriously... the first 6 weeks of the season, they did nothing but find fault with his effort...now they praise his effort.
   37. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: June 25, 2019 at 08:40 PM (#5855880)

This is the "Huh?' part. It's not nearfetched. let's put it that way.

This is the "Huh?' part. It's not nearfetched. let's put it that way.

I simplified it for a chat.. The point is that they now want the fans to support him, so that he doesn't feel alienated, and might sign a reasonable contract with the team... "hometown discount" is not the correct term... the point is that they now want to pursue him as a free agent, and after spending the first 6 or so weeks trying to get the fans to accept that there is no reason to sign him, they are now focusing on signing him, so they don't want the fans to turn on him.

In the first six weeks of the season, it was clear(and yes if you go back and read some of the omnichatter's I said as much) that they were trying to make both Ozuna and Fowler look like guys that the team don't want to pursue or keep. The announcers would find minor ass bs reasons to bag on Fowler or Ozuna that nobody else on the team would get called out on.

   41. Walt Davis Posted: June 25, 2019 at 08:55 PM (#5855886)
More likely ... producers at FSMW decided that (enough of) their viewers would respond positively to some Ozuna-bashing that this is what they told the announcers to do. Of course FSMW always knows that enough of their fans want to hear players having good seasons be praised ... plus good old school "RBIs are the bomb!" ... so now they praise Ozuna. When the RBIs start to dry up, he'll probably be at the front of the line to be scapegoated. The Cards and the dreams of a hometown discount probably have nothing to do with it.
   42. rconn23 Posted: June 25, 2019 at 08:56 PM (#5855887)
Well, the Yankees let a guy with a 7.12 ERA get away with a "quality start."
   43. rconn23 Posted: June 25, 2019 at 08:57 PM (#5855888)
Steven Tarpley in to pitch the seventh in a one-run game. Aaron Boone, ladies and gentlemen.

maybe...and again. the hometown discount term was incorrect for me to use.. my point was that they were trying to get the fans to accept that they weren't going to sign ozuna, and it was a "smart" decision...and have changed their mind on that strategy as they now hope to sign him.

Anyone besides me having trouble with BBREF? It's been up and down, mostly down, for the last 3-4 days. Sometimes pages load quickly, but more often they take forever, or don't load at all.

I've got this crazy conspiracy theory that announcers sometimes say good things about players that are playing well, and bad things about players that are playing poorly.
   49. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 25, 2019 at 09:33 PM (#5855902)
Short porch parrot walk makes it 4-2 Yankees, with all the Yankee runs on solo HRs.

Bummer for Alzolay, who misses qualifying for the win by one out.

He made it two more outs than last time. It'd be nice if Alzolay can work his way up to a 6-7 inning pitcher, but a guy who can pitch 4 solid innings every 4th or 5th day is certainly a guy that a team should be able to get good use out of. And hopefully Montgomery can strand the bases loaded here and help Alzolay out (even if he can't get the win, it'd be a shame to see his ERA blow up after he's out of the game).
   52. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 25, 2019 at 09:40 PM (#5855906)

Nope. I s-canned that idea. I got a late start on errands today and by the time I got back I realized it was hotter than h3ll and I just didn't feel like driving all the way down to the Orange Bowl. I kind of regret it now that the game is in the books: Max was on fire, plus Miguel Rojas was amusing with his antics. It just takes a lot to motivate me these days.

Along about the 8th inning(?) Miguel Rojas was chirping at HP ump Mike Estabrook from the dugout, got ejected, then came charging out to the mound to make his points quite forcefully, all while Mattingly restrained him by the scruff of his uniform. Then Mattingly got ejected. It was almost like George Brett charging out when he got run for pine tar, with less energy.

as a Cardinal fan... I keep waiting for actual evidence that Shildt is a good manager... as it goes right now, he's been Red Schoendist version two... a manager that does nothing, gets credit for success, and doesn't get blame for failures, because he isn't actually doing anything. (outside of his atrocious bullpen management, yet nobody seems to call him on that)
   61. phredbird Posted: June 25, 2019 at 10:57 PM (#5855925)

geez, i turned my back for ten minutes ...
   62. cardsfanboy Posted: June 25, 2019 at 11:01 PM (#5855928)
There is a very real possibility the Cardinals will have a worse record after 93 games this season than they did last season... but heck we are stuck with this boring ass team going forward because we made a panic move last season. This team has fully embraced the managers personality. No passion, no desire, just workmanlike attitude, but let's throw skill and excitement away.
   63. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 25, 2019 at 11:22 PM (#5855929)
The wheels seem to have come off for Blake Snell, last season’s AL Cy Young Award winner. Gave up 11 hits & 7 earned runs in 3.1 innings tonight, and now sports an unseemly 5.01 ERA for the season. Barring a big comeback, he’ll fall to 4-8, and the Rays will trail the Yankees by 6.5 games.
