HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!

It may be time for Wander Franco (although it's probably time for Taylor Walls).

I guess its not illegal to post links to reddit. Here's the hilarious ending to a KBO game the other day:

It seems as if the entire remaining "original" AL West is afflicted by a curse, in one way or another.

The A's - "that stuff doesn't work in the playoffs"
The Mariners - Johnson, Martinez, Buhner, Ichiro, Griffey Jr. - still no WS
The Angels - 'nuff said
The Rangers - more than enough said

Meanwhile, the carpetbagging "cheatin Stros" are in 1st place or near it every year, and the White Sox have won a WS and are at the top of the standings, all since escaping the original AL West.

What's strange is that, well, these teams have had sometimes good and sometimes not-so-good management, but you wouldn't think they would all have problems for so long together (though the A's problems are of a different kind).

The Rangers - why couldn’t Nelson Cruz play no-doubles defense better than that

Or as McCarver said “ The Rangers, even in their no-doubles defense, allows Freese......to hit a double”

One of my favorite analyst quotes of all-time.

Am I only the one who had no idea that Scott Kazmir was on the verge of making a comeback to MLB?

Or as McCarver said “ The Rangers, even in their no-doubles defense, allows Freese......to hit a double”

Even worse, it was actually a triple.

I feel like this could have been posted in just about any of the last, oh, 12 years?

That ball has to be caught, Edman with a double to short centerfield.
   10. cardsfanboy Posted: May 21, 2021 at 09:25 PM (#6020171)
Carlos Martinez is pitching pretty good, if you ignore the hit by pitches.

If I heard the YES broadcasters correctly, tonight’s White Sox @ Yankees game is the 1st in MLB history in which both starting pitchers struck out at least 10, and left the game without walking anyone or giving up a run. Doesn’t seem like it should be quite that rare, after all MLB goes back further than all of us, even Andy.

Now 1-1 in bottom of 8th.
   12. cardsfanboy Posted: May 21, 2021 at 09:48 PM (#6020174)
Carpenter is apparently not totally washed up, single as a pinch hitter.
   13. cardsfanboy Posted: May 21, 2021 at 09:51 PM (#6020175)
NL eventual ROY with a single to put men on first and second with one out for the Cardinals.
   14. cardsfanboy Posted: May 21, 2021 at 09:54 PM (#6020176)
Goldy with an rbi double. Men on second and third one out and Arenado at the plate, there is no way you pitch to Arenado here, you have to walk him and face Yadi with the bases loaded. Arenado is just red hot right now.
   15. cardsfanboy Posted: May 21, 2021 at 09:55 PM (#6020177)
yep, the predicted intentional walk. There was no reason to even waste a second on that, but Yadier is pretty good with the bases loaded.

White Sox get 2 on, nobody out on Chapman in the top of the 9th, and the Yanks then pull off a 5-4-3 triple play! Still 1-1 going into the bottom of the 9th.
   17. cardsfanboy Posted: May 21, 2021 at 09:56 PM (#6020179)
Well not that time, weak ass foul out.
   18. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: May 21, 2021 at 10:02 PM (#6020180)
Judge, Urshela and Torres get back-to-back to back singles for a walkoff 2-1 Yankees win. Best game of the year. Torres also got them their first run with a solo homer.
   19. cardsfanboy Posted: May 21, 2021 at 10:07 PM (#6020181)
uggh.... not a good appearance by the reliever.
   20. salvomania Posted: May 21, 2021 at 10:43 PM (#6020183)
Arenado with already his 5th error of the year, this one particularly distressing, loading the bases with nobody out.

He made 3 errors in 48 games last year, and 9 in 154 games in 2019.
   21. salvomania Posted: May 21, 2021 at 10:46 PM (#6020184)
With the bases loaded and nobody out, in a one-run game, Cardinals bringing in a guy with the staff's highest WHIP (2.50) and the lowest K rate among relievers.

And he is greeted, predictably, with a base hit.
   22. JJ1986 Posted: May 21, 2021 at 10:49 PM (#6020185)
Holy #### what are the Marlins wearing?
   23. salvomania Posted: May 21, 2021 at 11:00 PM (#6020187)
According to the Cubs' broadcasters, the Cardinals have walked in 12 runs this year---no other team has more than 6.

EDIT: Now 9-3 Cubs, still batting in this sh!t show of an inning.
   24. salvomania Posted: May 21, 2021 at 11:08 PM (#6020188)
Cardinals finally escape the 8th inning, after the Cubs score 8.

Two of the three outs were runners thrown out on the basepaths.
   25. Brian C Posted: May 21, 2021 at 11:16 PM (#6020190)
Are the Cards announcers always this disgusted with the team? Granted, that was a pretty brutal inning for them, but I don't think I've heard TV announcers who sounded like so morally offended by a baseball team before. Sample exchange:

ANNOUNCER 1: "The Cardinals have now issued 13 bases loaded walks this season. The record? 18."
ANNOUNCER 2 [as if told that his daughter's rapist was released from prison]: "The Cardinal Way."
   26. EddieA Posted: May 21, 2021 at 11:20 PM (#6020192)
Miggy may get 500 home runs after all.
   27. Walt Davis Posted: May 21, 2021 at 11:39 PM (#6020194)
Holy #### what are the Marlins wearing?

Holy #### you ain't kidding. Red and blue go together but not that red and that blue.

Edit: looks like a funny logo on the helmets, maybe a NeL uniform?
   28. Walt Davis Posted: May 21, 2021 at 11:45 PM (#6020197)
That Cubs-Cards was a very sloppy affair but the right team won. Cubs tossed a squibber away, Rizzo booted one, Cards infield made a couple of bad throws (and Goldschmidt saved them another and there was at least one other where I couldn't believe a throw was made), Arenado booted one, etc.
   29. The Duke Posted: May 22, 2021 at 12:08 AM (#6020204)
That was the first and hopefully only cardinals game with such lousy defensive play all season. Arenado singlehandedly caused that loss. Two incredibly costly errors both because he took his eyes off the ball before he caught it. They could have beaten Hendricks tonight with a little kick and instead got blown out. I’ve been impressed by his abilities but man he makes a lot of errors

. . . what are the Marlins wearing?
Those uniforms are in homage to the Havana Sugar Kings, Cuba’s International League team from 1954-60.
