#7. So, I guess MLB shouldn't ever allow a game to be played in Europe. They don't allow unrestricted mail in voting because it's too easily corrupted. And MLB will have to sever any relations with Amazon. It didn't want to have mail in voting as to whether to create an employee union because they said it's too easily corrupted. The mental gymnastics you have to go through to decide that limiting mail in voting is racist is comical.

Unpopular take: The Nats should either have to call up replacements or forfeit. If ten guys broke their legs in a weird (and, given the number I chose, illegal) play, they wouldn't just get to postpone the series.

The mental gymnastics you have to go through to decide that limiting mail in voting is racist is comical.

I remember when Republicans were trying to expand mail-in voting because it was more democratic, back when mail-in voting skewed Republican. That was, what, 10 years ago? 11?

yeah this wasn't the start I was hoping for against the O's. I'm only listening not watching but making contact seems to be a challenge for them today.

The Jays-Yanks game yesterday was exciting. I forgot about the ghost runner rule and wondered what I'd missed when the Jays drove in a run immediately in the 10th.

Ghost runner rule is fine if you bring it around the 11th or 12rh innings. Putting it in place in the 10th is too early. I like extra frames but not six extra frames.

What I've learned in watching bits of two CWS-LAA games ... Luis Robert is a larger unit than I expected.

What I've learned paying attention to a small bit of the TB-Mia game ... Jaz Chisholm is a speedy one. He also has sno-cone blue hair.

Agreed. I think the 12th would be ideal. 82% of extra innings games end by the 12th anyway so you'd still have most end in the usual fashion AND avoid the possible 19 inning, position player pitching, 6 hours snorefest.

However, super long extra inning games were tolerable when 9 inning game times were only like 2:20

The White Sox just intentionally walked Pujols in b8 with two outs, Trout on second.

EDIT: Pujols was IBB'd once in 2019 and once in 2020 so he's gotten it out of the way early this year.

EDIT2: Flyball to deep CF so it "worked."

Gary Sanchez hits his 2nd HR of the season, a solo shot, to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead over Dunedin. He’s on pace for 162 HRs in a season, but I don’t think he’ll play every game.

It's Bruce's 34th birthday today. Maybe the Yanks got him cake, but because of covid he can't share it with the team, so maybe they pulled him out mid-inning so he could eat it alone.

he gets a HBP in a 6-2 game in the 4th inning with his team ahead, then comes around to score on a WP off some rookie STL long man.

he gets up and flexes over the prone P who had tried a diving tag, almost WWE-style - and then, for major bonus points, backs away like a coward as the benches clear.

looked like a potential melee, or even a donnybrook - but cooler heads prevailed.

whoa, an aftershock in the OF, but another crisis averted.

still catching up: Molina pointed his finger right at Castellanos. and after a couple of minutes, Molina appeared to be explaining the "facts of life" to a seemingly chastened Castellanos - who had his hands behind his back somewhat submissively.

ok, maybe he just overreacted and right away realized that he blew it. fair enough.

interesting: highlight showed that Castellanos had an Opening Day HR and combined an "extended skip" with a bat flip. so I guess he knew that he might have gotten plunked for that (was 2 outs and nobody on at the time today).

Castellanos ejected after the umps reviewed his "signature move)", and his manager spoke to him calmly while he did nothing but listen. #downwarddog

apparently the COVID protocols remain in place, so quite a few players will be lighter in the wallet. they get to be the guinea pigs to prevent more of this. no punches thrown, but let's just lots of "inappropriate social distancing."

First start of the year, tis traditional to take it easy on the SP. Granted that used to mean not making them throw 140 pitches, now it means don't make them throw 100 but what ya gonna do? I figure in a couple of years, the Rays will go with a bullpen day on Opening Day.

Brewer-Twin game, two outs in the ninth and Yelich fouls one that hits the catcher in the thigh then the ump in the throat. As the Brewer trainer is checking out the ump he suddenly seems to have some kind of seizure and collapses.

EDIT: After a couple of minutes the trainer is back on his feet but he’s not steady.

The young man is 28, FYI. First signed in 2011 by the Nats.
He had to go independent for a year in 2014. He’s had a long, hard road.

He ranked T389-395 in 2020 Statcast footspeed, so about 15 percentile of all players.

Ranked only above Alex Gordon for slowest LF.

Oh speaking of footspeed, didn't Snapper or someone say that last year's statcast footspeed numbers seemed to be a couple feet lower than usual? That was really odd. Was there any explanation of that, other than: "Covid."

When I see pitchers getting pulled from no-hitters simply because they've thrown 84 pitches or teams starting extra innings with a free runner on second base, I start to understand why really old people look at the prospect of death and say, "I'm ready to go"

Vlad, Jr. has a long way to go to be even an average MLB 1st baseman defensively. Gave up early on a pop-up behind 1st that the 2nd baseman never go to, as well as bad footwork throughout the series.

Cardinal announcers are in mid season form.

Carpenter is on third, Edman is on second, advanced on a wild pitch, two pitches later it's two outs and a full count so McLaughlin goes "runner on first will be off with the pitch, the runner is Tommy Edman."... the camera on the field pans to the shot that shows the runners on base and it's clear there is nobody on base. ... McLaughlin " .... Edman is actually on second... "

Meanwhile the Reds catcher probably just picked up a full war by baseball prospectus as he pulled a ball into a called strike to end the inning.

Cardinals pitching is rounding out nicely... I think their collective era is near 10 right now.

Sad thing is that both Flaherty and Martinez actually pitched pretty decent for a bit, just couldn't survive the dreaded third time through the order bit. No clue about Waino, who just sucked in his first performance.

I still do not get why this team insists on Molina playing every inning of every game.

You know, Cardinals, it would be nice if you can avoid giving up two singles followed by an extra base hit every inning (or walk or hbp or whatever... It seems every time the reds hit an extra base hit there are men on... 9 hits 12 runs)

Not really a fan of Nogowski so far, he failed to advance from first to second on a potential passed ball, and then on second with a give me fly ball to center, he failed to advance. The other team is up 12 - 1, they aren't going to be taking chances and will play safe, you on the other hand need to not be. In theory he should be on third with 1 out in two different situations and yet is on second.

??? Cardinal announcers talking about the upcoming series with Miami, and apparently Miami (and I'm assuming whoever they played) had an off day today??? I honestly do not know that I have ever heard of a scheduled off day on Sunday... Generally I tell people that when baseball season starts, that Friday, Saturday and Sunday are absolutely guaranteed to have a game, that Tuesday and Wednesday are extremely likely to have a game, if not guaranteed, and it's only Monday and Thursday that are up for looking at the schedule.

Stephenson (The Reds young catcher) is very good at framing. Just stole another strike.

I have no clue what his rep is, but it looks like he's a legit bat(for a catcher) , so it's unusual for him to be a good glove.

he most poorly played exciting game in recent memory and I don't know if it matters which. I'm ecstatic the Angels won, not happy with the sloppiness, excited about Ohtani, and nervous about many things, including the defense, the relief pitching, and Joe Maddon.
