Original Nats’ battery mates Chad Cordero, Brian Schneider throw out first pitch before World Series

The pitcher and catcher who got the final out of the Nationals’ first game at RFK Stadium in 2005 threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Friday night’s game against Houston.

When the Nationals asked former closer Chad Cordero and former catcher Brian Schneider to throw at the first pitch at Game 3 of the World Series, the two men had a problem.

The team wanted them to wear an original jersey from the 2005 season when baseball returned to Washington. The same ones they wore that memorable April 14, 2005 night at RFK Stadium.

Except Schneider had no idea where he stored his jerseys. And Cordero knew most of his were in framed glass cases. The two men schemed and Cordero had an idea: Their parents.

Cordero was also the last Expos pitcher in the last game in Montreal. Einar Diaz was the catcher however, Schneider sat out that game.

No Wil Nieves?

Who??

Brian Schneider was the catcher on 14 April, 2005 the very first real game back in D.C. which is what this ceremony commemorated.

I'm really, REALLY bummed that Fox TV didn't show the ceremonial 1st pitch last night.

One of my Nats tweeps was seated in the same section as Chad, deep down the RF line; I guess good seats were at a premium even for the team. "Please do us this favor and then we'll stick you in Outer Mongolia to watch the game. THANKS!" Never change, Nats Promotions.

Fox found time to show Buzz Aldrin’s ‘unofficial’ first pitch - although I don’t recall it being described that way - which was little more than a badly done commercial for a commercial. First pitch honors should be baseball-related with strong local ties. Game 1 met the criteria, although the execution was flawed. Some of the other games don’t come close.

Does Fox still seat the actors of its new potential-hit show at the game? I haven't noticed that yet, but I've been half watching the games or sleeping through them.

No Wil Nieves?

Who??

I remember Wil Nieves primarily for being the final out victim in Randy Johnson’s 300th win on June 4, 2009. He also had a catchy walk-up song.

Oh and I guess his first Major League home run was a walk-off shot against the Cubs.

You had to be there, Terry.
