Orioles announce family-friendly time changes to their regular season schedule

The Orioles announced significant changes to their regular-season schedule Thursday, making it more family-friendly during non-summer months.

According to Joe Trezza, the Orioles will start at 6:35 p.m. ET for games that occur before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. Home games during the summer will retain their 7:05 p.m. ET start time.

Major League Baseball saw a record 3:05:35 average run time for games in 2019 despite changes made before 2018 to cut mound visits without pitching changes.

Mind you, with how the team has been lately, will a half-hour change really make that much of a difference in attracting fans?

Probably not, but, now those families that need to leave by 10 will be able to stay through 6-7 innings instead of 5. :-)

To think that games once started at 8:30 and were frequently over by 11:00. That's hardly a sure thing today for games that start at 7:00.

I don't understand this change: with the Os last season the game was usually over early enough to get the kids in bed by eight! *rimshot* Thanks, I'll be here all week, stick around for the ten o'clock show, and be sure to tip your wait staff.

I approve of this news.

The Red Sox used to do 6pm starts in the naughties. At the time I was working downtown and it was awesome. Leave work at the usual time, stroll to the field and get there for first pitch. Working outside the city makes that earlier start a bit trickier but it’s a good thing I think.
