Moura would have gotten called for a late hit in the NFL for that play.

Announcers just said that Burnley have had one shot on target in their last 3.5 hours of game time.
   1103. Mefisto Posted: December 28, 2019 at 03:46 PM (#5911425)
And it was a game winner.
1104. AuntBea calls himself Sky Panther Posted: December 28, 2019 at 03:50 PM (#5911426)
It's actually 1 shot on target in 4+ hours now, since their second to last on-target shot came in the 66th minute against Newcastle.

Dortmund sign Haland.

Dortmund sign Haland

I guess they figure if they can't stop anybody they might as well try to score 4 goals a game.

Wolves deserve that for being so whiny about the clearly right call on the first goal.

So close on that offside call, and it's pretty stupid to have the game called this way. But Wolves are hardly the first to suffer from it.

Leeds beat Birmingham 5-4. Never trailed, but had to retake the lead 3 times, including once in the 95th minute after a Brimingham equalizer in the 91st.

Leeds face West Brom on new year's day. Both with 51 points, well above 3rd place Fulham (42) and both now quite likely to be in the EPL next year.

edit: next best bets for promotion are Fulham and Brentford. Coming into the season I think Leeds, Fulham, and West Brom were the favorites, so their presence is no real surprise. Brentford has looked good in spurts the last couple years, but haven't really been close to putting it together.

Liverpool looked a bit shaky at the end. Again. They might have been outplayed in the second half. But of course held on for the win.
1111. AuntBea calls himself Sky Panther Posted: December 29, 2019 at 01:56 PM (#5911574)
Wolves officially had no shots in the first half, because the goal was called back by VAR for the closest of offsides. Second half was a different story, where Liverpool did almost nothing offensively and Wolves had a half-dozen fairly decent looks.
   1112. Richard Posted: December 29, 2019 at 01:57 PM (#5911575)
Sheffield United screwed by VAR yet again at the Etihad. And they’ve missed other chances. 0-0 at the break.
   1113. Richard Posted: December 29, 2019 at 02:11 PM (#5911577)
And of course, City score after the ball hits the ref and play is not stopped, and VAR does nothing.
1114. AuntBea calls himself Sky Panther Posted: December 29, 2019 at 02:34 PM (#5911582)
They said the ball didn't hit the ref, though he did clearly affect the play. I'm not sure whether VAR can really overturn that.

All nine of the preseason expected 9 are in the top 9 of non-penalty xGD (understat), except woeful Arsenal (11th). The only interloper is excellent Sheffield United (8th). Top 4 in non-penalty xGD are all from the preseason top 6, with only Tottenham down at 9th, and Arsenal at 11th.

Same story in xPoints, which factors in pens and OGs, except that Southampton also sneaks in above Tottenham.

Very similar story at FBRef.

Moyes back to WHU.

Did they change the rules? The ref has always been in play.
1121. AuntBea calls himself Sky Panther Posted: December 29, 2019 at 09:00 PM (#5911639)
Yes. The new rule is that if the ball hits the ref play is stopped, I think. Definitely stopped if one or the other team loses an advantage, in which case it is given back to the team that lost their advantage.

New drop ball procedures
Another key change involves the match officials. If the ball hits a referee and possession changes, the game will be stopped and a drop ball will be used to return possession to the team originally in control of it.

Technically that rule didn't apply here because the ball didn't hit the ref.

FYI, I submitted a new thread but may have screwed it up in some way. So there's that.

Kane is set to have surgery on his injured hamstring and won't return to training until sometime in April.

Which he'll probably rush back from to get playing time ahead the Euros.
