Richardson looked like a stud, the offensive line and running backs were solid and Napier basically nailed the small handful of big calls he had to make. I suspect that run defense is going to lose them a game or two down the road, but this definitely feels like a game that raises the floor on the season, if nothing else.

Well, we knew the defense would be a bit thin, I think. Will worry about it later, though. They just beat a top-10 team in The Swamp in their head coach's first game. It's all good as far as I'm concerned tonight.

no dog in the hunt but...
I flip to see Fla St up 24-17 with I think 1:20 left and down to the 1-yard line.
they toss a pitch back to a RB because - what could go wrong, amirite?
oh, fumble on the 1-yard line - did not think of that.
LSU promptly goes 98 yards against the (win) prevent defense, OB with 1 second left.
endless time wasted - most logical explanation is the booth guys had already left to hit the bar and had to be summoned back. finally..... one more play.
LSU TD !
and OT once this extra point.... wait it got blocked and FSU wins 24-23 !
if I gave a single #### about either team or had even a 5 dollar wager on the outcome, I might be hyperventilating.
damn, 4-5 more months of this?

My only regret this weekend is spending any amount of time watching UGa/Oregon, and instead not continuing to watch App St/UNC. But otherwise this was a fantastic college football watching weekend - lots of fun, close games with wildly varying levels of fourth quarter stupidity in each one.

It miraculously didn't come back to bite him in the ass, but I couldn't believe Kelly allowed FSU to run four offensive plays inside four minutes before calling his first timeout.

That Trevor Lawrence was splitting time from the outset was indicative that Kelly Bryant was on borrowed time, so I'm curious what we glean about Uiagalelei's position by how much non-garbage-time action Klubnik gets tonight.

I'm sincerely impressed that you found anything in this game that could conceivably be considered interesting.
The Utah/Florida and Notre Dame/Ohio State games the other day convinced me more than ever that these neutral site games to start the season are an abomination. Play college games at campus sites!
I don't suspect Georgia Tech is really capable of scoring two touchdowns in the last 13-ish minutes of the game, so it's mostly irrelevant, but great job burning all of your timeouts with 13 minutes to go, Tech.

I really like Gus, so it pains me to see UCF losing to the likes of Louisville. That is, uh, not a game they should have lost.
Also, if your passing game is completely ineffective, and you're ripping off five and a half yards a pop on the ground, your run:pass ratio should not be anywhere near one.
That has to be a dead-ball foul if they're calling it. It's not a personal foul unless the play was over, in which case it's after the safety was recorded.
App St. has 3.3 yards per rush, but they have been moving the chains despite that. 21 first downs. 3 for 4 on 4th down too. No turnovers. Only 5 possessions for A&M in the first half, and only 4 so far in the second half.
Not an easy feat to pull something like this off, but occasionally it works out.
Yards per carry just went up a lot, which makes me a tiny bit sad. At least he went out of bounds, so Texas A&M will end up with only 9 possessions. What a game for App. St.
Those NIL boosters in College Station can't be very happy right now.

Hey, for some years, Idaho was a Sun Belt school.
LOL Notre Dame.

Another terrible kickoff return, although at least no penalty this time. Love Napier, but maybe insisting on the return instead of a fair catch is not a hill we need to die on.

Oh and also - damn Dan Mullen for making me fear Kentucky. This is not something I ever had to worry about before he came along - even when the Gators played like #### against UK, I knew God would bail them out with some miracle or another.

Man, Ventrell Miller activated beast mode on that UK 3-and-out. That was the best defensive possession I think the Gators have had since maybe 2016 or so.

Just catching up on the day, Wisconsin lost to Washington State? I thought last week was suspiciously upset-free, but all hell breaking loose today, even with Alabama surviving.
I understand that 3rd and 17 with your backup quarterback isn't an ideal situation, but I think you can do a little better than lining up with two tight ends and running the ball right up the middle. Throw a screen or something -- at least give yourself a chance to get into field goal range.

Well, Richardson hasn't been too sharp throwing the ball so far, but that completion to Henderson was beautiful.
That's a frustrating series. Zanders probably has 10+ yards on the first down pass if it's an accurate throw (and he should have caught it anyway for five or six yards) and Henderson should have caught the third down pass for a conversion (though Richardson probably didn't need the Spencer Strider fastball there).

Starting to think that maybe the Gators' D can be exploited by tight ends in the passing game.
Couple of protection busts have really bailed out the Florida defense so far.

Yes, but also - a key difference I'm seeing between the Grantham defenses and this non-Grantham defense is that they now seem aware that a screen pass is a thing.

For a week that everyone was ragging on for terrible games, it's been really, really entertaining so far. All I have to regret is that I couldn't watch App/TAMU, Pitt/Tennessee, and El Assico all at once.

Ah, but the test will be how they respond when LSU runs a counter play.

Pitt fails to convert a 4th-and-goal from the 20 in OT, giving Tennessee the win.
Always happy with an SEC win against the ACC (ahem, Brian Kelly), but now I guess it's up to the Gators to knock the Vols down a peg in a couple weeks. Their fans are getting a bit salty for my taste.

So the basic shape of this game seems to be that the Gators have no room to run, but their receivers are running wild and Richardson can't hit them consistently. Could easily be on our way to a blowout right now, it seems, but for the Gators effing around.
Richardson is really spraying the ball all over the place tonight. Not getting a ton of help from his receivers, but he's still wildly inaccurate right now.

Wouldn't normally care for that handoff on 3rd-and-25, but Richardson is obviously on the verge of throwing a disastrous INT. Probably best just to get that possession over with and regroup.

3 for 4 on 4th down too.
Wish Texas had attempted a couple of those 4th and shorts instead of taking the field goal. App State seemed to know they needed to take some chances to get the upset.
Jimbo and his merry band of NIL 5-stars mustered up 186 yards against the Mountaineers.

I gotta say, this one could knock "The Fighting Irish" down as low as No. 20 in the rankings.
I think that's the lowest they are allowed to be rated; I can picture voters trying to send in an electronic top 25 without Notre Dame and getting an "ERROR" screen rejecting the ballot for that reason.

1) The reverse flea flicker
2) ... idk, the blocked field goal?

We'll slot that in at #2.
