Notre Dame had 10 men on the last *TWO* plays of the game, coming out of a timeout
Utah promptly moved down the field, aided largely by penalties -- though you can only benefit from pass interference one way -- before a bad snap made it 3rd-and-goal from the 23 and Barnes threw a pick. Oregon State subsequently scored on a 4th-and-1 pitch when Utah lined up to stop a sneak, and that was that.
Rising cannot get back soon enough.
Relatedly and perhaps paradoxically, I feel like someone needs to let Napier know that the Gators aren't actually all that great at running the ball.
But man, so many games in 1.5 years that they've shown up and not just been ready to play. UK last year, UGA last year, Vandy last year, the Oregon State bowl game, Utah this year, and now UK again this year. It's really making it hard. I can be patient with the lack of talent - we all knew Mullen left the cupboard bare. But I have to be honest, I feel like we were promised a big improvement this year in discipline and tenacity, and that's not what we're seeing. And it's looking more and more like Napier is just overwhelmed than it does a slow but steady improvement.
Yet, they've decided to let Leary throw 12 times for only 36 yards - he's looked terrible with almost every throw, and even threw an easy pick-6 that the Gators defender just dropped. Not a stretch to say that their insistence on staying with the passing game is the only thing keeping Florida with even the 8% chance of winning that ESPN's tracker still gives them. The Gators should probably be down by 30 right now, honestly.
But Duke only has itself to blame for missing a free shot at Hartman in the end zone at the start of the drive and rushing three on 4th-and-16 after forcing panicked heaves with blitzes the two previous plays.
And, y'know, for willingly giving up possession of the ball in the first place for the sake of 25 yards of field position.
