One hell of a 4th quarter

I think with 3-4+ seconds you can't onside there, but with 2 it's clever. There are a lot of times Alabama recovers with 0:00 on the clock.

I also am not sure about that pick play for the TD. But maybe college rules let you block for a pass before it's thrown?

As bb-ref's Sean Forman noted, the proper defense for Alabama on that last play would have been to mug every receiver. Half the distance to the goal would have been a nearly meaningless penalty and the time would have run off the clock. That would have left Clemson the choice of kicking a field goal and going to overtime or having one play to win or lose the game. (Kind of reminds me of when the NYG played extra guys on defense in the Super Bowl a few years back because a 5 yard penalty was far less meaningful than the time off the clock the play took)

Is there some obvious reason why football stilll lacks a straightforward "on defensive penalities inside X minutes, no time shall come off the clock" rule?

On the defensive PI call on the next to last play; it was ruled to have occurred in the end zone which put the ball on the 2. If it had been ruled to have occurred in the field of play, the penalty would have been half the distance and the ball would have been placed on the 4 and a half, possibly changing everything. I did not think it occurred in the end zone.

All in all a poorly officiated game both ways with way too many reviews of obvious plays especially the onside kick which seemed to take much longer than necessary.

It would've been a spot foul, and the grab happened around the two.

Not a spot foul in college I don't believe. 15 yards from the line of scrimmage and in this case, since the line of scrimmage was the 9, half the distance. I am fairly sure about that.

It's a spot foul with a 15-yard max, not 15 yards in all situations.

The Film Room feed with the panel of coaches is archived on ESPN3. Really good.

That Baylor stuff is awful, and just highlights how horrific PSU's situation was, since none of this even comes close to systematic coverup and facilitation of child rape.

Jim Delany: "I still don't know how Ohio State was ranked sixth last year, by the way. They were ranked sixth behind a divisional runner-up."
