Even if Championship Week is the third week in December.

ND has a chance to beat Clemson this week. It would nice if they didnt squander it this time.

No Trevor Lawrence?
   4. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: November 07, 2020 at 12:11 AM (#5987648)
I'm bewildered by years of mediocrity under Sitake suddenly exploding into what seems like legitimate awesomeness.
   5. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 12:41 PM (#5987672)
The Florida-Georgia game will surely be the biggest news event to occur today.
   6. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: November 07, 2020 at 02:46 PM (#5987685)
Michigan's season started with "Get a load of this running game," and then immediately pivoted to putting games in the hands of what appears to be a pretty bad quarterback.
   7. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 03:42 PM (#5987690)
Well. OK then.
   8. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: November 07, 2020 at 03:43 PM (#5987691)
USC was down 27-14 in the final three minutes, got a tip-drill touchdown, recovered an onside kick, and has just hit a seam route against double coverage on 4th-and-9 from the 21 to go ahead with 1:20 left.
   9. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 03:45 PM (#5987692)
Damn, Gators on pace to lose 2100-0.
   10. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 03:47 PM (#5987693)
Welp this isn't the start we wanted.
   11. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:02 PM (#5987694)
Over the course of seven plays, Georgia has:

- Utterly fooled UF with a big shift and converted that into a 75-yard touchdown run
- Rushed to the line of scrimmage on third down and forced a Florida timeout
- Completed a 30+-yard touchdown pass
   12. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:04 PM (#5987695)
The good news is that the Gators are only on pace to lose 257-0 now.
   13. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:05 PM (#5987696)
"Okay, folks, we're not going to show this replay again"

*proceeds to show replay like five more times*

Man, that was a brutal injury.
   14. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:09 PM (#5987697)
Hey now we're on pace to lose 114-57.
   15. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:10 PM (#5987698)
OK, now get a defensive stop and we're back in business.
   16. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:13 PM (#5987699)
Evan McPherson has a great leg but ... is not much of a tackler.
   17. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:13 PM (#5987700)
That's Pierce hurt, right? That's not good. I know the Gators have a bunch of backs but IMO Pierce is by far the best.
   18. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:15 PM (#5987701)
Holy crap they stopped Georgia on third down.

After Bennett fumbled a normal snap. But it counts!
   19. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:16 PM (#5987702)
Hey, see, we can get stops on 3rd down! All we need is for the 4th string QB to fumble a perfect snap.
   20. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:16 PM (#5987703)
I moved to Montana over the summer and I'm watching this game while some of the biggest snowflakes I've ever seen are coming down out the window. It's mesmerizing and I credit it for keeping me calm during the first few minutes of this game.
   21. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:18 PM (#5987704)
Malik Davis is becoming a genuinely great pass catcher.
   22. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:21 PM (#5987705)
So far I'm impressed by the Gators being able to run the ball for consistent positive yardage. Maybe not 75 yards a pop, of course, but they spent a lot of years with no ability to get anything against strong defensive fronts. So it's nice to see.
   23. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:22 PM (#5987706)
UF's had some great receivers during my time as a Gator fan, but I don't know that they've had a receiver as consistently uncoverable as Pitts -- just a "I don't care if he's surrounded, chuck it to him and he'll make it work" kind of guy.
   24. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:22 PM (#5987707)
It's so nice to have the safety valve of "if nothing's just open lob it up high to Kyle Pitts."
   25. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:24 PM (#5987708)
God damn I hate that QB keeper play.
   26. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:24 PM (#5987709)
ALL RIGHT KIDS, WE HAVE OURSELVES A BALLGAME
   27. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:35 PM (#5987711)
Have to say, it's nice to have an offense that doesn't make a 14-0 first quarter deficit to Georgia feel like the game's over.
   28. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:40 PM (#5987712)
Welp, there's that over-frisky Trask INT that we're always worried about.
   29. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:41 PM (#5987713)
UF's hurry up offense succeeded in confusing...UF's offense.
   30. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:45 PM (#5987714)
That Wright completion was just completely perfect.
   31. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:46 PM (#5987715)
Campbell did everything but wear Pitts' jersey on that play and it didn't matter.
   32. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:50 PM (#5987716)
That two-play drive really takes the sting out of the pick-six.
   33. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:51 PM (#5987717)
I love wheel routes. When you have time to throw them, they're very elegant-looking plays. I love them even more when UF is getting 50 yards out of them.
   34. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:53 PM (#5987718)
Mullen's been scheming the running backs open all season.

i feel the same way about texas routes, and not florida.
   36. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 04:56 PM (#5987720)
That's the kind of play where you feel the loss of Jake Fromm, unspectacular as he was: give Fromm an open receiver and he would hit him. Bennett did everything right, then he just wildly overthrew an open guy and gave the ball back to Florida. You can go a long way in the college game just by not screwing up the easy things.
   37. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:00 PM (#5987721)
Ouch that targeting looked ugly for everyone involved. Hope Pitts is okay, but that was a dangerous throw.
   38. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:03 PM (#5987722)
Gene Steratore trying to defend the UGA defender on that targeting play, and I agree that he probably wasn't trying to do anything "dirty" ... but that is textbook example of a targeting play. A well-deserved ejection, I feel, even if he probably concussed himself and wouldn't be coming back anyway.
   39. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:04 PM (#5987723)
Is this the first time I've ever heard Kemore Gamble's name? Seems like it is. The number of playmakers for the Gators is seemingly endless.

ETA: 10th career reception, 1st TD
   40. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:05 PM (#5987724)
Hey the backup tight end is in - it isn't Kyle Pitts so we don't really need to cover him, right?

I will say, this game has been WAY more entertaining than I expected.
   41. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:05 PM (#5987725)
Until Georgia proves they can stop it, just run the all-wheel route offense.
   42. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:07 PM (#5987726)
Haha our tight ends are better than yours.
   43. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:08 PM (#5987727)
Gators standing strong with their "Rely on drops and overthrows" defense.

Maryland, behind Tua, oops, Taulia Tagovailoa, is kicking the PSU Nittany Cuba’s butts 28-7 at half. Maryland has 337 yards offense in the first half. I’m glad that our cable company doesn’t carry the big ten network.
   45. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:10 PM (#5987729)
Toney's stuff really isn't working against Georgia.
   46. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:11 PM (#5987730)
Toney is doing waaaaaay too much dancing around. If he commits to reversing his field and sticks with it, he might have had something.
   47. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:12 PM (#5987731)
Toney is doing waaaaaay too much dancing around. If he commits to reversing his field and sticks with it, he might have had something.

Agreed, and it makes me wonder if his foot is bothering him, i.e., hurts to push off so he's hesitant to do it.
   48. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:13 PM (#5987732)
....I'm not even going to say it.
   49. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:13 PM (#5987733)
Why?

Why do we do this?
   50. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:14 PM (#5987734)
Running game is really effective today.

Run the clock down, score at the end of the half, take the ball to start the second half and you can seize this game by the throat.
   51. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:17 PM (#5987735)
That was a curious call on third and nine. I assumed Mullen was planning on going for it on fourth, but nope.

Of course, Evan McPherson gives you a lot of leeway on those sorts of calls.
   52. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:17 PM (#5987736)
That was disappointingly conservative. But nice kick.
   53. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:19 PM (#5987737)
Contra Danielson, I doubt Pitts' injury had anything to do with that call, it's not like they're lacking receivers. I think Mullen just outsmarted himself, and thought he could catch UGA off guard with the run play.
   54. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:23 PM (#5987738)
LOL at Nessler and Danielson saying that the punter "knew it right away" after he shanked it, as if there's any way that he wouldn't know right away.
   55. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:28 PM (#5987740)
Trevon Grimes, saying, "Hey, I'm tall too."
   56. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:28 PM (#5987741)
Also: holy crap, they just scored 38 in the first half against Georgia.
   57. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:29 PM (#5987742)
Hard to come up with superlatives to describe the Gator offense right now. This rivals any of the Spurrier/Meyer teams.
   58. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:30 PM (#5987743)
Also: holy crap, they just scored 38 in the first half against Georgia.

And they did it despite biffing a possession with a pick six!
   59. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:51 PM (#5987746)
That replay of the Franks-to-Cleveland Hail Mary to beat Tennessee reminded me that there was a time, not so very long ago, when Brandon Powell was the Gators' go-to guy and big play receiver.
   60. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:53 PM (#5987747)
Yeah I don't miss Franks, obviously, but I'll never get tired of that play. In a vacuum, maybe the greatest play in Gators history.
   61. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:55 PM (#5987748)
Twitter's been on Danielson's case anyway, I think that "man in a wheelchair" comment could get the haters pretty riled up.
   62. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:56 PM (#5987749)
I don't want to whine too much about playcalling (again, 38 points in one half), but when you're getting 15 yards every time you drop back, I don't really understand running the ball on first and second down.
   63. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 05:59 PM (#5987750)
Man McPherson is out there just kicking bombs.
   64. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 06:05 PM (#5987753)
Just want to give some props to the defense after this INT. After the Bulldogs' first two possessions, who would have guessed that they'd only have 6 total first downs by this point in the game? Job well done to regroup, guys.
   65. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 06:18 PM (#5987755)
Danielson can talk all he wants about Georgia not panicking and going away from their offense, and that's fair enough, but down 20 with five minutes to go in the third quarter you need to do something pretty awesome to come back. A series of five-yard runs and careful passes isn't getting it done.
   66. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 06:25 PM (#5987756)
I'm not a huge believer in the meaning of "body language", but I've rarely seen a player who looks less like they want to be there than Mathis. I don't know if he just has Resting Sad Bastard Face or if he's actually as despondent as he looks when a play doesn't work, but I'm not sure he inspires a lot of confidence out there.
   67. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 06:46 PM (#5987761)
Bench McPherson, bring in Chris Howard.
   68. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 06:48 PM (#5987762)
Well, let's check out the score:

Trask overthrows: 1
UGA overthrows: I dunno, in the millions by now probably
   69. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 06:51 PM (#5987763)
Serious question: what's with all the slipping and falling today? I know it's been raining, but I've never seen so much sliding around by both teams as in this game. And it's not like I've never seen a Gator game being played in the rain. Did everyone not change cleats or what?
   70. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 07:06 PM (#5987766)
Okay, I think after that throw, you just hand it off a couple times and let Trask settle down. That could have been disasterous.
   71. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 07:07 PM (#5987767)
...or you could find Toney wide open for a big first down. That works.
   72. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 07:09 PM (#5987768)
Meanwhile ... FSU is getting doubled-up by Pitt. It's really too bad they don't play this year, would really be nice to get a creampuff on the schedule as a warmup for Alabama.

ETA: Other than LSU, I mean.
   73. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 07:10 PM (#5987769)
Safe to say Trask lost a bit of focus with a big lead in this second half, yes?
   74. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 07:16 PM (#5987770)
Yeah, even with Pitts out, there were some pretty dumb throws in the 4th quarter. Whatever, it's all good.
   75. Edmundo got dem ol' Kozma blues again mama Posted: November 07, 2020 at 07:18 PM (#5987771)
Nittany Pussycats hold MD to ~70 yards in the second half but give up a fumble for a TD and 2 ints and lose 35-19.

Why would go for 2 down 35-13? Maybe it was a botched snap.

It’s hard to believe in the Lancaster-York-Harrisburg area, with maybe 1.5 M people, I can’t get the psu game on the radio.
   76. Brian C Posted: November 07, 2020 at 07:19 PM (#5987772)
Another serious question: how good is Florida's defense, for real? Last week, looked great against Mizzou. This week, a rough start and then clamped down.

But holy hell were Georgia's quarterbacks awful in this game, probably as bad as I've seen from a top-10 team for a long time. Seemed to me as if they had a lot of really good opportunities and just missed wide open receivers deep on many occasions. The Gators got some pressure and forced some hurried throws, but I dunno.

So does a good QB make the Gators' defense look bad in this game? Seems possible but hard to say.
   77. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 07:22 PM (#5987773)
Certainly think the defense looked better the last two weeks than it did in the first three. On the other hand, Alabama’s still putting up 50 on these guys in the SECCG (as bad as UGA’s quarterbacks were, their receivers dropped a handful of potential big plays, and Devonta Smith isn’t going to be so helpful).
   78. Brian White Posted: November 07, 2020 at 07:25 PM (#5987775)
Yeah they need to be able to drop 60 on Alabama. Maybe they can?

Whatever, imma savor this one.
   79. CFBF's Results are Certified Posted: November 07, 2020 at 07:29 PM (#5987777)
Gators gonna rack those points up so fast you'll need Steve Kornacki to add them all up, yo.

Well, except when it decides to start dropping the ball in the lap of the opposition on the regular.
   83. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: November 07, 2020 at 09:59 PM (#5987789)
The ball literally rolled. You'll scarcely see a replay decision worse than that.

Ball don't lie.
   85. Meatwad Posted: November 07, 2020 at 10:29 PM (#5987793)
Whats more annoying on the following drive that should have been pi on the ball thrown to the endzone on third down. But yeah that wasnt a catch on that replay so the lack of points is a bit of karma.
   86. Meatwad Posted: November 07, 2020 at 10:40 PM (#5987795)

   95. Howie Menckel Posted: November 07, 2020 at 11:50 PM (#5987807)
with about 2 minutes left, Clemson is up 7 and it's 3rd down and ND has 2 timeouts left because Clemson had just committed a hold on a give-up/run clock play.

so they throw (!) a screen pass side-to-side and while the WR admittedly is dumb to go out of bounds, the entire flow of the play is sending him in that direction. so ND saves both timeouts and only needs to 91 yards in under 2 minutes to tie it.

and they do. and then Irish win in OT.
