Assuming backing a dump truck full of money to Lincoln Riley's house wasn't an option (seems to be what LSU is doing), Napier seems like a really solid choice.
Most bad-ass personal foul penalty in the history of Florida football.

I will admit - I knew that a play was dead when someone loses their helmet, but I didn't know it was a personal foul to keep going. That seems like a ridiculous rule.
If (when?) Michigan loses this game, that conversion by OSU will haunt them.

I'm not sure that Riley isn't a better fit for LSU anyway.
Will be hilarious if LSU misses out on Riley and has to settle for Bill O'Brien. Seems like that's the nightmare scenario circulating among LSU fans and I'm definitely rooting for it.

I'm extremely happy for Pierce that he got a chance to convert the TD after all. Feel like Mullen would have given it to Davis just out of principle.
So what does the math say down 35-26 with 5 minutes left? Id rather go for 2 so I know if I need 1 or 2 scores, instead of going for 1 and having it hang on a 2 point conversation in the last minute.

The math says you need 9 points. The rest is just game-theory circle-jerking.
No one tell Jordan Travis that short scrambles aren't very helpful right now.

At this point - and I know that I'm saying this under duress - but I'd be happy for the Gators to hire RGIII as their coach just so I don't have to listen to him as a broadcaster anymore.
Griffin with the surprisingly astute and accurate analysis of the incomplete pass there.

Biggest-best game of Aidan Hutchinson's life. He was born and raised in Michigan, three sacks today, set the school single season record, they finally win.
But also the Michigan O line was the boss today. As Russlan says, Michigan ran all day.

The studio guy has a point - this game might never end.

Auburn's offense looking completely lost without Nix until the middle of the second quarter, when a 29-yard jump ball and a screen to the perimeter break through. 7-0, as Alabama's offense continues to regress.
And Jameson Williams got popped for targeting while covering the punt that preceded the drive.

Finley's imploding. An interception to set up Alabama's field goal, another interception undone by a roughing call, then a ball thrown nowhere near a receiver that was almost picked again.
Auburn only has 141 yards of offense. Pretty lucky to have a lead the whole game in the first place, though to be fair, they played extremely well considering the expectation coming in. Have to think Alabama is pretty heavily favored now, though.
edit: it's about 65-70% for Alabama at the moment.
I don't know that it matters. If Alabama beats Georgia they'll almost certainly be ranked over Cincinnati, and if they lose they almost certainly won't (unless Cincinnati also loses, which makes it moot).

What are the odds of Auburn making a 2-point conversion against Alabama today? If it's 1 in 3 or more they should have gone for it.
I think it should be mandatory that the second team to score a TD should have to go for two in OT. Would shorten these games, make them more exciting, and put a lot more strategy into the coin toss just for good measure.
At any rate, playing for the tie in OT when you're heavy underdogs is shameful cowardice and Auburn deserved to lose.

If OK St. beats OU twice and Baylor, are they in the playoff? 538 certainly seems to think so, no matter what else happens.
We have no way of knowing. Pokes are behind Georgia barring a bus crash and Michigan if it wins. Behind Alabama if it beats Georgia. I would bet money they jump Notre Dame. But, while I wouldn't put it past the committee to drop Cincinnati, it's not something we know will happen with certainty.
Chryst showing his colors again, lined up to punt on 4th and 1, down 10 with four minutes to go. UW had a false start to make it 4th and 6 and they ended up going for it.

well, that's two of us.
announcers hate the idea, possibly because they want the game to seem to be in the balance for as long as possible. missing the 2-pointer and being down 35-26 is liable to send fickle fans game-shopping on other channels.
Oklahoma State imploding since being up 24-17 with the ball.

Imploding today is fine as long as they win next weekend. Basically I dont care who wins today as long as they lose the conference title game.

The rule of bedlam is: OSU never wins when it means something to them. If OU wins tonight, they’ll win next week. And I’d guess that puts them in the playoff. I’m not sure OSU gets in even if they win the conference with one loss. Names count in this silly system.

Osu would make it if they won tonight and next week, ND doesnt have a conference title it can win.
It absolutely drives me crazy when teams go for two to try taking a six-point lead with more than like a minute left. What are the chances this game comes down to Oklahoma missing an extra point? Almost nil. Being up five rather than four is a large advantage -- you give up a touchdown with more than a few seconds left, and Oklahoma is going for two and likely giving you the ball at 39-38 with a chance to win with a field goal. Up four, a touchdown puts you behind 40-37 99% of the time.
Well that was exciting. More exciting than it needed to be probably.

in unrelated news (it actually is), the most widely-offered point spread in this game that I saw was Ok St -4.
so not taking the free extra point in what winds up as a 37-33 win........
take it as a sign that the players and coaches still - even in this new era - really don't give a crap about "the spread," which strikes me as a good thing.

Well, it was definitely more exciting than it should have been but it’s very nice to finally win one of those when it mattered for us. Or maybe that’s just my feeling in a lopsided rivalry. We beat OU in 2011 to win the conference.
There is a chance that’s the last Bedlam game played in Stillwater for a while so happy to win for that reason, too.
Basically happy right now.

Fair, Meatwad. We all root for our teams.
My guess is #5, at least, is going to have a really good argument to be in.
Assuming Michigan beats Iowa next week (which is not guaranteed, Iowa has only 2-losses and Michigan may have en emotional letdown), they are probably a #2 or #3 seed, right?

Yeah I would say winning the big 10 gets them the 2 seed. I can see them leaving cinci at 4 no matter what happens so they have to face Georgia first.
Multiple reporters are now saying it's Napier to UF. Just waiting for the tweet from the football program with the lone helmet sitting on the grass, followed by a hastily photoshopped headshot of Napier in a Gator polo shirt.
Frankly, I would never be surprised by any non-geriatric coach going to USC. California has heaps of talent, and the closest programs of comparable stature are 1,200 miles away in Austin and Norman, so you basically get your pick of it. There's no question in my mind it's the best gig.

Happy with the Napier hire. In fact, I'm way happier about the Napier hire than I was with the Mullen hire, which I remembered being deeply skeptical about. So I looked it up and I said at the time - and I quote - "This is awful news as far as I'm concerned."
(BTW I'm pretty sure that was a different Brian C that said things in that thread like "I'm not hugely worried that he'll completely implode like McElwain ended up doing" and "I wonder if they're not going to look stupid for not giving Norvell a harder look." But then it was definitely me who returned to tell Stiggles how dumb he was to say that you don't need to be a good recruiter if you're in Florida.)

Also, in non-Gator news, did anyone else notice that BYU practically won the Pac-12 this year? 5-0!
As for Mullen...I mean, in a vacuum he's a perfectly defensible hire. But he's not regarded as a particularly dynamic recruiter, and I continue to believe that Florida's biggest problem is a lack of talent. I don't think he'll be a failure. But I worry he'll end up putting Florida on the same path McElwain seemed to be on before he imploded this year: a series of solid, respectable 9 and 10-win seasons without ever really threatening Alabama or the other elite.

EDIT: Or, Hassan Hawkins for the touchdown.
OSU just let them score after another big run.
Michigan just bullyballed OSU today. OSU pass offense was amazing but their defense did not stop the run at all.
But also the Michigan O line was the boss today. As Russlan says, Michigan ran all day.
And Jameson Williams got popped for targeting while covering the punt that preceded the drive.
Nah, he was hit as he threw the ball.

edit: oh whoops I guess they play Baylor if they beat OU today. But same question.
Especially when you have such a good play; the tight end throw back.

If Williams had thrown the ball away on third down instead of taking a loss, he probably gets the first down.
