Texas might want to employ a spy.

Hurts keeping Texas in the game.
   103. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 01:04 PM (#5889718)
That last INT by Hurts was unforgivable. I think he should be barred from Heisman consideration just for that play alone.

The OU defense really came to play today, though. OU really ought to be up at least two touchdowns by now.

Sakerlina putting up a fight. We'll see if it lasts longer than Tennessee.

Doesn't the NFL have a rule that you can't call timeouts back to back?

This question brought you to by Watching Oklahoma Call Three Straight Timeouts To Ice a Kicker.
   106. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 01:36 PM (#5889725)
Multiple consecutive timeouts really make me cranky. I really wish the NCAA would pass a rule outlawing them.
   107. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 01:36 PM (#5889726)
Who then drilled the kick straight through anyway.

Gamecocks leading 17-10 in the third, but Hilinski just got hit in the knee, so in comes the third-string quarterback.

Public service announcement. People should attend the RRS. One of the few much hyped events that meets and exceeds expectations.

Gamecocks leading 17-10 in the third, but Hilinski just got hit in the knee, so in comes the third-string quarterback.

It would be the peak Muschamp to win this game today and then lose out.
   111. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 02:11 PM (#5889741)
I think Tom Herman needs to stop thinking that Ehrlinger's ground game is going to get them a win today.
   112. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 02:30 PM (#5889749)
With Georgia driving, a botched snap on the first play of the fourth quarter gives the ball back.

But the Gamecocks are quickly running out of players.
   113. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 02:38 PM (#5889756)
Hurts *this close* to another horrible pick in the end zone.
   114. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 02:41 PM (#5889758)
OU outgaining UT in yards per play by about 7.5-4.1 ... the only reason UT is even in this game is because OU had a few boneheaded plays in UT's end.
   115. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 02:43 PM (#5889759)
Fromm picked again!
   116. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 02:44 PM (#5889760)
The term "game manager" is now basically a punchline, and I don't think it's fair to describe Jake Fromm that way, but I do see a lot of Alex Smith with the Chiefs in Fromm. Fromm's been impeccable when everything goes right - when one of the best offensive lines in football gives him plenty of time, when the five-star skill position players surrounding him thrive. But is he a guy who can succeed when things go wrong and plays break down?
   117. AuntBea odeurs de parfum de distance sociale Posted: October 12, 2019 at 02:49 PM (#5889762)
South Carolina should have been running the full clock from the start of this drive.
   118. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:10 PM (#5889763)
Illinois is now down 28-25 to Michigan after trailing 28-0.
   119. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:12 PM (#5889765)
South Carolina better be going for this.
   120. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:13 PM (#5889766)
South Carolina with 4th-and-3 from the UGA 40 and 0:49 left. Broadcasters talking about what a "tough decision" it is. But I don't see an argument for not going for it, right?

...and instead they try a FG with a kicker plainly out of range and the attempt is comically off. Don't ever change, Will.
   121. AuntBea odeurs de parfum de distance sociale Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:13 PM (#5889767)
As big underdogs definitely agree.
   122. AuntBea odeurs de parfum de distance sociale Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:13 PM (#5889768)
FG?
   123. AuntBea odeurs de parfum de distance sociale Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:14 PM (#5889769)
That has to be the worst decision of all.
   124. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:14 PM (#5889770)
####### stupid. You were less likely to pick up 4th-and-3 than make a 58-yard kick? Really?
   125. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:15 PM (#5889771)
Muschamp managed to make a decision that was both way too conservative and way too reckless. Impressive.
   126. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:21 PM (#5889773)
Some truly impeccable endgame performances here from both sides.
   127. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:21 PM (#5889774)
Meanwhile, UGA actually has a kicker who can make a long FG and they're farting around anyway. Anyone want to win this game?
   128. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:22 PM (#5889775)
Texas cannot tackle at all.
   129. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:23 PM (#5889776)
That was worst camera shot of a fga in history. Even espn wasn't thinking fga.
   130. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:24 PM (#5889777)
Sums up Muschamp's call perfectly.
   131. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:25 PM (#5889778)
This feels like a game Georgia wins in the first OT.

Or ... not?

Wooo!
   134. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:28 PM (#5889781)
ESPN guys bring up Auburn's Kick Six as a potential rationalization for Smart's call. Which is believable, but I really think that one play has had an out-sized impact on how coaches make long FG calls. You can't run in terror of a field goal return for a touchdown.
   135. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:28 PM (#5889782)

Especially when you have a likely future pro as your kicker!

Have the guts to James Brown this thing.
   141. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:36 PM (#5889790)
What just happened with that timeout.
   142. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:37 PM (#5889791)
What kind of horseshit game management is that from both sides?
   143. AuntBea odeurs de parfum de distance sociale Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:37 PM (#5889792)
hehe what a joke. South Carolina really should go for it though.
   144. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:38 PM (#5889793)
You know, the Gator Crew on this thread has occasionally complained about Dan Mullen this year, but boy howdy, this is the kind of game that really makes you appreciate what you have.
   145. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:38 PM (#5889794)
How does the UGA defender not realize he was lined up a full yard offsides on that play?
   146. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:40 PM (#5889795)
You know, the Gator Crew on this thread has occasionally complained about Dan Mullen this year, but boy howdy, this is the kind of game that really makes you appreciate what you have.

No doubt. My only real complaint with Mullen, though, is his insistence on running the QB as if he always bets the over on number of QB runs.
   147. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:44 PM (#5889798)
Haha. See you next week, Will.
   148. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:44 PM (#5889799)
So...wow.
   149. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:45 PM (#5889800)
Fully deserved win. Feels like Georgia only ever had the chance to tie because of the injuries to South Carolina's offense.
   150. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:47 PM (#5889801)
Clemson broke out the halfback option on its first series and eventually scored on a fourth-down shovel pass.

This game actually has me worried for Clemson, because its offense has been fitful, and FSU's defense has gotten a lot better since Jim Leavitt arrived to totally not coach, because as an analyst that wouldn't be allowed.
   151. Cowboy Popup Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:51 PM (#5889803)
Thank you, South Carolina. It was getting a little tiring watching the teams at the top win constantly.
   152. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 03:57 PM (#5889804)
Texas A&M with a 14-play drive to open the game. Looks like Jimbo Fisher has made the decision to ride Mond's legs.
   153. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 04:19 PM (#5889809)
You can't beat Alabama if you can't keep slants and screens from becoming long touchdowns.

At 21-0 early in the second quarter, I write "Guess the North Carolina game was a wakeup call" in my notebook.

Day game in Tempe.

Twice ASU has had punt returners shield their eyes from the sun, only for the gesture to be interpreted by the officials as a fair-catch signal.
   156. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 04:54 PM (#5889824)
I'm starting to think - and hear me out, because this might sound crazy at first - but I'm starting to think that A&M might not be able to keep up with Alabama.

And while I'm on the subject, what's with the media punditry all deciding at once to say in unison that Ohio State "might be the most complete team in the country?" I mean, Ohio State looks great, no question. But what's really going on here is that everybody is just bored with Alabama, right?
   157. Gold Star - just Gold Star Posted: October 12, 2019 at 05:02 PM (#5889829)
Jayden Daniels looks *really* good. Couldn't be more impressed.

Here looks like a good place to sum up ATL's week in sports: UGA loses in OT to a mediocre South Carolina team, the Braves lose the NLDS after being a handful of outs from advancing, the Falcons get waxed by Houston, Georgia Tech gets clobbered by Duke, the Thrashers are still MIA, and worst of all - the Hawks lose both of their preseason games. Zoinks.

Sadly, the only joy in Seminole-land is watching 75m dollar man Jimbo flop at Texas A&M.

you misspelled "bad"
   164. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 07:30 PM (#5889911)
Baylor was backed up to its own one with ~75 seconds left, worked its way to the Texas Tech five, then had a drop in the end zone and will settle for a tying field goal.
   165. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 07:36 PM (#5889913)
I can't decide whether Baylor's cartoon-bear helmets are sorta awesome or embarrassingly hideous. I think maybe they'd be the former if it wasn't Baylor.
   166. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 07:46 PM (#5889915)
Those helmets are great. It's a logo that should absolutely be brought back permanently. Oregon State should bring back the cartoon Beaver, too. Let the Orioles be at the vanguard of a movement.

Can we get out of this broadcast without hearing "gumbo" another 20 times?
   168. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: October 12, 2019 at 08:24 PM (#5889922)
That's one way of not relying on your kicker.
   169. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 08:27 PM (#5889923)
So I like Pitts, but so far he has a drop and a false start out of 4 Gator plays.
   170. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 08:33 PM (#5889925)
I guess all game we'll get to play "Change of Pace, Or Trask's Knee Is Hurt?" every time Jones comes in. On the bright side, LSU gets to play along with the viewers at home on that one.
   171. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 08:35 PM (#5889926)
Orgeron could win five straight national championships and I don't think I could take him seriously.
   172. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 08:39 PM (#5889929)
Beautiful answer drive. I can dig it.
   173. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 08:40 PM (#5889930)
If Trask hurts his leg again, I selflessly volunteer Brian's ligaments as replacement parts.
   174. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 08:42 PM (#5889931)
That's not gonna do him much good, I'm afraid.
   175. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 08:43 PM (#5889933)
That's OK. We have another Brian.
   176. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 08:47 PM (#5889935)
Why is literally every snap bad
   177. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 08:50 PM (#5889936)
1. Go for it, Mullen.

2. Don't run Trask up the middle.

1. Go for it, Mullen.

Co-sign. Although I could probably accept an actual QB sneak.
   179. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 08:57 PM (#5889941)
Jesus Christ. If a ball gets thrown into double coverage, a defender really ought to completely disable the receiver in order to get a PI call. I can't stand seeing offenses bailed out because of some stray hand-checking.
   180. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 09:00 PM (#5889943)
Dean trying to cover Jefferson is going to be a problem all night, I suspect.

I mean, Henderson can't cover everybody, but that was pretty ugly for Trey.
   181. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 09:06 PM (#5889946)
Alright Pitts is out of my doghouse now.

ETA: Never mind.

   183. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 09:15 PM (#5889950)
Just run a sneak! Why line up in the shotgun when you only need a foot?
   184. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 09:18 PM (#5889952)
Holy hell, that play unfolded exactly like I was afraid it would but it worked anyway.
   185. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 09:20 PM (#5889953)
"What a play by Emory Jones" is what Herbstreit said, almost completely ignoring that Perine was exclusively responsible for the good outcome.
   186. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 09:38 PM (#5889956)
Mullen's been calling a pretty *chef's kiss emoji* game, between the focus on Pitts, the effective QB switching and timing that final drive so well that LSU won't get the ball back.
   187. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 09:40 PM (#5889957)
What a fun half. This game so far is like an ad for college football.
   188. Pasta-diving Jeter (jmac66) Posted: October 12, 2019 at 09:44 PM (#5889961)
USC receiver--TD pass right in his hands--you gotta catch that
   189. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 09:44 PM (#5889962)
Mullen's been calling a pretty *chef's kiss emoji* game, between the focus on Pitts, the effective QB switching and timing that final drive so well that LSU won't get the ball back.

Very true. I nitpick at the play calls, but for the record, and so that no one gets the wrong idea - I love, love, love that Mullen is not afraid to go out on the road in a hostile environment and call an aggressive game with his backup and 3rd-string QBs. And, even more importantly, that the players themselves are well-coached enough to justify the aggressiveness.

UF's commercials have really declined since this genuinely awesome spot that aired...ten damn years ago? Ugh.
   191. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 10:06 PM (#5889972)
The best UF commercial wasn't even a UF commercial - it was that Keith Jackson Gatorade spot.

But among real UF commercials, I also liked the "Go Gators" one.

Van Jefferson, making tough catches.

That's one of those hits that's not Unnecessary Roughness, but it definitely feels unnecessarily rough.

Gators tackled amazingly well last weekend against Auburn, but not so much tonight.
   194. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 10:29 PM (#5889988)
That was one consequential (and correct) holding penalty.
   195. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 10:34 PM (#5889994)
Both Zuniga and Greenard being out of the game seems hard.
   196. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 10:34 PM (#5889996)
LSU's too good to really "stop," but you could at least, like, stand in their way for a while.
   197. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 10:37 PM (#5889998)
See, this is what annoys me about Mullen. Why bring in Jones here to run off-tackle twice? What about that seemed like a good idea?
   198. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 10:44 PM (#5890002)
This feels like a decisive drive. If LSU can push the lead out to two scores, it becomes hard to imagine Florida stopping them twice in a row and ever getting in position to tie the game.
   199. CFBF's Overflowing Pathos Posted: October 12, 2019 at 10:57 PM (#5890005)
Trask has been an oddly effective option runner.
   200. Brian C Posted: October 12, 2019 at 11:02 PM (#5890009)
Oh man. Trask has been a hero tonight but that was bad.
