OT - NBA Bubble Thread

I estimate only 10-12 Primates care about the NBA, and hopefully none of them get caught leaving the bubble for strip club wings.

Porzingis' second tech was consistent with the last decade plus of precedent: he entered a fray and shoved a guy in escalatory manner. It was weak, but defensible; personally, I hated it. The Malice At The Palace was over 15 years ago, and there was no realistic chance a fistfight was going to break out in that situation. It's the playoffs and emotions were running high. That's a good thing!

Given that his first tech was for protesting a lousy foul call, though, the sum of the two is pretty terrible.

This happens like 3 times a game with no whistle, though.

Porzingis got a tech because they were going to T up Morris and wanted a double technical.

I would have had a fully healthy Boston team as no worse than #2 in the East, which would have put them in the same championship bucket as the Raptors and a fully healthy Houston; now, ugh.

to be clear, i don't disagree with 301 ... i didn't want porzingis to get a t - but i immediately knew it was coming.
the foul call that the first tech was for was pretty bad (coincidentally, that was less than a minute after i started watching) but he did earn the t for that as well.
it's a bad situation for him but he brought both t's on himself.

The first tech was the egregious mistake in my mind. Javie's explanation was that he "threw a punch" in the direction of the referee. But that's not what happened! The ref who made the call was on the baseline and KP turned around and yelled "come on man" in the opposite direction. If the call was only a violation by the letter of the law, then it should actually fit the letter of the law.

The pick that ended up #6 in the draft and Damian Lillard was traded by the Nets with Mehmet Okur and Shawne Williams for Gerald Williams.

G. Williams played the rest of the season with the Nets then was traded again in the offseason.
Okur and S. Williams did not play for Portland.

What was the idea there?

Oh, I totally disagree with that characterization. Porzingis came into DEescalate the matter, and that type of one-armed back-off-my-guy nudge happens just about every single time two players start jawing. It was an awful call. Both techs were awful. Portzingis shouldn't have gotten either.

Also, something called a "Gary Clark" has 15 points against the Bucks, and Orlando is leading by 11 points? With two minutes left in the 3rd quarter?

The Magic are bad, full stop. Without Gordon they're terrible. This should be a walk in the park sweep for the Bucks.

I just put it on, so I'm not trying to impugn their effort or anything, maybe they're playing feistily! And Steve Clifford is from Maine and is therefore a prince among men. But they're not good, especially on offense, and this is embarrassing for the Bucks.

Lakers took 18 more shots and only 2 fewer free throws. +12 on offensive glass and +6 on turnovers.

It is hard to imagine Portland winning another game if the games go like that the rest of the series.

New video footage appears to show security guard inciting post-Finals altercation with Masai Ujiri
Raptors president was sued by officer over incident that transpired after team won NBA championship

New video footage appears to show Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri was shoved twice before pushing back against Alameda County sheriff's deputy Alan Strickland while trying to reach the court after the team won the NBA championship in June 2019.

The footage was first released by FOX KTVU 2 on Tuesday night and later confirmed by the CBC News.

The video shows Ujiri attempting to walk on to the court after the Raptors' 114-110 Game 6 win over the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.

Strickland uses his arm to stop Ujiri in an apparent effort to ensure he had security credentials. As Ujiri tries to walk by, Strickland shoves the 50-year-old before the two appear to exchange words. Strickland then shoves Ujiri again, at which point Ujiri retaliates by pushing Strickland back.

The initial narrative of the sheriff's office that Ujiri had initiated the contact and then punched Strickland in the face was never creditable. It is completely unsurprising that that story turns out to be entirely bullshit.

He saw $$$ and thought he could probably get a quick settlement. What an utter POS. Every single part of his story was wrong. Love this little detail from this story too:

According to his suit, Strickland has been “prevented from attending to his usual occupation” and believes that will be the case “for a period of time in the future.”

Strickland alleged he suffered such a “shock of injury to his nervous system” that he believes “will result in some permanent disability.”

In addition to the physical suffering, Strickland also said his “emotional well-being” also took a blow.

But his physical injuries are in serious question.

Ujiri's lawyers pointed out that on the night he went to the hospital, Strickland had no visible facial swelling as he had claimed in his reports to police, and they provided a picture of him showing no bruises.

The lawyers also highlighted exclusive video KTVU took in February, which showed him going out for lunch with his wife, carrying boxes and using a power saw in the spring outside his home.

he was an undersized shotblocker at uconn, so more of a tyrus thomas than a hasheem thabeet, and also not nearly as athletic as tyrus thomas.

My favorite part of the Masai Ujiri incident was this, from a week after Game 6:

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office showed The Globe and Mail still images Thursday of an altercation between Raptors president Masai Ujiri and a sheriff’s deputy to rebut witness accounts that the team executive did not strike an officer in the face after the Toronto team won the NBA championship in Oakland, Calif.

The sheriff’s office allowed a Globe and Mail reporter to view select arena security and body camera images of the altercation, when Mr. Ujiri attempted to enter the Oracle Arena court for the postgame trophy ceremony. But the office declined to allow The Globe to republish the images. It also declined to allow The Globe to view the full videos, saying it could interfere with the investigation into potential charges against Mr. Ujiri.

[We wanted] to show that a crime did occur, when people are saying that ... there was no strike to the face, when in fact there was,” said spokesperson Sergeant Ray Kelly. “We’ve done it in a way that can still let the investigation take place without contaminating the witness pool.”

(...)Alameda County Sheriff Greg Ahern has recommended Mr. Ujiri be charged with misdemeanour battery of an officer, punishable by up to 364 days in jail.

okay, my thoughts:

4th quarter: the reason the sixers didn't feed embiid the ball is because he was completely gassed.

2nd quarter: the sixers tried to get the ball to embiid, but they don't have a PG, or anyone who can dribble, or anyone who can pass, so it doesn't work out too good.

i continue to think the problem is tobias harris. he has the kind of versatile offensive skillset that should allow him to soak up as many possessions as is necessary, but it has never occurred to him that he can do that.

brett brown's antipathy to spacing: he's tried nothing and he's all out of ideas.

If the Sixers continue to his 70% of their shots and not turn it over, the Cs are in big trouble.
brad's angels would still find a way to win, i'm sure.

Oh, damn. That Tatum bank three.

Dude has taken like 9 shots and Embiid is exhausted already. Should be able to flail his way into like 15 more free throws, though.

I'm glad I don't root for a team that employs Embiid. He is perhaps the worst conditioned top 10 NBA type player.

you'd be pretty tired too if you had to carry al horford's ass up and down the floor.

embiid has to carry literally everyone else, on both ends of the floor, for the sixers to have any chance of winning, every single night.

yeah, he's ####### exhausted, but does any other sixer look like they've broken a sweat?

I liked that Jazz/Nuggets game quite a bit better than the first one.

(Not that I was able to watch it)

i would love to see the biometric data for the sixers during these games. i know embiid is getting up over 140 BPMs; is anyone else topping 120?

Sixers interior defense is just a rumor.

'why is embiid always exhausted'...as three celtics dangle from his arms while he's posting up

this team has no grit. no drive. no intensity.

...except for embiid.

They're only in this game because of Josh Richardson, not Embiid, so you might want to find some room to praise him.

firstly: the sixers are not in this game. they just got run down by something called a wannamakers.

secondly: yeah, richardson is fine. so is thybulle.
