OT - NBA thread (Playoffs through off-season)

I estimate only 10-12 Primates care about the NBA, and this one only cares about the NBA thread and the Cubs so I have no idea what the rest of the website cares about.

Let a team forfeit the two free throws (maybe offer them the ball back?) in situations like that then.

That makes even less sense.

If Toronto shits this series away they should evacuate the city

This is like Paul Pierce but without the poop

Heh.

Kawhi and Klay are basketball robots made by two A.I. companies with VERY different cultures

Haha

The amount of off ball contact Powell is getting away with on that box and one is criminal
   3505. KronicFatigue Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:06 PM (#5851723)
That makes even less sense.

Let's say Thompson is hit in the head and might have a concussion. With the current rule, you're asking him to go out there and take free throws (unless NBA has same concussion protocol as NFL, I have no idea). GSW should be given a chance to decline the free throws with the thinking being that the value of Thompson's potential return is greater than the chance of two points.

My latter hedge is that the team that's fouled shouldn't be punished too much in this situation. If a really shitty free throw shooter gets hurt, giving the team the ball back gives them a slight advantage over his two poor free throws, but the team is penalized by him not being in the game. Maybe force him to stay out of the game for x minutes so that teams wouldn't try and take advantage.
   3506. Davo Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:07 PM (#5851724)
What actually happened? I just turned on the game. Klay got fouled, was too injured to shoot his free throws, and thus is out the rest of the game? Or did he wind up shooting them anyway?

The Boogie Cousins Offense is a bad idea.

This stretch is likely to haunt the Raps ..

For one of the 100 best players in the world, Ibaka is amazingly disjointed.
   3510. Hombre Brotani Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:11 PM (#5851730)
No more Klay tonight.

Damn.
   3511. KronicFatigue Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:12 PM (#5851731)
Klay was walking back to lockerroom as they were cutting to commercial. The last thing JVG said was the rule about not being able to return. When we come back from commercial Klay's on the court, ready to shoot the FT's. Afterwards we see that people ran up to him and explained the rule and had him come back.

After he made the FT's, Boogie fouled someone so Klay could get off the court.
   3512. Tin Angel Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:12 PM (#5851732)
#3506- He looked badly hurt, came back out to shoot the free throws, then went back to the locker room. Now out for the game.
3513. Athletic Supporter is USDA certified lean Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:12 PM (#5851733)
Klay shot them, GS took a foul to get him off the court, and they just said he is out for the rest of the game anyway.

Cokes all around.

There's no way nothing popped if he went down in pain like that. I think he's done for the series for good this time.

If they lose, 100%
   3516. Davo Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:14 PM (#5851736)
Thanks guys.

What do they do to prevent these shenanigans at the very end of a game? Bad free throw shooter fouled with 2 seconds left--"ah ####, I'm injured, gotta have Steph Curry shoot for me. Damn shame I have to miss the rest of the game isn't it"
   3517. JJ1986 Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:14 PM (#5851737)
My rule would be to let the other team pick the substitute FT shooter from any of the active players.

My first thought was patellar tendon...something looked really off near his knee when he landed.
   3519. KronicFatigue Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:16 PM (#5851740)
NHL has stars of the game or something where the players skate back onto the ice, right? I know soccer's big on the players going to their fan's section and saluting them. If GSW lose, I'd like to see some way for the players (Klay included) to get a moment of appreciation from the fans (and vice versa). They are leaving everything on the court tonight.
   3520. PJ Martinez Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:18 PM (#5851742)

Veteran finish by Livingston in transition. GS role players really stepping up.
   3523. PJ Martinez Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:23 PM (#5851748)
Draymond Green has 18 rebounds and 12 assists so far tonight. The last player to match or exceed each of those totals in a Finals game was Bill Russell with 21 rebounds and 13 assists on Apr. 25, 1969.
   3524. KronicFatigue Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:23 PM (#5851749)

I’m kinda surprised there are basketball fans who didn’t know the rule about “you can’t re-enter a game if you’re too injured to shoot a free throw.”

There are famous clips of guys like Tracy McGrady and Kobe Bryant getting injured on drives to the hoop, and then shooting their free throws left-handed so they wouldn’t have to leave the game.
   3533. PJ Martinez Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:31 PM (#5851761)
I thought DeMarcus was the offender on that tie-up that ended in an Ibaka foul, FWIW.

What a crazy shot by Lowry. And a big three by Green. Fun game.

45 right now from Dray + Iggy + Boogie
Steph is falling short in his part of the bargain

When Curry was shooting his second free throw with 15 or so seconds left, I was thinking, does it make sense to miss it on purpose? Obviously given what happened right after it worked out but especially with a precision player like Curry, maybe you run your best ft-oreb play?
   3559. KronicFatigue Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:46 PM (#5851791)
why you throwing a lob like that? throw a dribbler on the ground. as soon as it touches a hand down low it's over.

Dumb way to end such an otherwise exciting game, though.

If KD leaves and this does end up being the end of the Warriors run, Kawhi should be known as the dynasty killer. First the Heatles, now (possibly) the Dubs...

They must be looking to see if the foul was before the ball was thrown.

Well that's just the thing though - either the ref whistled for contact before the ball was touched or after. No need for Zapruder analysis, it shouldn't even need to be reviewed in the first place.
3574. Moses Taylor loves a good maim Posted: June 13, 2019 at 11:51 PM (#5851806)

It's really hard to win a single championship, much less three in a row or 4 out of 5. I feel like this game at least would have been different if Klay hadn't gotten hurt -- that really was a bridge too far. The Warriors ended the game with Steph, Draymond and Iguodala as their three best reasonably healthy players, with an about to retire Livingston and Quinn Cook as the next two by minutes played. That core probably wouldn't even make the playoffs most years.

Probably less likely, but if he were smart he would leave.

Toronto is full of guys who are a half step away from being shitty. Marc Gasol, Lowry, Van Vleet, Ibaka--all of those guys could just be bad next year.
