Ozzie Guillén challenges Jon Heyman to a charity boxing match: “Tired of this liar talking about me.”

Following Guillén’s criticism of La Russa and his uncalled for shot at Renteria, Jon Heyman of The New York Post and MLB Network tweeted that the NBC Sports Chicago analyst might be trying to get his old job back. Guillén managed the White Sox from 2004-2011, winning a World Series during his second season with the club. The comment by Heyman seemed to have irked Guillén, because he responded on Twitter by challenging the baseball insider to a charity boxing match.

According to Guillén, it wasn’t just about the allegation that he wants La Russa’s job. The former manager feels Heyman has been overly critical of him throughout the years. But as they went back and forth on Twitter, Guillén also called into Chicago’s 670 The Score to rant about Heyman and reaffirm his desire to engage in the ring.

“When somebody calls me up and says, ‘I talk about Tony La Russa because I want to have a manager’s job,’ it’s wrong,” Guillen told 670 The Score hosts Dan Bernstein, Laurence Holmes and Leila Rahimi. “I’m not. I have a great job. I’m having fun with the job. I will be the last person to talk about Tony La Russa in the wrong way. Tony is my mentor. Tony is my hero. Tony is the guy I look toward every day of my life when I was managing.”

If Ozzie punches Jon Heyman, does Scott Boras feel the impact?

Given the location of Heyman’s head, I’d think so.

Primey for #2 ... best supporting primey for #1.

I'm a bit ... intrigued? bemused? ... by these sort of "macho-adjacent" taunts. "I bet I can beat you in a half-hearted, fully padded up, blessedly short boxing match because I do some boxing workouts at the gym ... and hopefully you don't" is weak sauce. It's more genuinely "masculine" than "my dad can beat up your dad" but it's not Will Smith climbing up on stage to slap Chris Rock. It's "Water pistols at dawn Sir!" territory.

Not that Will Smith's behavior was excusable, it's certainly worse than this silly posturing. It's just ... is Ozzie fooled by his own silly posturing? Does he think this is "manly" or "kinda manly" or just "pathetically manly but more manly than doing nothing?"

Caveat: for all I know Heyman and Ozzie are friends or work out at the same gym or something and this is just a friendly challenge to raise money. Doesn't really sound that way though.

never thought I'd see "Heyman" "work out" and "gym" in the same sentence. well done !

This is exactly what the White Sox need, the soothing tones of Ozzie Guillen driving the bus. It could only do one thing, which is to make the players miss TLR

Meh. I'd pay attention if Ozzie had challenged Heyman to a pistol duel at ten paces.
