I don’t know what kind of PTBNL that KC got but the return for Moreland seems way better than for rosenthal which surprises me. There are a lot more Morelands to be bad than rosenthals

Boston fans have to be happy with the return for Moreland, right? Moreland has been very good this year, and was generally a helpful part of the team the last few years, including on a World Series winner. But he is the definition of a player that has nothing to do with Red Sox’ future. He will be 35 shortly, plays first base, is hitting well above his established career norms, and will not be around the next time the team is any good.

Some fan feedback locally was disappointed that the return from San Diego did not include any pitching prospects, but c’mon: these two guys might be in the top 10 of the Boston farm system immediately - you’re not going to do much better than for Mitch Moreland.

Yeah it looks like a good get for the Sox. I’m a bit bummed from a rooting standpoint. I like him a lot. Moreland is a good community guy (he’s been the Jimmy Fund guy this year) and pretty popular but yeah, it’s a no-brained move.

For those not paying attention (that would be me), Hosmer is hitting 284/337/545, a 140 OPS+; and Myers is hitting 304/380/609, 169 OPS+. However DH Tommy Pham is carrying a 71 OPS+ and Profar and his 75 OPS+ is listed as the starting LF. Of course all of that is just a month and Pham can probably be counted on to bounce back towards normal ... I assume he goes to LF and Moreland to DH.

Rosenthals are a dime a dozen. He was freely available in the 2019 offseason, twice during the 2019 season and again this offseason. He could be back to being a good reliever or it could be a solid 13 innings.

Yep, that's where I am. This season is a lost cause, next season might be as well, pitching across the board is unspeakably awful...Mitch Moreland should be doing this for a team contending for something.

FWIW, MLB.com has already slotted these two prospects as (if I recall) #16 (Rosario) and #20 (Potts) in the Red Sox farm system.

Boy, looking at their updated top 30...it's a very weak farm system right now. After being crazy-good for many years over the past 10-15 years, and four WS titles over that period, it is tough to get too cranky...but this rebuild is going to take a little while, methinks...

His big World Series home run in 2018 was an absolute smash. He was pinch-hitting and Madson served up a meatball with the first pitch - maybe he figured Mitch would take one.

FWIW Moreland has kind of become a slugger. I mean he's not Adam Dunn or anything but he's hitting more home runs now than he did (and a corresponding drop in doubles).

NL teams requiring a seat warmer to DH is something I don't think I'll ever truly get used to... I kind of feel like I should have paid more attention to the Mariners in the years they didn't have Nelson Cruz.
