Padres’ Luis Campusano charged with felony marijuana possession in Georgia

Padres catcher Luis Campusano was arrested Saturday in Georgia and charged with felony marijuana possession

According to the police report, 79 grams of marijuana was discovered in Campusano’s car when he was pulled over shortly after 5 a.m. in Grovetown, Ga., near his hometown of Augusta.

Georgia law states possession of more than one ounce (28.35 grams) of marijuana is a felony and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. (In California, possession of 79 grams would be considered a misdemeanor and be punishable by up to six months in jail and/or a $500 fine.)

Not quite 3 ounces. Felony seems like a reach.

I hope he gets some counseling. And some more weed.

In other states, he'd be an entrepreneur. #### racist marijuana laws.

Another reason Georgia sucks.

3 oz is too small for dealing and too large for personal use, unless you are a chimney. Luis tore up high A ball, so he has a bright future. Man, Georgia sucks hard. I haven't smoked in about 25 years, but this story is making me never want to set foot there.

Well, he will once he gets out in time for the 2031 season...

Picking up 3 oz of weed.

3 oz is too small for dealing and too large for personal use, unless you are a chimney.

3 oz is what you get when its illegal so you can give an oz to two friends.

As for me, we must legalize medical cannabis in all States!

Pete Rose served time for tax evasion.

Orlando Cepeda also served time for drug possession.

Denny McLain? (White collar crime)
Jerry Koosman? (tax evasion)
Vida Blue? (short stint for drugs)

To be clear I was thinking of someone who did time then came out to play (which admittedly is a small list).

Probably Willie Wilson and Vida Blue, then -- part of the 1980s drug prosecutions along with a few other guys.

Vida Blue went to prison during his career (1983) and came back to play.

According to this he and his teammates were "the first active players in the history of Major League Baseball to go to jail." Not sure about that. Didn't someone kill his wife?

edit: Coca-Cola to you

Gates Brown did some time for breaking and entering before his career.

LaMar Hoyt served time and was brought in for spring training following his release, but his career was effectively over.

Jim Rivera went to jail for life for attempted rape, played baseball for the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary, attracted the attention of local teams, and when he got out on parole after five years, went on to have a 10 year MLB career.

Another obscenity by one of many racist and out of touch states. I guess the South will rise again. Be proud Georgians.

I can't speak for him, but I can tell you what I would be doing out at 5 AM when I was 22. It's the age for sex and drugs. Because I was a whiteboy in California, nobody ever bothered me about it, though.

He might have been in someone else's bed at midnight...and then gone home.

That's what I meant. I don't think I ever once found someone new at 5 AM, nor would I want to.

It is... for them.

I'm still young enough that 20 years seems like a long time, but, man, not as long as it used to. (And the 10 years that Campusano is possibly facing would seem a lot longer than any 20 year stretch I've ever lived.)
